Silva vs. Cote Booked for UFC 90; Penn vs. GSP Possible for December
(Patrick Cote: Dead man.)
The UFC has informed the Chicago Sun-Times that UFC 90 (October 25th @ Chicago’s Allstate Arena) will be headlined by a middleweight title bout between Anderson Silva and Patrick Cote. Get a load of how retarded Cote is:
“This guy will need 10 punches to my face to knock me out, and I’ll just need one,” Cote said. ‘”I have a good chance. He won’t exchange with me, and I’m not scared of him.”
Absolutely nothing in the above statement is accurate. And if that 10/1 ratio thing that “The Predator” mentioned sounds familiar, it’s because James Irvin said something idiotically similar before getting his lights turned out — with one punch! ha! — in his fight against Silva. But don’t worry, because Cote knows that the secret to defeating Anderson Silva is head movement:
“If you want to know how not to fight Silva, just watch tape of [the Silva/Irvin] fight,” Cote said. “He was flat on his feet with no head movement. He threw a lazy kick against a world-class Muay Thai fighter, and that’s what happens. I’m not like James Irvin. I’m a better striker, and I’m faster.”
Translation: Cote isn’t making it past the first round. In other UFC news, Five Ounces of Pain is reporting that if Georges St. Pierre successfully defends his welterweight title against Jon Fitch next month, he’ll face BJ Penn on December 27th, at a yet-unnumbered UFC event that is also slated to feature the heavyweight title clash between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Frank Mir. One theory making the rounds is that the Penn/GSP match will be a non-title affair that will be marketed as a “battle of the weight divisions.” As cheesy as that sounds, there’s a certain logic to it — assuming the fight is contested at welterweight, it would seem a little unfair for GSP’s belt to be on the line but not Penn’s. We just hope that the UFC has special “superfight rules” in place that would make Penn vs. St. Pierre five rounds instead of three. More to come…

Cote is a smart guy, the REAL reason he mentioned that 10 to 1 ratio thing is because deep down he knows hes gonna get hit 10 times to his 1 time he will get to hit Anderson Silva.
It makes good hype to pretend you are a total bad ass, that way the people who are newbies will believe it and bet on you….while the real fans will know hes full of shit and cant wait to see him get knocked the fuck out.
And the best part of it, after Anderson beats his ass, he will go get on his knees, bow before him, give him back some of the pride he beat out of his ass, just like the humble warrior that he is.

As a fighter, he HAS to believe that he is going to beat his opponent, or at least has a chance to beat his opponent. Brutal honesty just doesn’t work.

It must be rough going into a fight knowing that your brain is going to bounce off your skull in fairly short order. He does have to talk himself up and he can take a punch but after henderson and irvin showed us the reality of the situation there is no real chance of cote making it out without brain damage.

Silva will set him up with a light exchange, frustrate him with movement and then pull guard for a triangle choke victory. Cote has no ground game, Silva knows it. I say this only because Anderson seems like he might be getting bored with KO’ing bitches.

Patrick Cote is doomed. Period. He doesn’t have any skills to beat Anderson Silva. The only way he has a chance to win is if Anderson slips, falls and knocks himself out. Or if Anderson Wins the LHW Title in the next few months and forfeits the belt. Neither of which are likely to happen. Patrick Cote is going to try to stand with Anderson Silva which is, for a fact, the worst possible strategy.

After re-reading my comment, I realize that I must have had my bitch-pants on when I posted that. I have liked Cote since he took the fight with Tito on short notice and almost KOed him. But he surely does not need my sympathy.

Demian Maia is maybe… MAYBE… the only person the UFC has who has a shot at beating Spider. But barring him doing something insane to The Mathlete, he’s still a couple fights away from a shot. Until then we get to watch the human equivalent of a pit bull fighting a kitten, and I’m not complaining.
Also, bad location for the fight. The Allstate isn’t even in the Chicago city limits, it’s in Rosemont which is a 15 minute drive from downtown where I imagine all the afterparties will be. And which is where I’ll be.

Cote is by no means a real well rounded fighter, he’s a stand up knockout artist and that’s basically it, his wrestling and jiu jitsu is just good enough to keep him out of trouble against someone else with mediocre wrestling an jits, but still
if anyone at 185 has a legitimate shot at knocking Silva off the throne, it’s Cote, for the simple reason that Cote has one punch knockout power. if he comes out fast and aggressive enough, he could be the man to take out Silva. he’s just got to realize that if he’s gonna end this fight, he’s going to have to do it before Silva can mount any kind of an offense, and he’s gonna have to do it with one big shot… it’s a puncher’s chance, nothing more, but it’s better than anyone else has had so far… besides, bigger miracles have happened.
