UFC 90: October 25th in Chicago

(Ditka vs. Anderson Silva, Chuck Liddell, and GSP simultaneously: Who ya got?)
For the first time in the league’s history, the UFC will be holding an event in Chicago. Dana White broke the good news through the Chicago Sun-Times, announcing that UFC 90 will go down October 25th at the Allstate Arena, which was previously the venue for Adrenaline MMA’s debut card last month. Said White:
”Chicago is a huge market for us. We track pay-per-view buys for our events and ratings on Spike TV, and Chicago is a killer market for us. There are tons of fans in Chicago and around Chicago, and it’s going to be one of the places we hit often. It’s a great fight town, and we’re really pumped that we’re finally getting this done.”
The reason it took so long is because MMA wasn’t fully sanctioned by the Illinois Athletic Commission until recently. No matches are announced for the event yet, though White, unsurprisingly, promised a “big-time fight.” (Forrest Griffin vs. TBA? Sanchez vs. Alves? Illinois native Matt Hughes settling his grudge with Matt Serra?) Tickets will go on sale to the general public on August 9th, though scalpers members of the UFC Fight Club will have a chance to buy tickets earlier.

I’m guessing BJ vs. Huerta/Florian winner, Serra//Hughes, probably a return for Stephan Bonner, who trains in chicagoland.

BJ vs. Huerta/Florian winner sounds good. If BJ wins (which he will), he gets GSP on Superbowl weekend. Penn wants to fight GSP on the the new years PPV but they will be overshadowed by Liddell vs. Forrest.
Wandy could also be fighting, but I’m not sure who his opponent will be. Who in the hell knows when Rampage will be OK to fight again and all the other top LHWs seem to be booked this fall. And Wandy does not seem interested in fighting cans.

Who would you pick, Ditka or a hurricane?
Oh that’s easy, Ditka.
Wait a second, what if the hurricane’s name was Hurrican Ditka?
Oh, now that’s a tough one.

@ Andrew: Wanderlei has said repeatedly he will not fight again before December at the earliest. Obviously I hope he changes his mind, because you can never have too much Axe Murderer.
Maybe Shogun will be back in time, perhaps to take Soko up on his challenge?

Oh, right. Soko at 89, my bad.

I just read that Hughes won’t be ready to fight for another 6-7 months due to his knee, so him vs. Serra on this card ain’t happening. Maybe Serra vs. someone else. Putting Huerta or Florian against BJ just 2.5 months after their fight seems a little brutal, but that would be awesome.

Depends if the winner is fucked up or not after the fight.

I will be making the trip from Milwaukee for this one! As a matter of fact when the f*ck is Wisconsin going to get a big show? We have been very supportive of the sport…Even during the “dark ages”.
