On Saturday, Antonio Margarito ripped the WBA welterweight (147 pounds) title from the grip of the undefeated Miguel Cotto, in a back-and-forth war that ended with an 11th-round TKO victory for the Mexican fighter. Did anyone else catch Lampley’s jab at MMA at the end…. Around the 53 to 54 min mark they talk about Cotto taking a shot while he was on the ground and Lampley says….
“There’s the shot while Cotto was on the ground, that’s supposted to be a big thing here in Vegas right?” - That’s not an exact quote but that’s the jist of it.
What a douche. He’s such a MMA hater. He’s a great boxing commentator, w/ a great voice but he hates on MMA soooooo much.

Regardless of being Mexican or being Boriqua, it was a good fight and reality is that the Mexian beat the shit out of the puertorican. Whether it was because he was Mexican or simply a better fighter, Margarito fucked up Cotto, hands down. And it is what it is, like it or not. Oh and about the rematch, Cotto would probably get his ass kicked again.

I really don’t understand why all of a sudden mexicans think that they are the shit. In the last 10 years, how many mexican champs has there been? Not that many, and that’s not even counting De La Hoya cause he’s more Americanized. By Far there has been more Puerto Rican champs in the past 20 years then Mexicans champs. I really think Cotto is a hell of a better “BOXER” but July 26th was just a better night for Margarito. This was definitely one of the Best fights I’ve seen. Race is the last thing people should be talkin’ about, especially if they don’t know what the fuck they are talkin’ about. But this fight definitely put boxing back on the map. Too bad Mayweather and De La Hoya are too scared to fight any of the following; Margarito, Cotto or even Paul Williams. I guess Mayweather really doesn’t have too much to brag about since he’s retiring when the division has just gotten better then all the guys he’s fought.

INDEED, VERY ENTERTAINIING. Miguel Cotto displayed true boxing skills and heart. We all know cotto hits hard, but margarito has a “good chin”. However I dont believe theres any chin in the world that can take that kind of hitting. With respect to the sport of boxing and all its fighters, I am very skeptical of how a man can take that many hits and still press forward with out any signs of fatigue. AND SO SHOULD YOU GUYS.

Awesome fight! Cotto showed amazing skills vs the first taller challenger he had and he did awesome! Margarito is a true champ, I give him mad props. Cotto I believe went in to this fight too confident. And all these people here talking about mexico vs puerto rico, grow up kids, its not about race, its about skills. this means all these people talking about race know nothing about boxing. I should say the best welterweight was and will always be Felix Trinidad. The best flyweight I would vote for any mexican fighter. So give your opinions about the fight not the fact that a “mexican” won this fight because if you think about it, boxers from Puerto Rico have won way more than just a couple compared to Mexico. Once again, mad props to Margarito and for the rematch, I see Cotto coming stronger but I dont think he can win.

I’m Mexican, but I was a Cotto fan and I also liked Margarito. The race war needs
to stop, keep it to boxing people. Look, Margarito beat Cotto plain and simple, Cotto
gave him his usual precise game, but Margarito was too strong. As far as him using drugs, I think you need to do your homework before you start rumors. Margarito is probably one of the hungriest fighters in the game. For years while people refused to fight him he stayed in the gym, working on his cardio, while Cotto was knocking dudes out that he was usually naturally bigger than. Margarito is tall, and really any normal human being would be weighing at least 180 pounds at his height, so I think he’ll be able to take Cotto’s punch. TRUTH, Cotto is good but not a great fighter, that was proven when he almost got knocked out by some Columbian scrub 3 years ago.
Also I challenge dude who said there have been more Puerto Rican champs in the last 20 years, and UGLY??? I’ve turned down more pu**y then you’ve gotten in your lifetime…FACT ask your blonde blue eye cumbucket sister. Ask her about my great 8. REAL.

It clearly was an even match. Margarito threw power punches and Cotto did what he does best..box. Margarito won the fight and Cotto needs to wait for another shot. If De La Hoya fights Margarito then De La Hoya will just retire as a looser. Mayweather (or how ever his last name is spelled) retired before it was his time… he was smart, he did not want to get a beating like Cotto did. (He knew it was going to happen).
For all of those who think Margarito took steroids then they do not know a real Mexican fighter when they see one. Take a look at all of the great mexican fighters…. they do not fall down very easy and they are very persistent. Stop trying to find excuses for Cotto’s loss… accept the truth…Mexican fighters are the best.
