‘Power Rankings’ Update of DOOM!

Over the last couple weeks, Matt Serra came crashing back down to Earth, Rich Franklin got his balls back, Shinya Aoki smothered JZ, and Denis Kang went out like a bitch. So if you haven’t swung by our Power Rankings section lately, please do so. In particular, the lightweight, middleweight, and pound-for-pound lists were freshly updated today. And you may be surprised at how high I ranked Travis Wiuff in the heavyweight division for going all the way at YAMMA 1…
Anyway, give ‘em a look and let us know if you see things differently.

First comment I’d like to make on them thar rankings is, I THINK SOMEBODY’S A GZ CALVANCANTE FAN(G)BOY! He didn’t look impressive AT ALL in his loss to Aoki. Not to mention the fact that BOTH Roger Huerta AND Kenny Florian are FAAARRRR more skilled than Either Aoki OR Calvancante. In fact, that entire Lightweight ranking you have needs some HEAVY revising, (aside from the #1 spot you have, which is obvious to anyone who even knows what the letters UFC actually represent).
Actually.. after looking and re-looking, I think the only rankings that you DON’T need to revise are the pound-for-pound rankings. Poor show ol’ boy.

I just don’t understand the Franklin bashing sometimes. The guy has gone the past 4 years with his only losses coming from possibly the best MMA fighter on record who’s fighting style is tailor made to wreck guys like Franklin. He came back from both beatdowns with dominate performances against his next opponents. He never lost his edge: he’s just out-gunned in a fight against the Spider.
His only other loss in 8 years of fighting is to Machida (and one NC), but that doesn’t need much explanation.

I have to agree with C-Bus Allstar. Kenny Florian is above Shinya Aoki and Roger Huerta deserves props. I think Florian is the only real threat to BJ Penn in teh UFC lightweight division. Hate to say it but Florian will beat Huerta and probably so with minimal problems. Anyways, Florian and Huerta should be 4 and 5 on this list.

IMHO, you missed the boat in the 170 lbs division. Where the Bollocks is The Irish Hand Grenade? How many fight of the night wins in a row does a guy need to even show up? The lower half is a who’s who of mediocre talent!

Anderson Silva is not as tough as everybody thinks he is. I can think of three people that could easily defeat him off the top of my head:
1. The alien from Predator
2. an M-1 Abrahms tank, and
3. the creature from Cloverfield.
