Tito Ortiz Confirms Juanito Ibarra's Scumbaggery

Ortiz: Let me explain this to you because it really pisses me off that Ibarra has done what he has done. He is a thief. I have been running training camps for seven years up in Big Bear California and the most that my camp has cost a fighter to attend is $35,000. Ibarra was charging Jackson $65,000 to go to Big Bear. I don't understand that! He was being very disrespectful and taking advantage of Rampage. Including travel, training partners, food and lodging, the most ever was $35,000. Maybe if you flew in more trainers, $40,000. Where did that extra money go that Ibarra was charging? Rampage is really pissed and he feels betrayed that he was taken advantage of and I couldn't agree more with him. I don't care if Juanito reads this or hears about it anywhere, he already knows that he is blackballed. I don't care who you are; fighters work very hard for the money they earn and I feel slighted for even knowing Juanito.
So that's it, then. Sometime directly before or after his fight with Forrest Griffin, Jackson learned that the cost of training at Tito's camp was much less than Ibarra told him it was. Ibarra — his mentor and spiritual advisor — was skimming 30 large per training camp, and Rampage's world fell apart. Hence, the fasting and the energy drinks and the bumper car session in Costa Mesa and Ibarra not making public statements. If this is true, Juanito is a scumbag who should be bounced out of the business. And it's just another warning to young fighters who can't be bothered with the financial aspect of their careers: Hire a professional, and don't leave everything in the hands of the sketchy guy with the Kangol hat and focus mitts.

$65,000 is not to much if that is what Rampage agreed to pay him. In most cases, you get what you pay for. We don't know everything that went on, so specualtion is useless. If I was Rampage, I would gladly pay Juanito 65 large before I paid Tito anything. But thats just me.

it only matters if he told page that's his standard rate, thus lying to him. it makes no difference legally...the contract is what matters. he could have asked around and found out what his rate was. rampage blaming his freakout on ibarra is just lame. be a god damn man and take responsibility for your own shit.

How much is the guy worth who took you from losing to Shogun, to being UFC Champion? I would say he is worth 65K, if Tito is 35, Juanito is certainly worth 65. Hell top notch training is going to cost you, and when you're making hundreds of thousands a fight, god knows how much in sponsorship dollars, you shouldn't whine over a little extra for top notch training.

You gotta understand fighters dont fight back to back on main cards. jackson doesnt make that much, nor do most fighters. (Even though the UFC does have higher/logical payout rates). Even sponsorships dont always come in the form of money, it can always be merchandise also. 65k is a big difference from the 30k that Tito was talking about. I mean with all the taxes and shit coming off their check, a good fight still wont be that much.

Taking anything on Tito's word is about as dumb a thing as I can think of. Still, Ibarra is starting to develop a bit of a history with this sort of thing.
He parted ways with Oscar De La Hoya on bad terms. He parted ways with Vitor Belfort and very bad terms, and in this case, both have said it was due to money issues.
I'm not saying Ibarra is a scam artist, but he is just starting to do some very scam-artisty things lately.

65K for a training camp doesnt seem that unreasonable to me. Ibarra is giving one on one coaching, plus whatever trainers he brings in. Does Titos camp soley revolve around your training, or are other fighters getting the attention. He definitely helped Jackson. If Jackson only fights two to three times a year, how is Ibarra even making a living. Does he also get a cut for management?
