WEC 34 Salaries Released

Urijah Faber WEC MMA

The California State Athletic Commission has released the official salary figures for WEC: Faber vs. Pulver, proving that just because you’re one of the best fighters in the world, not to mention the marketing face of your organization, doesn’t mean you’ll be paid like a star. The numbers are below; each winning fighter’s salary represents a doubling of their base salary (i.e., Faber earned $22,000 to show, and $22,000 to win). The figures don’t include sponsorship money, undisclosed “locker room” bonuses (which we really hope Yoshiro Maeda received), or deductions for insurance, licenses, and taxes.

Urijah Faber ($44,000) def. Jens Pulver ($33,000)
Miguel Torres ($28,000) def. Yoshiro Maeda ($6,000)
Mark Munoz ($16,000) def. Chuck Grigsby ($3,000)
Rob McCullough ($32,000) def. Kenneth Alexander ($3,000)
Donald Cerrone ($10,000) def. Danny Castillo ($3000)
Mike Brown ($10,000) def. Jeff Curran ($10,000)
Will Ribeiro ($6,000) def. Chase Beebe ($7,000)
Tim McKenzie ($12,000) def. Jeremy Lang ($4,000)
Alex Serdyukov ($6,000) def. Luis Sapo ($3,000)
Jose Aldo ($6,000) def. Alexandre Franca Nogueira ($8,000)
Dominic Cruz ($6,000) def. Charlie Valencia ($7,000)
Total: $260,000

Anyway, it’s just another reason why Faber should move up in weight and head to the UFC, especially now that he’s reached an Anderson Silva-level of domination in his league’s weight class. At this point in his career, the only challenges left are a superfight with Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto — who, by the way, will be fighting a complete nobody at DREAM.5 — and a run at lightweight. How much more can the WEC really do for him?

Kid is versing a dude who trains with Faber. Not Faber by any stretch of the imagination but at least he isn’t an 0-0 Karate guy or Hong Man Choi.

  2. Armbreaker Says:

I agree that Urijah really has no remaining serious challengers in the 145 lb. class. I would like to see him move up to 155 lbs. and compete in the UFC. A match-up between Urijah and B.J. Penn would have me scrambling to get the pay-per-view broadcast. Maybe Urijah could fight Joe “Daddy” Stevenson before taking on Penn.

  3. norremo Says:

Torres did an awesome job in the fight. Even at 135 hes a scary dude and I wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark alley.

He shows NO emotion! Kicked in the head? Nothing Punched in the face? Nothing

  4. B-rad Says:

If Faber wanted to move up, he would have already..atleast I think so. Seems to me that he likes being the big fish in a small pond.

  5. slapjaw ackrite Says:

I think I read somewhere that Urijah has been putting on weight to stay at featherweight. Him v Penn would be awesome though.

  6. godzillad Says:

Faber need to take out Leonard Garcia and Savant young before being Tyson’s penis holster again.

  7. . Says:

slapjaw - I read that article too. It more or less says that he puts on weight to get to 145, so he’s thinking about dropping to 135. Which would be awesome. He’d be the biggest 135 ever. He did say that he would go to 155 for some superfights, but that he wouldn’t stay there.

  8. chunk Says:

the reason theyre still not paid a whole lot in the wec is (correct me if im wrong ) but does not the ufc own wec? and yeah penn, faber would be good but i think bj would blow him up

  9. Pete Says:

Rob Mcullough got 32k for that fight? He should donate 30,000 to charity.

  10. NigNug Says:

Ok I like fighting, I also love training boxing. But you really have to LOVE LOVE LOVE fighting to get paid like that and keep doing it on a regular basis. The work you have to throw in is crazy.

  11. BlueWave Says:

I have been watching MMA since it really began to get popular, and there are NO GUARANTEES except for the california Kids beat the crap out of someone. Urijah, you are a freak. I will be at your Mike Brown blood letting in September at the Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida.

For us fans who are spending $150 a ticket, try and make it last a few minutes…Brown is not Pulver. Nowhere close!
