Video: Anderson Silva vs. Daiju Takase
Devoted fans of Anderson Silva know that his pro record is 21-4, with three of his losses coming by way of total horseshit — or at least justifiable means. Anybody could be excused for losing their pro debut, and the Spider lost his, by a decision against the very talented Luiz Azeredo at Meca World Vale Tudo 1 (5/27/00). More well-known are his losses to Ryo Chonan (due to a one-in-a-million flying scissor/heel hook) and Yushin Okami (due to a disqualification for an illegal upkick).
There's really only one true black mark on Silva's record — his submission loss to Daiju Takase at PRIDE 26 (6/8/03). At the time, Silva was a well-respected 9-1 up-and-comer who held wins over Hayato "Mach" Sakurai, Roan Carneiro, and Carlos Newton. His opponent was an outmatched 4-7-1 can who was being served up to give the promising Chute Boxe fighter another impressive win. But things didn't go according to the script, with Takase scoring an early takedown, working some GnP, nearly ending the fight with an armlock, then flipping into a triangle choke that forced Silva to tap on his feet.
Takase lost four of his next six fights and faded back into obscurity. Anderson Silva is currently the greatest fighter in the world.

"Pride FC, where UFC champions get spanked"?
Yeah, tell that to Wanderlei Silva and Dan Henderson.
Might as well tell Crocop too.
(I know Crocop never wore a belt, but he did win the 06 GP)
indestruktible Says:
the loss to Ryo Chonan is also a black mark I would say. The flying scissors heel hook is neither horseshit or "justifiable means". He got caught, pure and simple. Doesn't matter that it was flashy or rarely done he still got caught.
WalksInTheDarkness Says:
Have to agre with indestruktible just because it's a one in a million thing doesn't mean that you have an excuse. There is no reason for not practicing to defend against it. It was a mistake and Anderson Silva lost. To me, that's MMA. You make a mistake. You lose.
Cung Le's left nut Says:
Cung Le would destroy Silva, not doubt. Seems Silva has a weak spot for small asian men.
ok Says:
His losses in pride are fair and legitimate. We know that because he came back a lot stronger. Those losses must have been a wake-up call and made him pull together the motivation to be where he is today
sheeb Says:
The greatest fighter in the world is Fedor. His record is better and his line of opponents is better. Simple as that. Just because Silva is more flashy doesn't make him better. When Fedor destroys Tim Silva people will remember that.
Jon Says:
Every man loses... but not every man truly LIVES...
think about that...
shaun Says:
Fedor "was" the greatest fighter, I think that Anderson has now surpassed him and it will stay that way until someone steps up to challenge Fedor. Tim Silvia is not a challenge but a joke, his time is over, if it ever started. Anderson became the greatest when he systematically destroyed Hendo. I would like to see Fedor and Anderson fight. I know they are different weight classes but technically so are Fedor and Hong Man Choi and you see how that went. But still pound for pound, Anderson is better.

how can you say such a thing fedor as never lost a match excep for that match that the reff stop for a stupid cut and GSP is better than Anderson equal standup but better on the ground
Who Gives a Fuck Says:
Everyone talks about how anderson silva had some bad loses in the start of his career if he were to rematch any of those guys he would absolutely unquestionably dominate them in fact they wouldnt even accept a rematch if they want to live
Anonymous Says:
anderson is a great fighter but people need to wake up 185 isnt exactly the most competative division and he was given this title (by dana) after his victory over frankin
and his increadible clinch defense (sarcasm) hendo was out of action for 2years and his only fight before then was at the wrong freakin weight class.
Mark James Says:
