Cote: "I F*cked Him Up Really Bad" (!)
Wow...the delusions you suffer when Anderson Silva allows you to reach round three. As you can see in this video from MMACanada, Patrick Cote has a rather inflated sense of his own toughness following Saturday night's debacle. After explaining that his knee was actually toast by the end of the second round, the Predator launches into the money quote:
"I proved to everybody that this guy's not unbeatable. I think I fucked him up really bad ['you fucked him up' and 'oh, big time' his friends shout, possibly sarcastically]. My gameplan was good and I think he was scared to exchange with me. I received all his best punch and all his best knee and I was still there."
Well, that's a matter of opinion. It's still unclear what was going through Silva's head during those first two rounds, but I wouldn't assume that he was scared of Cote (who never gave Silva reason to be), and the small handful of bored strikes he threw certainly did not represent "his best punch and his best knee." Far from it. What we saw at UFC 90 was Anderson Silva at his most ineffective. Though hey, maybe he was going to make something happen in the championship rounds. Cote would also like you to know that he didn't fake the knee injury, and he thought it was a little bit rude when Silva offered his hand to help him during the fight. Okay? Now let's all forget that this ever happened.
Dana White, it should be noted, was understandably disappointed with Silva's performance, and didn't think it had anything to do with fear of Cote.
As he told MMA Weekly:
"I’ve seen guys who get thrown out of their rhythm, or can’t find their range, or just can’t seem to get off, and maybe that’s what happened...Anderson Silva’s the nicest guy in the world — [but] he doesn’t help people up in the Octagon. He’s a killer when that bell rings...It was weird. Anderson Silva was in a different place tonight."
White added this on ESPNRadio1100:
"What else am I supposed to believe? Am I supposed to believe that he came out to not throw one punch or not do anything for three rounds? I don't believe that. All I know is I wanted to put my head through the table I was sitting at. You ever watch Star Trek? I wanted to transport myself back to Vegas in my bed."
So what did you make of Silva's bizarre performance? Was it a public protest at not being given tougher competition? A failed attempt to make the fight interesting by stretching it out? Or has success officially changed Anderson Silva from a humble killer to a disinterested, douchey show-off?

i think he was bored or cote fucked up his game plan
Mr. Anderson Says:
Silva is just light years away from any other fighter and I think he realized how much above Cote he was. He probably felt bad that he was going to put this guy away in the first round. Cote had only a lucky haymakers chance in hell at beating Silva. I doubt we will get the full story though because it seems that no one is able to translate Silva's interviews.
shitwhistle Says:
Frustrating to watch, for sure.
He wasn't thrown off his game. Cote didn't confuse him. He just didn't do any-godamned-thing.
If that's what we have to look forward to, go ahead and retire.
Jay Says:
I think maybe Anderson's after party wasnt' scheduled to start before 2am so I think he was just trying to stretch out the fight so he could arrive fasionably late. I also think it's hilarious that Anderson scared Cote's knee so bad it broke on him. That is one tough dude.
Rick Says:
Silva looked different from the start. He looked distracted even when he was coming out to the ring. Ok, so he usually takes a round to feel someone out but extending that into round two was a little much. Especially considering all Cote did to "fuck him up" was throw a couple crappy kicks, none of which hit with anything other than his toes. Cote was really happy he got to the third round but considering Anderson threw less punches against him than Irvin, maybe he should be careful what he says and does in reference to Silva, because if there's a rematch and he pisses Silva off, chances are he won't be getting to a second round.
But who knows, maybe Silva is calming down for his impending retirement.
oh and sorry I didn't include any dick or fart jokes.
C-Bus Allstar Says:
"Or has success officially changed Anderson Silva from a humble killer to a disinterested, douchey show-off?"
Well you know as well as anyone else who has ever seen an interview with "The Spider" that this statement is totally bullshit.
He was just having an off night.. It happens to every fighter in the fucking world sooner or later.. Trust me, he would have KO'd Cote in the 4th after he found his rhythm if Cote's pussy ass knee hadn't quit.
NINJA STICK Says:
Anderson should get his balls booted for show boating and dancing like a fairy he could of finished that fight in round one if he'd of hit him twice in a row....
Clyde Says:
I think Silva just put money on the fight going past round two and was just dicking around until then. He slipped up a bit at the end when he got that clinch and landed a few knees so he decided to let it go.
Fuck it I have no idea what he was up to. Silva you crazy fuck, sort it out.
Cote, you do get some respect for going after the guy but watch the tape and see that those weren't exactly 10-8 rounds in your favour.
Dan Says:
You have to look at Andersons UFC record before the fight.
7 fights, all ended before the third round, with Silva never being in any real trouble or hurt.
They guy's bored.
Vrax Says:
I was thinking Anderson looked like he had a cold. Either that or it's a conspiracy to set up Filho with easy pickens in a flawed UFC where Cote is still rated highly.
One of the two, obv.
alan Says:
Silva wanted to end the fight as he always does at the last rounds.
yeah he didnt seem to be "himself but i really think we would see him as the same silva as always at the finish

SILVA
In The Clinch Says:
It may just be me, but the cameraman/person doing the interview totally sounded like Strong Bad.
Kx Says:
Silva is the champion and you have to BEAT the champion.
Cote didn't bring anything to the fight.
Tellatruth Says:
Let's get some things straight.
1. Cote did not take Sylva to the 3rd round. Sylva took HIM.
2. He was not in the best shape of his life. If he was, an old injury would not have ruined his one chance, albeit slim, at glory.
3. He did not prove Sylva is beatable. How does he think he proved Sylva is beatable? With that one spinning back fist that landed with no damage?!
I think Sylva was operating from this perspective. "If he is gonna "one punch" me (is he magic?) he is going to have to catch me. i'm gonna dance, evade and frustrate him while i pick my opening and attack when he is distracted. I can win on points and i can win by knockout. I'll take whatever presents itself." After all, he has got nothing left to prove in MMA, right? Even if he did Patrick doesn't provide the platform to really prove anything.
Holla.
DROP DEAD JACK Says:
I think it was Silva's attempt to "make the fight exciting". exciting FAIL. I think he'll see the tape and realize that.
as for cote...he'll never see silva again. by the time his knee is better he'll fight some middleweight gate keeper and get "haped" like silva should have done to him in round 1.
DDJ.
tully Says:
i didnt see cote his silva at all, what a douche. i think silva was offended that cote said "it will take 10 of his punches to knock me out" so he was looking for a big 1 hit KO and waiting for his opening. thats why he threw that crazy jumping knee that he hit cote with, and that crazy jumping kick that barely missed him.

CWR Says:
At 2:58 it sounds like one of his friends yells "loser" while Cote is discussing how well he thought he did. Maybe it is just my cold...
God's Outlaw Says:
Man, sure glad I did not fork out the money to watch that fight from home. I went out to a local bar and watched.
My thoughts:
In the past, Sylva has felt out his opponents in the first round and usually has come back stronger and more aggressive in the second. I was suprised that he did not do the same against Cote. Didn't even look like he tried to put his combo's together.
Second, the show boating he did with moving and his hands around was something we haven't seen him do before.
Third, what the hell was he doing when he extended his hand to help Cote up. No idea but I am glad Cote didn't accept the help.
Fourth, Cote, you did nothing to warrant your statements and you are just plain lucky that he let you go to the 3rd round.
Sylva did not have the killer instict that night.
Can't wait to hear what Sylva says about this performance.
Kris Says:
It seemed as though Silva was waiting for Cote to attack so he could counter, and Cote wasn't buying it or attacking too much. I'm Canadian and I should be all over Cote but Silva is a much better, more creative fighter and would have easily won unless cote got in a lucky haymaker.
VEe! Says:
First, it is time to get over it. Everybody's theories interpreting Anderson Silva's performance or particularly his attitude doesn't apply. It's just a guessing game at this point. Whether he's disinterested, or not motivated enough can not be proven. Next fight, well see what happens.
Sadly enough this will probably be the official new-talking point that will be mentioned ad-nauseum "Silva is not motivated or challenged enough." Just like the stupid "Alves has trouble making weight" because he failed to do it one time, he had an ankle injury. It's over. Silva disrespected the sport. Interesting how the creators of the sport does not share most bloggers or sports writers perspectives.
Cote??
I guess Silva looked really messed up at the end of the fight.
The job of the challenger is to beat the champion. However you do it, whether you out-point him, submit him or stop the champion cold. Cote had a full 10 minutes to use his strong granite, iron-clad chin and KO-powered fist to beat Anderson Silva. Forrest did that in the eyes of the judges, he clearly dominated the 2nd round en route to the LHW title.
He didn't.
Unlike Lutter and Henderson, he didn't even arguably win one round. Everybody knows Silva is beatable because Chonan and other japanese fighter already proved it.
TheONE Says:
After reading these comments, I'm kinda glad the UFC didn't get my money. My heart goes out to Chi-Town.
alan Says:
The proof of anderson wanting to make this fight long and fun failed hard but tbh if he'd get the finish the last round we would be talking about cote getting pwnd right now....he really was aiming for a 4-5 rounds
After the fight he went backstage and worked out getting out of his system...you can watch the workout at ufc.com.
