Canada Is Officially the UFC’s Bitch

Breaking into the U.K. is still a battle, and they’re just starting to dip their toes south of the border, but the UFC’s foray into Canada can now be considered a big, fat, stinking success. Dave Meltzer estimates that UFC 83 brought in as many as 650,000 pay-per-view buys — which would tie it for the third best-selling PPV event in UFC history — on the strength of a record number of Canadian buyers (estimated at about 100,000).
Expect the UFC to return to the Great White North on a recurring basis; and expect those events to be The Traveling Georges St. Pierre Roadshow. You thought Marcus Davis was typecast as “the guy who always fights in the U.K.”? Ho baby. GSP is a true star in Montreal now, and the UFC will be giving the new fans what they want. Now if they can only find a couple of other Canadian fighters to give a marketing push to, because right now they’re stuck with that one guy, and the other one, and what’s-his-face, and the dude with the crazy hair.
Somewhat related: Travis Lutter thinks Matt Serra should be worried about his job security after UFC 83. In an interview with FightHype, he said:
“I would guess Serra will have a similar fate as me if he loses the Matt Hughes fight…I mean, he was in the same locker room with me, Kalib and I think there were five other fighters that shared a locker room with him that night. Usually, the main event guys and the guy that has the belt get the nice locker room and stuff like that and here he is with one of the most crowded locker rooms. It’s really strange. They wanted GSP to get that title back so bad and he is marketable, but so is Serra. Serra is as funny as they come, but I’m sure there is a rhyme and a reason in their eyes behind doing everything; it’s just unfortunate.”

GSP took him lightly the first time, and the second time he dominated him just like HUGHES will. Matt Serra is a B- fighter at best and will not be remembered once Hughes takes him out as well.

Serra gained some respect at the end of the fight. His whiny, bitchy voice and attitude was humbled, and he seemed like a decent guy.

Being a Christian brother, just as Hughes is, we are supposed to follow Christ as our example. He was perfect, blameless (sinless), and holy.We will never be perfect, but the bible tells us to strive for that, and when we fall short to embrace Gods grace. I never thought I’d see the day when someone actually defends Matt Hughes when he hands out bibles and asks the rhetorical question of “Who does that remind you of?” in reference to Jesus Christ. Matt Hughes doesn’t strive to make better fighters on the show as Jesus strove to make those around him better people. He strives to use them as stepping stones so he can get more face time on TV and keep himself relevant.
Yea, real Christian-like values right there. Preach brother. He’s not a role-model. If anything he’s the antithesis of it. Don’t get me wrong: I’d do the same thing, but then again I can admit I’m an asshole and constantly looking out for #1.
For all the Serra bashing out there, at least he gives two shits about the fighters he coached (even when he wasn’t an official coach), unlike Hughes.

I am in need of Gods grace just as much as anyone. Fortunalty Jesus came and died for all our sins. To attack me for calling someone a tool is beyond me, but to each their own. I apoligize for my actions. I am man enough to admit that, but I will not apoligize for standing up for my brother in Christ. For the ones claiming to be Christian you should stand up too, I was never saying that Matt Hughes was perfect, and I know before he was a Christian he had made some poor decisions and thought of himself highly (like most of us), but fact of the matter is he has eatin some Humble pie recently as I know the Lord is at work in his heart.
I do see the man as a role model, just as I see Rich Franklin as one too. To compete in a sport is not a sin, regardless if its MMA or Football. When you go around street fighting or trying to hurt people then it becomes sinful.
So attack me and Christians all you want, Jesus tought that the world would hate us anyways because we were not of it, but in it.

If you’d asked a random dude on the street who GSP was, you’d have to get lucky to find one…hell when i was searching for bars that showed the UFC 83, I had a shit load of answers to the likes of: “what’s a GSP?”, “sure we’ll show the UFC 83, it’s on TVA right?(crappy tv channel)”, “what’s the UFC, isnt that that animal protection organisation?” or even the occasional “don’t you think that 9am is a bit early for a rhum and coke?”
Now he’s actually a real star, people who didnt know about the sport knows about it because of him.

When Matt Hughes asked the question “Who does this remind you of?” He had them read the book of Esther….and he asked them to figure out which character he related to the most….then after they tried to guess he looked into the camera, smiled, and said I am the Queen….He was the queen….all hail Queen Matt Hughes!!

MAn, serra is a great fighter, that is why he is in the ufc. Hes got heavy hands, reasonably good wrestling and an amazing ground game, especially if hes on top (i will say he hasnt submitted anyone off his back for a while).
GSP is just a beast though, and stylewise he is a serious threat to almost any fighter in the world. first up he has great boxing, very smooth excellent kicks and very quick and athletic all around. If that does not give almost anyone problems initially (it wouldnt give anderson silva problems for example) he can take down absolutely anyone. so the only kind of fighter that could be a threat to GSP would be a fighter who has better striking then gsp, superior reach, and is either very dangerous off his back or is extremely squirmy and difficult to hold down once they are on the ground. I honestly think a guy like demian maia if he had better striking could be the answer to gsp if he move up in weight. Marcello garcia could probably do it if he had a kickboxing background as well.
