Ken Shamrock: The Raconteur
(Props: MMA Scraps)
Things that you have to love about this Ken Shamrock video:
1) He doesn't blame you for thinking he's washed up based on his last few fights.
2) He continually refers to the sport as "the MMA," just like your father might.
3) He apparently trains exclusively in slow motion with a piano tinkling in the background.
All kidding aside, this video makes me both excited and sad for Shamrock's fight with Kimbo Slice on Saturday. The man's will is still there but the flesh is, well, not. He's doing a great job of crafting a narrative (around the 11:00 mark he starts talking about Kimbo, and at 14:15 he explains that Kimbo "is walking into my sport, and he hasn't earned the right to be there."), which has always been one of the things Shamrock does well.
But after what we've seen from him in recent years there's just no reason to think he's going to go out there and beat Kimbo. There is every reason to think that one of the sport's pioneers is going to go out there and lose badly and it's going to be a damn shame to see.
Who knows, though. He seems acutely aware of why Elite XC brought him in, and maybe he will indeed "completely blow up their party" on Saturday night. If he does I hope the CBS cameramen have the good sense to pan to Jared Shaw immediately afterwards. That look on his face? It will be the 'That son of a bitch just blew up my party,' look.

KneeToTheFace Says:
If Kimbo couldn't finish James Thompson, I don't think he'll be able to finish Shamrock. Sure, Kimbo has pretty good punching power but it isn't like Ken hasn't been against people who can punch. He'll shoot for an early takedown and wear Kimbo out. By the time round 2 comes around, I don't think Kimbo will be bouncing around and shifting his weight properly to get a knockout.

drummer Says:
I hope Ken kicks his ass. He should have lost that fight to Thompson.
Mark's Right Says:
After watching the whole 15 minutes, i must admit... i have a great deal more respect for Ken Shamrock. Sometimes its easy to forget what ken shamrock did for this sport, mainstreaming it from WWF (he taught me about the UFC by way of Monday night RAW). hes washed up, not as fast as he used to be, and has a definite weight disadvantage. But, compare this to ancient chinese master vs new black belt in the masters order...
sure the master will probably get his ass kicked in a melee, but in a point for point contest, the master has a greater array of skill, experience and knowledge of the sport...
so with this video, i give kimbo the first (1st minute of 2nd round at LATEST) round ko, but if it goes to 3 rounds (lol) then i believe ken has a 50/50 chance of breaking kimbo's leg, just like he did kimbos trainer... ending kimbos career forever. HAHAHA
Who says lightning never strikes the same place twice..
anyway, one of the lesser caliber hype-fights all year, but im very excited to see someones career end.
Im right.

Dr. Says:
Go get him Ken.
oh shit Says:
ken is doomed ^.^
Ninjay Says:
Growing up i loved Ken Shamrock. He is a true pioneer of the sport. That being said his time has been up for some time now. It's very sad when a fighter doesn't know when to "hang up the gloves". I do give him all the credit in the world for acknowledging the reason he was offered the fight. He doesn't have delusions of "they brought me in because i'm the best".
Kimbo's conditioning is VERY questionable. If Ken can manage to stay away from his heavy hands for two round he might actually pull something off. It's very doubtful but i would love to see it happen. I'm pretty tired of all the hype and love Kimbo gets. I really wish they would throw someone young, strong, and skilled in against him. They hand pick the absolute easiest fights possible so he can keep his reputation. Sooner or later Kimbo will be exposed as a one of a kind power puncher, but an average at best Martial Artist.
Heel Hookin Motherfuckers Says:
Seems like most guys are forgeting that Kimbo is not the big bad wolf any more. After seeing what James Thompson did to Kimbo on the ground, Ken has a real chance baby. And don't forget that Kimbo didn't even really win his last fight.
Heel Hook FTW.
Dildo_Slice Says:
unfortunately ken cannot win by decision. elite tipped off the judges and ref already. elite is the shadiest organization ever on top of being the worst. I just hope ken fucks him up so much they have no choise but to stop the fight
Mayhams Free Haircut Says:
Loved the end of the interview:
So what is Kimbo Slices flaw?
"His beard, he's got too big of a beard!" -
Ken Shamrock via 2nd round BKO (beard knock out).
Derekrva Says:
I think you can fit two Kimbos in Vernon White's nostrils.
I think I just found the batcave.
The closer we get to the fight, the more I realize what a risk Elite XC is taking with this fight. I still believe Kimbo will win, most likely TKO that will be argued as an early stoppage, but this is The MMA and the anything can happen.
Frank Says:
I can't wait til Ken starts sucking the cock shaped chest hair of Kimbo on Saturday night.
Anonymous Says:
I wonder if Shamrock got that herpes sore on his lip from the mat.
B Says:
I had to look up raconteur...very nice.
haha.
Shamrock by flying kneebar.
Koeikan Says:
Anyone else think his shadow boxing looks terrible...?
BeaverLord Says:
If what his wife is saying is true about the dinner date threesome with Dana, that's really really fucked up.
Ken by stab to the balls and cutting the anus. That'll really piss off Bas.
Maod Says:
He looks ooooold! He´s gonna get run over.
Harry Balzonya Says:
I hope Ken takes home a win from this fight. Go Ken!
"Go Chuck!" is the exact thing I said before Chuck's last fight...gulp.
Rich S. Says:
i would love to see Shammy win.. but.. i'm pretty sure it's impossible..
all the PRIDE fights and Rich Franklin and Tito aside.. look at his loss to Buzz Berry.. he had one, MAYYYYBE two failed takedown attempts and he immediately gave up, and resorted to striking with a superior striker..
now,
i don't care if he has to look like a jackass doing it, but, he better get that takedown..
he can miss 20 takedown attempts and he STILL needs to keep trying to take him down..
i just hope he realizes this..
jim Says:
i wouldnt worry too much about kimbo knockin ya out - he couldnt knock out thompson an he got the glass jaw. i'd be more worried bout the ref stoppin it cos you break a nail while kimbo lies down on the floor to recover

