Everyone in the room was pissed when the ref stopped the werdum - vera fight, But after i watched the replay i noticed something, vera was covering his face with his forearms with his eyes closed and was on his side in the fetal position when it got stopped, he was mounted for more then 20 secs before the stoppage and if you think that ref should have stopped the kimbo/thompson fight in the 2nd round WHICH I REALLY THINK HE SHOULD HAVE. How do you not see this should have been stopped. I picked Vera to win the fight. I wanted him to win the fight. But you can't "fetal up" close your eyes and take punches for very long and not get the fight stopped. maybe he should have tried to grab werdum's wrists or bridged one time. He did neither. I know the round was almot over and i would have much rather seen the fight go to a 2nd round but you can't blame the ref to much for Vera not doing anything to improve his position or stop the punches he just laid there with his eyes closed and assumed he would make it to the 2nd round. I hope he learned from that loss and next time BRIDGE, GRAB HIS WRISTS, or in that case witht he clock running out GIVE YOUR BACK. I know giving up your back is bad but with 20 secs left i bet Vera could defend a rear naked for that long at least ps again the only reason why i say giving his back up in that case was good is because it takes longer then 20 secs to get choked out if you defend it properly I know i am a few days or even a week late with this comment but i haven’t been around.

Hughes is simply a case of a fighter who has gotten too old and the speed and reaction time are not there anymore, at least like they used to be. Can he beat up and comers, sure. But the elite of the division will be too fast and explosive, as he used to be against others. It is for the same reason Roy Jones Jr. became human overnight. Once his speed and reactions were slowed, he became very beatable. He tried to pass into mount and side mount but Marcus did a good job of getting him back into his guard. Swick had a good fight and dominted a guy who had an 6 fight win streak in the UFC with 4 of those fights being stopped in the 1st round. Marcus is a beast who benches over 400 lbs and has heavy hands. You're giving Swick a new nickname and judging him off of two fights at 170 against good opponents- real smart Look at the damage each guy did to each other.
