Trevor, clearly you have a more nuanced message than Matt Lindland. The recent voting history in this country would suggest that his approach, while not as well thought out as yours, might actually have a better chance of success. Which helps to explain why we’re so fucked right now.

I found Lindland’s message hackneyed and unoriginal. Not raising taxes seems to be his main solution. I think that is overly simplistic. We need smarter tax policy not just the same GOP talking points. We should tax things we don’t want: green house gas emissions or carbon or excessive real estate speculation and stop taxing the things we do want like wages. MOreover we clearly need to address the inequities in our tax system… like the corporate minimum tax. Is lindland saying he would oppose any tax increases to make sure corporations pay their fair share?

I think his platform should be “Vote for me or I’ll kick the living shit out of you”. One good thing about him being in office is the fact that he could give spur of the moment power point presentations on his forehead, no need for a screen.

Matt is a great guy. A real no nonsense, tell it like it is, kind of guy. I can speak to it because I know him. He is sharp and I think he would do great! Hope you win Matt!

Lindland’s website is pretty poorly written. It doesn’t help that he spends his entire biography page talking about his exploits in the Octagon and it sounds like it was written by a child.

I don’t see how this could end up bad. If he wins, he’ll be known as the MMA fighter who ran for and won a public office. If he loses, he’ll be known as the MMA fighter who ran for public office. It’s good all around. MMA is gonna get some well-deserved attention, probably not nationally, but locally to the west coast at least. Everybody on the West Coast pays attention to politics, otherwise what would they have to gossip about at the water-cooler? I like this Lindland guy.. if he can do it for Oregon, why can’t Forrest Griffin do it for Ohio, I’d rather have Forrest than the ni… African American fellow that’s in office currently.