As for cote beeing so proud of getting throu to the 3d round...dude its like you only got there thanks to silva not smashing your face in at the first round...i can see why silva wanted to get some rounds in...if dan henderson didnt make it pass the 2nd then who tha fuck is patrick cote?
Disappointed Chicago Fan Says:
Despite it all, as much as I like watching Anderson, a part of me wanted to see Cote win this fight to uproot the impossible to defeat champ.
I was there at UFC 90 with the wife witnessing the most bizarre fight and ending to a pretty decent card minus the Burkman fight. (BTW Burkman looked horrible and should be sent to an outside org before coming back to the UFC). Cote definitely pressed forward movement and never bought into any of Anderson's antics or crowd noise and was fighting a smart fight. He took some vicious blows but all in all never showed any dominance in either round. The knee was an unfortuate event, but after seeing this video..it all almost makes me sick to my stomach who Cote thinks he is. Inebriated or not, Anderson didnt have a nick on him or even looked like he broke an ounce of sweat. I think he deserves a rematch, not because he deserves to go for the title...it should be a non title grudge match....so Anderson can finish the job he was supposed to do on Saturday night. Cote maybe able to survive 3 rounds, but it takes alot more to beat someone and win those rounds. Cote went frying crying in pain and embarrassment to being 180 degrees downright cocky. Good luck finding a worthy match on a main card, youre probably going to be demoted to undercard status now
It screwed up my saturday night going to either spybar or crobar to see these two guys after their little show they put on......who would go after the negative vibe that probably carried among us chicago fans into the wee hours.
Disappointed Chicago fan
mayhem420 Says:
*Yawwwn* Sorry there was an MMA fight this weekend? lol
I thought we were watching some sort of fucked up boxing match.
Anderson is bored... he needs to move up to 205 to get a real fight.
To think his next title defense is going to be vs Henderson/Franklin or Bisping is a joke. As much as I like Hendo and Rich neither of those guys came close to beating him and Bisping is not even in his league....
I would rather see Anderson vacate the MW title and move up to LHW and fight guys like Rampage, Forrest or even Chuck.
Also whats with everyone saying he is going to fight GSP?
Dude dont look past BJ... who I think is going to beat GSP.
Scott Says:
Silva was visibly bored and was really trying to draw some attention to the fight. Cote would not engage him. Cote may have a tough chin, but Silva didn't throw his best by any stretch of the imagination.
disappointed chicago fan Says:
I say they pay the chicago crowd back with this co-main event:
Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra
Anderson Silva vs. Chuck Liddell
and
Sean Sherk vs. Tyson Griffin 2
I think I can live paying money to see that.....how about it dana?
Jeepman Says:
anyone who thinks that Silva was thrown off his gameplan by Cote,or anything that he did during the fight,is crazy...plain and simple.
Silva looked as though he was trying to make that fight at least 'interesting' for the fans, which he was doing, until Cote's knee popped like corn....
for Cote to even imply that he 'fucked him (Silva) up' is straight up silly, and says alot about Cote's character....
REMATCH please...
Vrax Says:
@Mayhem420: Sure, maybe Penn wins against Georges, I would still want to see GSP and Anderson fight, wouldn't you?
Justin Says:
Please NO REMATCH... 1 of 2 things will happen... He'll be bored and do the same shit, or he'll go off and murder him in 10 seconds like he did James Irvin. The latter is the most exciting but I kind of want to see somebody challenge him. Bisping and then some super fights and let him go.
TUF Guy Says:
The best fight of the night was me kicking the crap out of two drunk dudes at a club after the fight. I pretty much dozed off during the event, wishing that the douchebags from this and other forums who promised to come to my section and row (which I posted numerous times) to beat my ass. It didn't happen. They probably saw me sitting there with 2 girls at each side and just turned around, cause who wants to get knocked silly like a schoolgirl in front of a bunch of ladies?
Either way, I wish the guys that 'promised' me that they'll kick my ass would explain themselves now. I would love to hear the excuses. Pathetic.
I have proven that you guys are ALL keyboard warriors. I made my point. I am greater than anyone on here point blank period!
Quit overthinking it Says:
Anderson is a counter-striker. Look at his UFC fights--he let's his opponent come to him, and then destroys him.
Anderson was patiently waiting for Cote to fight like a man, so he could destroy him like a man. Instead, Cote fought like a French Canadian. Which is to say, not at all. So Anderson wouldn't do anything. I'm guessing this would have changed, as in the 3rd round, Anderson took the lead. Cote's meniscus, sensing danger, fell on a grenade for the team.
**For the record, GSP, despite his alleged heritage, is not a French Canadian. He's from some other planet. Hence, my stereotype holds.
TUF Guy Says:
Silva was high or something. Looked completly retarded out there. He didn't do ANYTHING besides one knee strike which didn't phase Cote at all. Cote would have won if his knee didn't give out.
