Fedor vs. Arlovski at Affliction 2 (Oct. 11, Las Vegas)

Yahoo! Sports passes along the big news: Affliction will be having its second event on October 11th at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, featuring a main event heavyweight brawl between Fedor Emelianenko and Andrei Arlovski. No other matches are announced at this time.
Emelianenko has fought at the Thomas & Mack before, submitting Mark Coleman at PRIDE 32, which was held at the arena in October 2006. Without a doubt it will chap the ass of Dana White for Affliction to be holding an event in his backyard, and a counter-programming show would seem to be out of the question as well, as the UFC already has events planned on October 18th (UFC 89) and October 25th (UFC 90).
As suggested before, Affliction following up its debut event in less than three months is crucial to its momentum, and the timing in relation to the UFC's events is perfect. You couldn't ask for a better main event, though I'm a little surprised that Josh Barnett isn't being thrown at Fedor first; from a marketing standpoint, American vs. Russian beats Russian vs. Belarusian, and MMA fans have been begging for a Barnett/Emelianenko showdown since their tenures in PRIDE.

I think Arlovski is better known to American MMA fans than Barnett. After all he's been a highlight reel on "UFC Unleashed" for years now. My guess is that Barnett will be facing Buentello on the show so that the winner of Barnett/Buentello will have a known win streak going when he faces Fedor.
Just as momentum is important for this second show, it's going to be vital in the third, fourth etc. If Affliction has good minds at the helm they'll also set up fights for Babalu and lil Nog, while working out contracts with Tito Ortiz and setting up a big 205 fight for their third or fourth show, most likely introducing a belt for the winner of that contest. That will have to be an actual "Aflliction Championship" rather than a WAMMA-sanctioned title, as 205 is not exactly at an elite level in their promotion, not yet anyway.

Fedor (the new Chuck Norris sensation) will have his hands full in this fight. What I mean by that is it may go into the 2nd round. Fedor finishes fights and although AA has shown improvement he is still not in Fedors league. I think Randy Couture could present a challenge and am anxious to see that fight go down. I think with this announcment though we will not see a co promoted fight between RC and FE

Arlovski's a better opponent for Fedor than Barnett because, due to his time in the UFC, Arlovski's a much bigger name in the US.
In the highly probable event of Fedor winning this fight, Fedor can then be billed as having beaten 2 former UFC champs which should make him an easier sell.

lol i,ve followed mma for many years and i honestly dont believe fedor vs anyone would be a good fight.if you reverted the rules back to vale tudo then maybe its possible someone could beat him ie massive cuts from headbutts but mma is more like a restricted martial art like sambo these days and fedor is a master of sport.

Fedor is a badass, I mean he has had several impressive fights to date and in my opinion is one of the if not the best fighter around. Just really glad to see more of him lately.

i'd love to see arlovski put the kibosh on fedor, and get that long awaited rematch with buentello... lol... you thought the 36 second main event was quick? buentello will be out before he even steps foot into the ring.
fedor vs. arlovski should have been what they started with in the first place, but since i don't design t-shirts, i guess i don't get a say in what goes on.

Gotta say King Leonidas, I mean Arlovski, is one of my all time favorite fighters. But he will end up just another number in Fedor's win column. He may be a more precise striker but Fedor has more power and is deadly on the ground. I've read it somewhere before, "The only man that will defeat Fedor is father time."

I don't think arlovski/barnett/couture are going to present problems for fedor. I however would love to see either Fedor vs Sergei Kharitonov or Fedor vs Anderson Silva, especially after finishing James Irving at 205lbs as quick as he did!! Who agrees with me?

Fedor is not fighting Arlovski! It is Barnett vs. Arlovski. Fedor is not fighting on this card as of yet and dont think he will be considering they already stated the Barnett fight as the headliner! Sucks, I wanted to see Fedor bang with Andrei!!!!
