John McCain: Waffler

McCain

John McCain in 1996: "[MMA is] a brutal and repugnant blood sport...that should not be allowed to take place anywhere in the U.S."

John McCain in 2007: "The sport has grown up. The rules have been adopted to give its athletes better protections and to ensure fairer competition."

Nice try, Senator, but no amount of pandering is going to pull us from the Kimbo Slice War Wagon to the Straight Talk Express.

Comments

While I have no dog in this race, I will say that McCain's comments are not waffling. It is merely a matter of fact that the original MMA fights started out as free-for-all tournament-style fights that had little to no rules.

Now, over time, they have become more regulated and tempered by adding rounds, rules, and weight classes. This has been a great improvement and has aided in bringing legitimacy to a great sport. The changes have taken MMA from backyard/alley brawling to respectable combat sporting.

Given the almost decade between the Senator's comments I don't think your characterization is fair.

McCaain is always hanging his mind. what do you expect from an old white republican who only cares about votes?

Have to agree with Nutria, but good luck slamming McCain in future endevours.