jim smith Says:
Ken has two oopenents, Kimbo and Shaw. They are going to rpotect their investment in Kimbo. If Ken looks like he is even slightly dazed, they will stop it. It it goes to a decision, Kimbo gets it. Ken has to win decisively, and that means a submission. Unfortunately Ken had not submitted anyone in a looong time. If I was in his corner, I would tell him to ground and pound. If Ken takes a couple shots trying for a leg lock, they just might stop the fight. He had to get on top and rain down hammer fists and elbows.
Grumpy Says:
I'm surprised Geritol and Ensure are not sponsoring this bout. I would love to see Viagra sponsor Ken. He could have a viagra sign across his package.
fastfoodandbeer Says:
Does he always have a herpe on his lip? Have you seen that commercial where that guys is at a job interview and all the interviewer can hear is the stain on his shirt screaming jibberish? That's what his lip herpe is doing to me right now.
Jugger Says:
Great interview. I have always liked Ken. Always; and I will continue to do so. He can generate hype, put butts in seats and make money for any organization he signs up with. At 44, however, he's paid too many dues to actually achieve much in the sport anymore.
Kimbo won't even have to connect clean. Just an inaccurate right hand lobbed in the general direction of Shammy's head should do the trick. Ken's brain has been jarred far too many times. I mean, Sakuraba sneezed on Ken and flash KO'd him. Sak was an extremely light 205'er.
It will suck to see him lose, but lose he will.
blown32v Says:
I'd really like to see Ken pull this one off, it's not a longshot as they both have different styles and strong points. It's just who will get the better of one another. I'll be going for Ken.
Ken Says:
That shit on his lip, has got some shit on it's lip
JPfighter Says:
Why is it that Ken's punching style is so "tight"? Whenever I see him train or fight, it's like he has his elbows tied to his sides by invisible rubber bands. Regardless of his age, over the last 5 years he has spent too much time weight training, and not enough time focusing on throwing fluid punches with flexibility and snap. He almost seems like he is constantly "flexing" his physique when he is on his feet striking. I would love to see Ken win this fight, but it's gonna take a miracle of epic proportions. If he pulls it off, that would be fantastic.
Joe Says:
Definitely hope Ken wins but as stated earlier the ref and EliteXC are doing everything they can to get Kimbo a win. No decision wins and watch for the early stoppage.
Maybe we'll get a ref whos got some scruples and lets them finish the fight before making a bad early call.
Good luck Ken im definitely hoping you can pull out the W!
Reid Says:
I don't get why so many people think Kimbo is going to easily win this fight. He can punch hard and THAT IS IT. He looked awful in his fight against Thompson. If Thompson could throw a single remotely powerful elbow, that fight would have ended on the ground. But those "noogies" Thompson was giving him just didn't get the job done. Unless Kimbo connects a few punches, I think Ken will come out on top. He won't have a problem defending against such a one-dimensional attack, even at his age.
