Affliction Decides Hybrid MMA/Boxing Card Was a Stupid Idea
(Andrei Arlovski: It’s all meaningless without the WAMMA belt.)
MMA Rated has learned that Affliction’s second event will be headlined by a match between Fedor Emelianenko and Andrei Arlovski, and will likely be held in Anaheim, California, on January 24th — a week after UFC 93 in Dublin. According to Affliction Entertainment VP Tom Atencio, the date, location, and more bouts will be announced next week.
Though the event will still be co-promoted with Golden Boy, Affliction’s January event will only feature MMA matches, despite earlier rumors that it would be a mixed MMA/boxing card with a big-name boxing match in the main event spot. Said Atencio: “We sat down with them and couldn’t come up with a main event boxing match that everyone wanted.”
Arlovski represents the toughest challenge for Emelianenko in at least three years, and based on the Pitbull’s recent performance, he could give Fedor a run for his money. Even better, MMA fans won’t have to deal with a 12-round boxing buzzkill toplining the card. Sounds like a win-win.

Not that I’m complaining, I will really enjoy this fight, but where the hell is Barnett? It seems like he is being iced right now, when’s he gonna get some action? I hope Barnett fights one of these two after their scrap. Those three are the only ones that deserve to be in the mix right now. Once they all fight each other, I don’t know where Affliction will go from there. That’s assuming they’ll be around long enough to face that problem.

Andre is a great fighter, but he is not going to beat Fedor unless he pulls some the “Petruzelli” effect and gets Fedor with a shot. He almost went out when big country caught him on the chin, staggering him for a moment, while his ground game was very Houston Alexander in its approach of laying there not sure what to do. Fedor will jump all over him if he staggers from a shot like the big Sylvia found out, and if he falls to the ground we all know who is going to get submitted.
Andre has the punchers chance, but please get some promotion to let us see the Fedor/Couture before we all go insane!

so, if fedor does beat arlovski will the arguments of “fedor hasnt faced anybody” cease. when i process through who its gonna take for him to beat to be called the best, ive come to the conclusion that with regardless of who he might beat, there’s always gonna be an excuse for why they got beat. what you guys think. who does it take him beating to be hands down the best?

Arlovski runs either hot or cold, so it’s really hard to tell how the fight would go. Fedor will be Fedor, but if Arlovski is on and can dig up his elusive explosive power, it will be a great fight. Otherwise, if Arlovski goes in all tentative and sketchy, it’ll be another instant submission win for the Russian. I would actually pony up the money to see this fight in Anaheim. Good to see that the boxing stupidity has been nixed.

No way, we’d HAVE to see the two “Pitbulls” fight first: Arlovski v. Palin. It would have to be a mudwrestling event…with AA’s little girlfriend involved, too…okay, leave Arlovski out. I would definitely pay to see that one!
