Elite XC Still Getting Good Mileage Out of Kimbo's Backyard Brawls
(Props: Steve Cofield, again)
We just had to go and complain that Elite XC and CBS weren't doing enough to hype their Oct. 4 event. Then came "Hits & Chicks." Now it's "the greatest mixed martial arts show in Florida history" featuring "undefeated Miami street fighting legend" Kimbo Slice. Oh, and just in case you were worried that his street fighting days weren't being well-represented enough, they made sure to include plenty of clips. I don't know if they're referring to him as undefeated in MMA, which is true, or undefeated in street fighting, which is not (Sean Gannon, anyone?), but either way you get the point. They stop just short of showing Kimbo working out with the Milf Hunter, presumably because they had to give Ken Shamrock his obligatory three seconds of screen time.
When it comes to selling tickets, I guess you hype whatever you got, however you can.

As much as I appreciate the comedy on this site, there seems to be a lot of negativity. Continually bashing elite xc, affliction, etc. A lot of these guys are still learning how to do things and trying to become profitable so they can continue the events. So give them some slack - I don't want a UFC monopoly. I would very much appreciate an article (perhaps by Ben Fowlkes?) on what these organizations should be doing so we can diversify the support, have more money pour in for the athletes, and make it bigger.

HAHAAHAH, the milf hunter! That just makes me laugh.

IMHO, Kimbo Slice is already the most over hyped personality in MMA.

Indestruktible, did you miss the unknown amount of comments from the writers bashing Dana White and the UFC? It's not just EliteXC and Affliction, its eeevvverrryyyooonneeee.
It's also been said a million times that EliteXC should focus on the actual talent they have and not go with an over-rated hype machine like Kimbo.
IMO I dont particularly mind the Kimbo Slice hype machine, I know it's all BS anyway but im pretty sure the fights leading upto the main event drew like at least a 3.0 or something?
That's alot of people watching the up and coming guys, how many people watched Saturday Night Fights 2 with no Kimbo but a few decent names? Alot less iirc.

the elitexc really isn't that bad. so what if you dislike the management. look at that fight card. it looks pretty good you gotta say. i've seen ufcs so shitty i wanted to kill myself.. especially the last ufc fight night that had anderson silva on the card, fuck that was TORTURE.
not every organization can be as strong as the ufc, so who gives a fuck. without the smaller organizations, how would these people work their way up? everybody starts an amateur.. with the exception of lesnar

Kimbo is too old to get anywhere amazing like a UFC heavyweight title. So let him ride the Elite XC train and stack up some wins. He isnt a bad fighter, defiently a great striker. But the mans like 36 or something. If someone wouldve taken him outta the street fights 10 years ago we'd have a monster. But yes, overhyped. Affliction and the UFC are in a different league from Elite XC. But atleast they're trying.
vv Says:
and please, no one start throwing out the couture name or something. He's just special. Not many fighters stay that good after 35. Look at liddell. Age is getting to him. Plus 205 is defiently the most talented weight class. 10+ amazing fighters. He shud jump down to 185, that ponch that he's growing over those abs he had when he first came into the UFC must way atleast 15 pounds. lol
Markdog Says:
@ Hey: Hey, I respect your opinion, but could you please enlighten me as to why you thought the last Fight Night was torture?
Alexander Says:
Shit cyborg is gonna fuckin tear gina to shreds , and then shell probably eat her heart...lol
shes a fuckin beast!
sol Says:
Hey markdog, I didnt think the last Fight Night was so bad, Im thinking you have the same opinion which is probably why you are asking the question.
I cant really remember the fights clearly on that card apart from the two title fights but in general production value it was average at best, for free MMA though it was a cut above the rest.
