Morning Beatdown: When Brock Met Min
Yeah, you’re probably sick of this one by now. But we thought we’d run it One! More! Time! as we enter the home stretch to Lesnar’s UFC debut tomorrow against Frank Mir. Lesnar’s opponent at K-1 Dynamite USA (6/2/07) was an overfed can whose most notable fights were losses against Bob Sapp and Don Frye. And what did we learn? Brock has no time for the customary pre-fight fist-bump. Yes, that’s ex-WWE superstar Bill Goldberg freaking the fuck out when his homeboy scores his first MMA win.

Lesnar broke the cardinal rule there, deliberately hitting after the other guy tapped out. Either way, he looks very unpolished, and not surprisingly did not impress. He was a perfect pro wrestler to me, but I guess his heart isn’t with pro wrestling, so all power to him. His NFL tryout didn’t workout, but I do hope his recent endeavor works out well for him.

Let’s get one thing clear here…you don’t stop when you feel the guy tap. You stop when the ref tells you too. Sometimes the ref doesn’t catch the tap out, so the fighter on the offensive lets up and the defensive fighter could take advantage. Not saying that would have happened here, just that it can. And has. Both Brock and Frank are athletes and I hope it’s a great fight.

I just felt like saying that both me ad my father have been watching the UFC since Day 1. You NEW fans have no idea what it was like back in the day with Tank Abbot and Don frye. It was a war every fight. Beck said it best you dont stop until the ref comes in. Its like that in any sport, you go until the whistle. MMA might be in the spotloght but it is fans like you that are going to kill the sport. Even the PPV shows have commercials now. Go rent a video from the early days where they had “superfights”, it was a single night tournament and the winner had to win 3 fights in one night and maybe then you cuntrags can comment on the state of the sport today.

Sure mate, you can try to be badass by doin bullshit like that, but if you were to win a fight after being a huge cock you’re not a respectable man or woman. If you win a fight after touching gloves, showing respect and letting them go when they tap at least three times even if the ref doesn’t see it right away then you’re very respectable. Even if the ref does not stop it, when you get up you should be good enough to be able to take a damaged opponent once again, or you just suck ass.

Who cares if Brock touched gloves or not. A lot of pro mma fighters dont. As far as him punching him while he is still tapping, thats the right thing to do because its the ruf who officaly stops the fight. Any experienced fan of the sport knows that if someone is tapping the fight keeps going until the ruf calls the fight, otherwise everone would tap out of the rufs vision to get the guy to loosen up his hold, or give up position, and clame that they were just moving their hand or somthing. Its different if you feel the guy go unconscious. If the guys out you tell the ruff and wait for him to stop the fight. You are only an asshole if you try to punish a defensless opponent.

He was a heavyweight champion wrestler at a junior college in Bismarck, ND, made a name for himself, then went to the University of Minnesota, one of the greatest wrestling schools in the country and was only a 4 time all american and NCAA Div. 1 heavyweight champion.

If you call this a “sport” than it would be customary to abide by some protocols, which is tapping gloves. Look at Fedor, he touches gloves, and stops when it is time, hugs the opponent….all that. It is called having some class. Yes, it’s a blood sport, but all people usually decide to behave in a decent manner no matter what competition it is.

He passed Min’s guard with no problem and it looked clean too. Brock was a collegiate wrestler with a record of 105-6. As far as i’m concerned wrestling is the best base for MMA. This was Brock’s first fight. Do you think they would put him in with the champ on his first fight? WWE or not, he was a collegiate champion wrestler, which means he has a good grappling game. It would seem to me that if Brock has the ability to learn quickly (striking, jiu jitsu, etc), he could become an excellent MMA fighter. Brock is apparently a competitor, which is why he left the WWE; that was showmanship, not competition. I’m not taking away anything from Mir. It appears he’s gotten his edge back after his motorcycle accident, so I think he is a pretty dangerous guy. Again, I hope it’s a great fight, regardless who wins.

This is directed to all those people who thought brute strength can beat great technique(mostly wrestlers). The match between Broc Lesnar and Frank Mir was an example of why wrestlers can’t hang with jiu-jitsu experts. Just because you pin a man on his back doesn’t mean the match is over in MMA(unlike wrestling). Jiu-jitsu experts are very comfortable on their back. Try to use just your upper body strength to win doesn’t work either. Frank Mir showed what happens when a big stupid oaf leaves his lower body opened. They get FUCKIN’ OWNED! I wanna see Kimbo vs any of the heavyweights in the UFC. Kimbo aint shit but a striker. That might get him far fighting backyard fights and fights against washed up boxers but that shit wouldn’t last in the ring with an experienced professional like Nogueira, Couture, Gonzaga, Silvia, or Cro Cop.
As for Brock fighting Frank Mir… Frank Mir is far from washed up. That guy is still young. He’s got a good amount of fights under his belt so his experience is good. Anyway, its funny how all you clowns sit there and bash Brock Lesnar for being is big as he is, claiming that he took steroids to get there. Lesnar finished his amateur career as a two-time NJCAA All-American, two-time NCAA All-American, two-time Big Ten Champion, and the 2000 NCAA heavyweight champion with a record of 106-5 overall in four years of college. He’s been a big guy all his life. I’m sure he couldn’t have made it through college taking steroids and not have gotten caught. Don’t hate cause your pathetic ass is to lazy to get into a gym.
