Kimbo Slice drops Bo Cantrell “Like Names at a Hollywood Party”
Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson is an intimidating son-of-a-bitch. Still, there’s no excuse for what happened Saturday night at EliteXC: Renegade. Kimbo’s “opponent,” Bo Cantrell — a late replacement for the injured Mike Bourke — came into the fight completely psyched out, and after a couple of glancing shots from Kimbo, he dropped to the mat and started tapping for mercy. You have to watch the video to see just how pussified it was:
You know how soldiers can get court-martialed for cowardice? There should be an equivalent in mixed martial arts. I don’t want to see Cantrell ever fight again, and he should be required to repay everybody who ordered Showtime specifically to see Kimbo fight but only got 19 seconds worth. For shame, Bo.
In Renegade’s lightweight championship match, former pro boxer KJ Noons grabbed a shocking TKO victory over the heavily favored Nick Diaz, shrugging off multiple takedown attempts and landing a sharp knee and some well-placed punches to open up cuts over both of Diaz’s eyes. The doctor stopped the fight after the first round, causing Diaz to storm out of the cage and give the finger to everyone in the audience.
As for the rest of the evening’s fights, five ended via rear-naked choke in the first round, and only one match made it to round 2:

for his size, 6′2 240lbs i think kimbo is unstoppable. i saw the gannon fight and that guy is about 6′6 280 and hes retired from the military … and he didnt kick his ass at all it was a long fight that ended in a submission. it would be nice to see someone give kimbo a run for his money in the same weight category.

There’s a ton of dispute that went on about that fight; Kimbo was under the impression that it was a bareknuckle boxing match, while Gannon was using MMA. Basically Kimbo was trying to box and Gannon was going for leg strikes as well. If they fought again after Kimbo’s (brief) MMA training, he’d drop Gannon

Definitely a good rib shot, but Cantrell should have stayed in there and at least tried, I know Kimbo did choke out Mercer but that was a pure boxer. For that Gannon fight you have to remember that he was a lot heavier and if you did watch it you can tell had absolutely no ground game, he is now 235 and I watched him train on the ground, no jujitsu black belt but strong and powerful.

I don’t believe Bo wanted to tap. It looks like he took a dive for the sake of Kimbos rep at EliteXC. It’s kind of disappointing, but what can you do? No one will think about it twice, if there is no hard evidence, and no one will care because Kimbo is so popular on the internet. All I can say is this, tapping after zero effective punches is kind of weird for someone to do on such a hyped up fight. I still don’t understand why they would sign someone like Kimbo, it only adds on to the street fighter style thug image that people have of MMA already. It’s a sport, not a street fight.

last time i checked Brock Lesnar’s Colligiate Record (bigten) was 106 wins to 5 losses. Wrestlers with his strength do well in this sport, Matt Hueghs for example. So before you begin bashing Brock for his employment opportunities with WWE, stop and think about what it means to be a MMA fighter. Anyone who has the heart to train and broaden their skills can make it in the fightgame.

Neither of these fights were fixed, stop the excuses. Bo was scared to death, he was puking 5 minutes before he walked out. Have you ever been hit in the gut by a guy as big as Kimbo? When the wind is knocked out of you that hard and then a guy who is known for hurting people badly elbows you and starts hittin you (while you still can’t breathe) you might tap. Bo should’ve had tried harder or not even showed up. 5 of his last fights were over in less then 1 minute.

With training Kimbo could be a mean mother but this fight can’t showcase any skill. Put him in against some proven heavy weights in time to prove himself. Most of the heavy weights would drop him, hard. Arlovski, Cro Cop, Jackson, Coutre, and especially Fedor. Until he beats an established fighter, don’t go touting Kimbo as the world’s biggest bad ass. Kimbo has been babied every fight so far with opponents who dont belong in the world of MMA, I havnt seen anything overly impressive with Kimbo outside of the ridiculous amount of hype surrounding him, I really look forward to him fighting a legitimate fighter soon, hopefully he will fight in the ufc soon where fighters are not weened into icons but tested in every fight. With all of his hype and a head that must be enveloped by his ass, I think Kimbo will lose the first fight he has that isnt some cakewalk. Alot of people talk about how heavy his hands are, Im really failing to see anything special. Brock Lesnar has some heavy fucking hands, a couple punches to Frank Mirs’ face and it looked like he was beaten for days, on top of that they were not even standing punches, they were punches from full guard. Kimbo is gonna hit a brick wall in the form of a skilled opponent. I do give him some serious props though for being a entertaining street fighter and a bad ass, but honestly he isnt impressive when you put him next to the top notch fighters in the UFC or Pride.

Kimbo isnt anything special he can brawl and he isnt the best at that even, and he is just now picking up groundwork, you really think someone who just picked up groundwork can last a round in the cage or octagon or what have you with someone who is an actual fighter, Kimbo is the most overhyped fighter In the history of MMA, kimbo fan boys really need to watch some real fights before they his dick in there mouth