Agentofthebat Says:
Silva sucks.
He's had some good knock out against chump opponents, but all in all, he's nothing special. I could be the pound for pound best fighter in the world if you served me up washed up fighter after noob fighter for two years.
And he showed it this saturday. Boring ass fight.
snowman Says:
Cote is not rated highly. The UFC's middleweight division is just that bad and the UFC wasn't willing to do to Henderson and Franklin what it did with Ken Shamrock (though to be fair there would be a lot less shame in losing three times to Silva than losing three times to Ortiz). As for Saturday's fight, Anderson Silva's Kalib Starnes impression was almost bang on the money through the entire first round and wasn't much better the second round. You can accuse Cote of not engaging Silva all you want but the bottom line is that he was still the one pushing the action (hey, everything is relative) for 90% of that fight. Besides, who the fuck wants to engage Silva after watching his demolition of his last seven opponents? That fight showed that Silva respected Cote's knockout power. Unfortunately for the fans he respected it a little too much.
I demand a drug test Says:
Cote has to be smoking some of the best stuff in the world if he thinks he f'd up silva bad. He barely did anything and the only reason he lasted 3 rounds was because Silva didn't need to / or force himself to press the action. I still have it as silva was up the first 2 rounds regardless of what all the nuthuggers are saying.
Nobama Says:
"TUF Guy", you sound just like Cote does in this video...lol - idiot.
Dojunim Says:
Silva was sparring (not fighting), like I do with my students.
Silva never felt threatened. I'm pretty sure he would turn it up a notch or two if he did. Exactly like we do with students. The excessive bowing and lending a hand to stand up was the evidence.
Cote is just not in the same league as Silva.
POOKYSDABOMB Says:
I THINK THAT IT SHOWED HE WAS SCARED TO EXCHANGE...REMATCH...THAT WAS NOT A REAL WIN
Tuffer Guy Says:
@ TUF Guy - I went DIRECTLY to the row and seat you said you would be in on Saturday night and Criss Angel was sitting there. Coincidence? ...He did have a couple chicks sitting on either side of him, though...
UFC fan Says:
My vote goes to douchey-showoff.
Jay Says:
Anderson went Genki Sudo on Cote. I think if anything, Anderson Silva beat himself and so did Patrick Cote. Double KO in my opinion.

· All I can say is what a “Hero”…………more like, what an a$$clown. A martial artist does not need to show his expertise by vowing to kick everyone’s ass, true understanding of martial arts is just the knowledge of one’s own abilities.
TUF Guy, it is people like you that give martial arts in general a bad name.
Jeff Says:
Please Dana, don't waste our time and money with a rematch.
Put Cote up against Leben, that's a fight that wouldn't suck.
If the Anderson Silva we saw saturday night was fighting Dan Henderson, we'd have a new champion. Hendo is gonna take that belt if he gets another chance.
Also, how about the UFC sign Cung Le!?!?!??! Isn't he a free agent, or did strikeforce manage to stay in business? If Silva retires without fighting Cung Le, I'll be let down.
And lastly..... HELPING ANOTHER FIGHTER UP? Are you fucking serious Anderson? How about diving in and punching him in the face? DId you forget that was allowed? You are not even close to my top 20 favorites anymore, in fact you're on the fast track to becoming despised.
Alves is the next Champ. Love ya Georges, but it's a done deal.
Jeeves Says:
Here is my problem. . . If Cote blew his knee in the second, and finished the round as he claimed - What was he doing bouncing around like an idiot on the one foot? I mean, he took 2 or 3 steps on the one leg right before it went out.
What was he thinking? I know I would be thinking, 'Maybe I shouldn't put too much weight on it'
mayhem420 Says:
@Vrax
I would love to see those 2 fight (Anderson vs GSP)
I just dont understand how it seems most people are looking past GSP/Penn 2
If GSP loses to Penn than that fight would lose some of its luster.
I think that Anderson has more options at LHW right now than to wait for GSP...

so being a pure counter-striker, which is what anderson is, i.e. he refuses to throw a punch until one is thrown at him. Is being more of a "man" than Cote was. Some fucked up logic there. Cote, while I don't believe he had a snowball's chance in hell of winning, was nonetheless fighting silva just as he needs to be fought, just out of arms reach, just as silva himself fights. At any rate, silva should stop being a wuss and fight at his real weight class (at least 205). Imagine Kendall Grove with skill and muscles, it's just not fair against midgets like Rich Franklin.
lickmyfart Says:
Nobody else notices that Cote is drunk off his ass during this interview?? Too much wine frenchy? I would also drink heavily after that kind of bad luck.
