UFC Puts "The Best Fighter On The Planet" Up Against Affliction

Here's the UFC's ad for their anti-Affliction show on July 19, which is now being billed as "UFC: Silva vs. Irvin". If you think it's purely a coincidence that they've opted to use language like "best fighter on the planet" with reference to a free event featuring Anderson Silva, while meanwhile Fedor Emelianenko fights elsewhere on the same night, then you haven't been paying attention.
In politics, this would be a great example of using code words to send a message to certain demographics without alienating others. In this scenario, that demographic is hardcore fans, and the message is clear: Anderson Silva is a better pound-for-pound fighter than Fedor, plus our show is free.
For the more casual fans, they also manage to justify showing Chuck Liddell, "Rampage" Jackson, and light heavyweight champ Forrest Griffin (still feels weird to type that) simply by mentioning the "stacked" 205-pound division. Well-played, UFC.
Unless the Affliction pay-per-view numbers exceed all expectations, the UFC can also take credit for torpedoing their event once it's all over. Something tells me Dana White has his 'I told you so' speech ready to go.

Dana still doesn't like jackson since his pride days where in an open tournament liddel was suspossed to win the whole thing but didn't get past rampage. Saturday night he finally got revenge on rampage, that was ridiculous. rogan said "good thing forrest is winning the fight" wtf like when dan henderson dominated anderson silva in the first round of there fight and then got clipped in the second, he clearly didn't get dominated in a 2 round fight where dan was on silva the whole first round he was not dominated. same as the shogun forrest fight, forrest couldn't comb his hair for a month aftyer that fight and shogun was gassed in the 2nd round. Affliction is paying more money on ther first card to "the fighters" then any of the ufc's, who cares if affliction might not survive they are trying to put on a complete card and they got the greatestfighter in the world on there first pay per view. mma is not about a couple crooks making money off fighters putting there life on the line wake the f up dana and your fertttities brothers

Affliction hasn't really done an effective job at advertising. I know about the card because of reading it on here but other than that I haven't seen anything for it. I feel unless you are active on the internet then you won't know about this. So for your newcomer MMA fan, all you will know about is the free UFC card

listen, ufc can torpedo this event like you said, but affliction will get exposure as an organization who will fork over the money for fedor.
