They left out Anderson Silva def. Rich Franklin via KO (Rhinoplasty)

you forgot any fight Houston Alexander has ever been in

Fedor def. Sylvia :34 Rd1 (sodomy)

What about Matt Hughes winning the title via knockout even though he had already passed out due to a triangle.

Kevin Burns's TKO over Rumble Johnson via eye pokes?

Win Mestre Hulk DQ (Crawling out of the Ring) WVC 3 - World Vale Tudo Championship 3 1/19/1997 1 2:21

You forgot an obvious joke done over and over in the comments about a one-sided victory by my favorite fighter.

This article would have been better with a bit more detail on each of the non-obvious results. Abandonment?! What the heck move is that?

What the hell was Enson Inoue saying post fight???? Are those subtitles what he was actually saying. It's like some sort of f-cked up Shakespeare speech.... strange.

I'd like to submit the following for an honorable mention:

Tom Erikson def Matt Skelton via submission (Front Strangle Choke).

Don't squat with your spurs on,

The Whipper

I am sure that Inoue really said all of that stupid bullshit that was translated. These idiotic stoppages with no real explanation only happens in the foreign countries.

Wanderlei Silva def Rampage Jackson - KO (Murder, 1st Degree, use of deadly weapon(Knees))

Wanderlei Silva def Sakaruba - KO (Facial Reconstruction via Foot)

Wanderlei Silva def Keith Jardine - TKO (Rape Choke w/ assault)

I had my sternum cracked (not broken) once. You wanna talk pain...that shit hurt. I couldn't imagine having it broken.

Enson Inoue quoting Agamemnon was creepy and moving:

"See, they hold them up,
The entrails upon which their father fed!"

i don't know if thats what he was saying but its from an old greek drama, the house of atreus by aeschylus deals with agenemnon and some casandra chick the retribution of crime and the inheritence of evil, if i could read i'd tell you more

You only got two of the strange results from World Vale Tudo Championship 3 (Gurgel over Smith by "fan interference" and Rizzo over Heard by "punishment). I would argue that if you were only going to pick two, you picked the wrong two. I mean honestly, are "fan interference" and "punishment" odder than Maestre Hulk def. Zane Frazier by KO (Frazier Hit Head on Floor Outside the Ring) and Mark Kerr def. Maestre Hulk by DQ (Crawling Out of the Ring?)

I sure don't think so.

Matt Hamill def. Tim Boetsch Submission (Rape Choke)

Ok seriously on that note I am done!

how about ivan salaverrys bodylock win?

haha rape choke do you guys remember when rogans dumb ass actually said that while announcing a fight?

Can we talk about sketchy opponents? Like the time that Glay Guida fought Clay Guidiola????

what's strange about cb dolloway defeating taylor by peruvian necktie? is it the name of the submission?

What happened to Yvel after he assaulted the ref?

Great comment. Too bad this didnt happen in theses days...where everyone and their mother is a fan. That, IMO, was the worst ref job, EVA!!!!!

Hughes wins the UFC WW title because he got sub'd via triangle. Classic. Hughes, nor the ref was clueless. Horrible outcome. That would earn a Sub of the night BONUS, for sure if that would of happened a few years later.

There's a top ten list......The WORST ref decision calls, etc etc,.....This one would top that one for sure.

Very true. Some of these are not very clear. Should be a little explanation for some.....

Like WTF is a stoppage or sub via "punishment"

The Nick Serra one is the best. Buttscoot LOL! "SERRAS DON'T TAP BITCH!, BUT WE MIGHT BUTTSCOOT....."

"CB Dollaway def. Jesse Taylor via Submission (Peruvian Necktie)"

Uh, why is this strange?

its just the name, it actually means slitting ones throat or there is an even worse meaning that involves killing someone, just kind of an odd yet cool name for a submission.

Sherdog needs a list of subs and dq's so we can all just vote on the ones that sound the strangest. However, submission due to frustration just makes me laugh. Same with the submission by retirement. And submission via punishment, like all fighters don't go in with the intent of punishing the other for stepping into the same fight.

Yeah but it's not a strange result, it's the name of the submission.

The Renzo Gracie fight they mention where the outcome was
"fans rioted".Renzo was actually stabbed in the ring during the riot at Pentagon Combat.

@Anonymous
"Yeah but it's not a strange result, it's the name of the submission."

What submission are you reffering to? Because I tried looking for punishment as a submission and found that mixedmartialarts.com also has Jose Landi as winning against Lourival da Silva via submission (punishment). However, sherdog has it as submission via punches. So if you're reffering to "punishment" then no it's not a specific submission apparently.

As for frustration, I doubt that's a submission name either, I bet someone go frustrated and gave up.

The only real submissions I see up there are Peruvian Necktie, and smothering. Even though you can get smothered in a number of ways.

It is a little ghetto and low level but check out youtube " a questionable call thumbs up tap out" My fighter gives the thumbs up and the ref stops it. I stand up and yell wtf! eventually called no contest.

carlos newton,is that you?!youre the only person on the planet stupid enough to think that

Has anyone ever lost via Irony?

I would call Cro-cop's loss to Gonzaga via near decapitating headkick an ironic loss

For reference, retirement doesn't mean the termination of a career. It means that the fighter himself opted to withdraw from the fight voluntarily. It's common boxing terminology.

In the case of Goes-Ximu, the referee attempted to reposition the fighters, during which Goes cranked a kimura from the bottom on Ximu and forced him to tap. Goes got up and celebrated, only for the referee to insist the fight wasn't over, and the submission didn't count. Rather than continue to fight, Goes took off his gloves and left the ring, retiring from the bout.

What's so strange about a BODYLOCK. Did you see the fight?
