UFC 91 Bonuses + Videos

Last night's UFC 91 transcended its humble lineup and turned out to be a memorably action-packed night of fights, with eight dramatic stoppages and one 15-minute war, which featured Jorge Gurgel once again brawling instead of playing to his strengths. Who knows how many losses it'll take for him to learn his lesson — Gurgel is now 3-4 in the UFC, with all but one fight going to decision — but the UFC will be rewarding the bad behavior with a $60,000 pay bump. Gurgel and Aaron Riley picked up the Fight of the Night bonus for their wild kickboxing match, which ended in a unanimous D for Riley.
Jeremy Stephens took home the $60k Knockout of the Night bonus for his skull-shattering uppercut of Rafael dos Anjos in the third round of their fight. While there were only two stoppages by strikes to choose from (Gabriel Gonzaga was responsible for the other one), UFC 91 featured five fights ending in submission, and though Kenny Florian and Demian Maia's rear-naked chokes of Joe Stevenson and Nate Quarry were just as impressive, the UFC awarded Dustin Hazelett the Submission of the Night windfall for his oma-into-armbar pretzelage of poor Tamdan McCrory. Awesome fights exceeded all expectations! How did beating Joe Stevenson leapfrog KenFlo ahead of Sean Sherk? Sherk is the last one to hold the belt. Sherk is also the one who defeated kenflo in his only title fight so far. Seems it would make sense for Kenflo to have to go through Sherk especially with Sherk's fight of the Night last outing!

I was totally impressed by the fights on this card. I thought that the whole thing was going to be ass, but all of the fights were very entertaining.
I never thought that I would be saying this.. but Kenny Florian REALLY needs a title shot. He destroyed Joe Stevenson and is the only 155ver that will even go a couple of rounds with BJ Penn. BJ would smash him in the end, but if would be a good fight. I just want to see somebody shut Ken-flo up.
I was really sad to see Randy lose but at least Lesnar wasn't that cocky about his win. That should win him some fans. He isn;t going to be champ for long because Big Nog is going to whoop Frank Mir and the Submit Lesnar in the first round. I say this because good Submission defense comes from patience, experience and the ability to train with guys who are near the skill level of your opponent. Brock Lesnar has no way to beat Big Nog. There are few BJJ practitioners that can Mimic him and Lesnar just does not have the experience to defend against all of Big Nog's angles.

I agree with KFlo being #1 contendor, but how was his performance last night so impressive? Joe gift wrapped him that RNC. You dont defend a RNC by standing up and holding onto the cage with both hands. That was the worst defense of the RNC I've ever seen.

couture wanted that fight with lesnar,in no way did he get screwed maybe lesnar didnt earn the title shot yet but couture saw him as a challange compared to the rest of the heavyweights he could have faced. plus lesnar is a big draw cause all the wwe tools order the ppv that he is headlining

What's frustrating about Gurgel is that two of his students (Hazlett and Brown) both used their jits (that was taught by Jorge) to win their fights. They knew where their strengths were and they used them to victory. To quote KenFlo, "It's time to kill the master." Although, it seems like Gurgel's doing a good job of doing that to himself.

Jorge Gurgel put on an outstanding, exciting fight with Riley and I'd gladly see him fight again, whether he continues using his standup or BJJ. Gotta give him props. He and Riley contributed greatly to the card. And Gurgel is still more talented and well-respected than beer-gut "K.E.G" will ever be. Bravo on the fight. The best card I've seen yet. Gurgel should get nothing but respect. He is a BJJ stud but he challenges himself to improve his striking. Who else would have the balls to work it out on a stage as big as the UFC. He lets it all go and win or lose if he fights like a madman, the UFC will always welcome him back. Once he gets his striking even more finely tuned he will be unbeatable because he can then incorporate his world class BJJ. How can you hate on a guy who just warred like that? jorge gurgel got triangle choked by cole miller last time he took the fight to the ground ,and riley was probably better on the ground than gurgel .jorge couldnt even pass alvin robinsons guard in their fight and then he wound up on his back with alvin in his guard and got pummeled for 2 rounds ,he doesnt look like hes gotta dangerous guard or good passing techniques id say gurgels ground game is over rated hes got a good chin and at best is average at everything else .never been a big fan of the guy he kinda seems like a homo i hope ufc lets him go .
