You forgot that after round 2 Kimbo was so tired and out of it 3 corner men literally lifted him back to his corner. All of this happend in the space of 20-30 sec's way longer than any round stopage i've ever seen.

I'd like to point out a few things.

1) It seems Kimbo got favorable treatment. other fights were stopped very early. In fact, Kimbo's fight was stopped early, but only when it favored Kimbo. You could argue either way that it should have called in the second, but you can also argue that it shouldn't have been called in the thrid -at least not that quickly. Both were borderline decisions and both went Kimbo's way. I'm just saying, it's a coincidence.

2) Bas is the man

3) Just to play devil's advocate, I think it is important to note that Thompson didnt seem to be doing much damage with those elbows. Yes, he landed about 20 unanswered blows and that's reason enough to call a fight. But considering that Kimbo didnt have a blemish on him, even after all those elbows, speaks pretty loudly that those blows were more for show than anything else.

I'd like to steer away from the hate in an attempt to actually sound semi-logical in my argument.

One, should Elite XC have Kimbo headlining? No. But if he brings in major brand recognition to the show, he does deserve a shot to fight. Most MMA purists realize that he's a rookie. He does have very powerful striking, but a marginal ground game thus far. He's had 3 (4) pro fights now guys...come on, how is he supposed to learn top level ground technique in 4 fights? There are guys who have been in MMA for years that have no idea what they are doing outside of a guard or a few submission attempts. (I'm sure they do know, but they dont ever use it, thats my point)

Kimbo displayed some pretty surprising moves for a guy his size and experience in round 1, and had he more experience he would have stopped the fight in round two like Bas said. Nobody is jumping on Gina Carano for not doing shit on the ground and losing a gogoplata after having it locked in. In fact she didn't do ANYTHING on the ground and gassed out royally, but she isn't Kimbo, so she gets a bye. I would argue that she's as hyped as being the savior of womens mma as kimbo is.

Okay two. Kimbo DOES put asses in seats. You have to go with your money bet, and he he does bring a lot of interest in. Maybe Shaw is hand picking opponents. I think we all know he is. Still, even if he gets more popular, they also probably realize that he will draw in a crowd of internet experts such as some of the posters here who want to see him lose. It's win-win for a while.

I don't believe he should have lost for the main purpose that Thompson didnt do anything at all to hurt kimbo in that ground exchange. By the rules, maybe. If you look at the overall aspect though, Thompson really never hurt him in the entire fight. Thompson, however, was in honest trouble at least 3-5 times. If Kimbo had better cardio, this conversation wouldnt even be happening as he probably would have KO'ed Thompson mid second round instead of falling into a weak takedown attempt. Ah well, Ive rambled long enough.

Kimbo inexperienced??? he has felt the adrenaline dump that other fighters feel lets not forget all of the unsanctioned "backyard fights". You can't say that Kimbo has never experienced that anyone who has been in a street fight that is not a one sided pummeling has felt the same dump. I think that is a lame ass cop out. Tito would smoke Kimbo just because he has fought at that level. I think my point is proven by the track record (overall not the few) of Pride fighters when they have stepped into the octagon. Lets face it the UFC is the best brand out there, there is no better set of skilled fighters on the planet. I say place Kimbo in the ring with one of the TUF heavyweights he'll get demolished - see Kimbo vs Gannon

I'd bet an equal amount of dollars to an equal amount of donuts that Tito Ortiz would fucking demolish Kimbo.

i just want to say i understand that kimbo shouldn't headline an event, but people act like the ufc guys fight top ranked opponents in their first fights. You usually dont hear about someone until their tenth fight. give kimbo six more fights and he will be a whole lot better. He landed the only good shots in the fight against thompson. Yes he was tired but no he was not hurt. I'll bet dollars to donuts he would kill tito ortiz. that guy is a punk and hasn't won a fight in years. The UFC is king but they are all about the pay per view. id watch kimbo for free any day over paying fifty dollars for pampered tv stars aka the UFC.

jeffs an idiot. Says:

You are an idiot sir. It’s not like Bas makes killers from day one, or neccesarily at all. Can you imagine the number of fighters Bas trains that just aren’t good enough? That’s just the way it is. Just because a promoter latches on to a fighter than isn’t all theyre hyped up to be that doesnt make Bas a sellout.

Who did the most damage in that fight? Kimbo. Did Thompson do any damage while on top of Kimbo? No. Thumbs up cause he wasn't hurt, but horrible conditioning so he couldn't get up. There is no way Thompson did more damage than Kimbo in that fight. And in a fight thats the only thing that matters. I'm baffled that everyone thinks Kimbo should have lost.

i just watched the vid...i clearly saw Kimbo pull a shank from his beard and stab Thompson in his BAD ear. now last i knew pulling a shank from one's illegally sported beard is a no no according to MMA rules....no hate...jussayin.
