Kawajiri, Uno, Alvarez Advance at DREAM.3; Mayhem Clowns His Way to Victory

(Jason Miller keeps ‘em laughing against Katsuyori Shibata.)
DREAM.3 went down today in Saitama, Japan, with two upsets pulled off in the lightweight grand prix, while Nick Diaz, Jason Miller, and Melvin Manhoef all scored first-round TKOs. The night’s biggest surprise was the defeat of top-ten lightweight Mitsuhiro Ishida at the hands of Caol Uno — who had received a bye into the GP’s quarterfinals — by way of rear-naked choke early in the second round. Eddie Alvarez also took an unexpected win, grinding down Joachim Hansen over 15 minutes en route to a unanimous decision. The card’s other marquee names didn’t disappoint, with K-1 vet Melvin Manhoef demolishing Dae Won Kim, and Nick Diaz getting the better of Katsuya Inoue in a slugfest. But Jason Miller did his best to steal the show, entering the ring in Zubaz-esque tights for his fight against the completely outmatched Katsuyori Shibata, and repeatedly posing for the camera. Full results are below, and videos are after the jump.

Funny how Diaz only shows good sportsmanship when he wins. He has no problem shaking hands and showing respect when he doesnt get his ass kicked. I look forward to the next time Diaz gets owned and embarrassed so he can show off his little kid who’s mom didnt buy him an ice cream cone tantrums

did anyone notice that manhoef kneed won straight in the back of the head? isnt that a bit faux pas?
May 11th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
@: I thought exactly the same thing. It looked illegal to me. But I saw that happen a few times last night. It seems that the officials were willing to let some of it go..
May 11th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
asian refs have bad eyesight from that fat that hangs over their eyes, they can’t see illegal shit like that, gawh didn’t you jokers ever watch pride? Asian refs suck more dick then mazagatti
May 11th, 2008 at 4:05 pm

i think it was a good no call by the ref on the knees. for one thing he wasnt really aiming for the back of his head so it was unintentional if anything. and even if it did hit the back of the head thats not the reason the knee ended the fight. it was just how powerful it was, that could have landed anywhere on the guys head and he still wouldve been too fucked up to keep going. sometimes you gotta just let em fight.
bas calling the fight always makes it so much more entertaining

Looked like he was aiming for the back of the head to me cuz thats all that their was too aim for. Its not like he was trying to swing his knee around to the front of his head or something. I think two consecutive knees to the back of the head qualifies as intentional. It’s a dirty move and the guy needs to realize that it’s competition and not a street fight. Good fight up to that point though.

As a long time supporter of knees to the face, I found Dream 3 to be quite satisfying.
Melvin’s knee to the back of the head looked illegal from our angle but that’s the kinda shitty reffing Dream provides.
Miller/Shibata went on about 30 seconds (give or take I really don’t wanna watch it again and count) after it would have been stopped in the UFC. Why isn’t Bas a ref?

if you filter out the environment of that photo, take into account the tiger pants, you could, with 99% confidence, say that you are looking at a gay porn photograph

Katsuya Inoue any relation to Enson?
And was it him or Nick making all those Bruce Lee noises?
May 12th, 2008 at 5:40 am
Bas isn’t a ref because he wants to make money…
May 12th, 2008 at 7:24 am
Watch the Manhoef knees again; the first, knockout shot was almost directly to the temple. The second, lighter one was to the back of the head but he was already out. And I’m Asian; maybe you roundeyes need to squint a bit…
