Must-See: Shinya Aoki Highlight Reel

Check out this sick HL video for our #3-ranked lightweight, which shows the “Tobikan Judan” pretzelizing motherfuckers with his otherworldly submission grappling. Action starts at the 1:55 mark; pay attention to the “Aokiplata” at 2:24, the kamikaze armbar at 4:04, and the yank-your-arm-out-of-its-socket submission at 5:06. Ouch. Aoki is back in action on July 21st, when he takes on Caol Uno (and possibly the winner of Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Eddie Alvarez) in the finals of DREAM’s lightweight GP.

    Wow. Seeing him jump to guard like that I can see why his fights with Shigetoshi Iwase and George Sotiropoulos ended like they did. And considering the first JZ fight Ithink I smell a pattern

    That flying armbar he does is my jiu jitsu teachers favorite move. I’ve gotten good at defending it, but once your in it, you’re pretty much screwed.

    Aoki has some awesome flexibility. Kick ass highlight reel.

    Seriously though, to me, this kind of submission game is just as, if not more exciting to watch as big KO punches. This is why MMA is what it is. Awesome. This guy would tear through a ton of upper echelon UFC guys.
