Is Joe Duarte “The Next Anderson Silva”?
[Dana White] said he’s found “the next Anderson Silva,” a lightweight who is competing in Season 8 of TUF at 155 pounds, though he declined to release the fighter’s name because it might spoil the season. “I was going off when I saw this guy,” White said. “He’s 24 and he’s destroying people. It’s sick how bad ass he is. I’m getting goose bumps talking to you about him.”
Early message-board speculation is pointing to Joe “Hybrid” Duarte, a 24-year-old San Diego-based fighter who claims on his website that he’s been selected for Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir. Duarte is 3-0 in pro MMA, 9-0 in pro boxing, and 19-1 in Muay Thai. According to his bio page, he walks around at 185lb-190lb (remember, he’s a lightweight) and is “really, really, really RIDICULOUSLY strong,” thanks to his Chamorro ethnic background. And yes, he does destroy people. His last two MMA matches are after the jump:

If he’s going to drop down repeatedly for multiple fights on TUF then he’ll likely take to a new diet and walk at 170ish on the show.

Therefore, he is NOT cutting from 185-195. He is cutting from 170ish. Unless you want to consider 2 months from fight day, he walks at 185-95, but he is NOT 30 - 40 lbs over the week of the fight and then LOSES ITS. NO WAY!!!

The man is good I tell you, but I wish promoters, presidents…whomever, would stop hyping up fighters to be something that they have not yet earned. Not saying my Che’lu (brother) don’t have the skills, cause dude can scrap! But to say things like, “the next Anderson Silva” puts way too much pressure on the fighter and sets our expectations as fans unreasonably high. I got the chance to see Joe at a local smoker promotion called Unleashed (bearing the same name of his gym). While he was impressive physically, it seemed like his gym is just hyping him up and giving him an easy road to the big leagues. I wasn’t too impressed with the show as a whole… but I guess good luck Joe.

u only cut water weight before a fight for weigh-ins… meaning fluid restriction, heavily sweating and there r techniques to get ur body to urinate more/more often, but there all base around losing water weight… however u should only stop drink fluids a day before the fight so there is a max on how much water weight u will cut there… when heavily sweating water weight off u will eventually hit a point where u will stop sweating and no longer lose water weight… and when excessive urinating, u will only pee so much…
so what im trying to say is, that there is a ceiling on how much water weight u can cut… so saying someone cut 30lbs a day before a and gain it all back the next day is on the verge of ridiculous, im not saying its impossible buts its almost there.

I don’t think it’s so much being haters as it is just part of the internet. That, and being compared to Silva makes people say silly things to magnify the comparison. Notice that most of the “hate” comments state that you only have 3 mma fights and that they weren’t that impressive. Point is you won though and maybe they weren’t impressive by some crazy E-LawlXC kind of standard, but you also only have 3 fights. They also fail to mention the fact that they haven’t seen any of your 21(?) Muay Thai fights, all of which could have been very satisfactory.
If there is anything to hate on, it’s those crazy caps you remote island people use.

Making the transition to MMA has been pretty good to me….if you were to watch Rampages first fight you would say that he sucked and so have eveyone else that starts out in this sport. Many people look past my Boxing and Muay Thai fights. For me, Im still getting comfortable in the cage as an MMA fighter. Let a few fights past and Ill be smashing people like I was when I was Boxing and Thai Boxing. Its very different for me. Every guys that I have fought in MMA has had more fights and been doing MMA longer than I have, so dont forget that. Ulfrano is a chubby Mexican but as a wrestler he is a very decorated state champ. I take nothing away from people willing to get in there and fight. Most people say they want but how many of those people will fight? Not many….it takes alot to fight today. This is dog eat dog world and most fans only give a shit when you win. They wonder why fighters like Matt hughes and Tim Sylvia are assholes. As a fighter I know youll smile in my face and talk shit about me as soon as I leave, but as long as you continue to watch and buy PPV….I will continue to fight. We(fighters) are not stupid….we know we have a shelf life here…we will make every dime we can and then roll out. So wether you tune in to watch me lose or win….keep tuning in because I know Im getting PAID!

Hey Joe Duarte-In order to have a shelf life you have to get on the shelf….you ain’t even on the shelf yet…you said in your all caps rant up there that all the people who watch fighting are dumbasses, well just to let you now I will not be watching any of your fights from this point on….unless your fighting BJ Penn cause i would love to see him kick your face in, but in order to do that you would have to actually get into the UFC and put a win streak together, and judging from those videos above you couldn’t beat even the low level Lightweights in the UFC….so here is some advice….Piss your pants on the show, maybe tear up the stairwell, bash in a Limo window, something like that…cause that will be your only chance to make an impact in the UFC!!

I knew Joe before UNLEASHED when he trained at SDFightClub. He was always cool, ready to help anyone. Ego? He didn’t show any big ego, no more than you need to be a fighter.
