Videos: The Matt Lindland Story, UFC Stars Shot for ESPN + More
Above is the trailer for Fighting Politics, a new documentary about Matt Lindland's path from collegiate wrestler to mixed martial artist, his questionable dismissal from the UFC over an unapproved sponsor, and his life's second act as a politician in his home state of Oregon. Notable MMA journalists Loretta Hunt and Josh Gross appear in interviews, suggesting that Lindland was actually fired to make room for poster-boy Rich Franklin as middleweight champion, while Keith Evans (formerly of the UFC and IFL) says "Dana White is not the same guy that I knew back then." The release date is still TBA, but I think it's safe to say that Dana won't be there on opening night.
Speaking of the Baldfather, Dana White was recently shot for ESPN: The Magazine, along with everyone's favorite Octagon Girl Arianny Celeste and fighters Randy Couture, Forrest Griffin, and Stephan Bonnar. Watch as the ESPN photo editor becomes visibly freaked out by Randy's ear, Stephan is brought in just so Arianny can have something to sit on, and Dana has to keep his t-shirt on while entering the pool. I wonder if that documentary discusses how boring Matt Lindland is to watch. Matt's a good fighter but many fans (including myself) would groan if the UFC signed him.
I don't necessarily want to see the best fighters - I just want to see great fights.

I agree that Lindland is currently overrated. He was the shit back when he got canned for being an idiot. He was not fired to "make room" for Franklin. He was fired for disobeying his boss.

Yea man he blew out his knee and had to have get surgery to fix it.
He is fighting for the first time since he beat Eric Schafer back in Oct 2007. He is fighting Jon Jones so it should be a good fight. His fight in on the GSP vs Penn card.
Actually excitied to see him back. He's a good fighter that can give anyone a tuff fight.
Matt was also let go by the UFC for being a douche and not to make room for anyone.
Lindland is over rated and would lose to Rich Franklin in a fight.

He came into the fight out of shape and has not looked exciting in any fight in the UFC.
He lost to AA in the most boring fight ever and beat Vera in a questionable stoppage.
So the UFC told him he needed to take a paycut. He said no so they said good bye.
Besides Lesnar already had his shot before this went down.
So I would say no the UFC did not get rid of him to make room for Lesnar.

That open weight Grand Prix was both awesome and a total joke. I'm glad that highlight devoted so much time to the Aleks vs. Barnett fight, as it was one of the best of the GP. However, the favoritism shown to CroCop was infuriating.
Barnett's road to the final: Nakamura (LHW), Aleks (HW), Hunt (HW), Big Nog (HW).
CroCop's road to the final: Minowa (unranked LHW), Yoshida (LHW), Wandy (LHW).
CroCop had previously lost to Hunt and Big Nog so how he got through without facing either for a rematch was baffling. Furthermore, having one HW fighter fight 3 HWs and one ranked LWH and another HW fighter fight nothing but LWH include one that it unranked is even more baffling.

If Lindland was in the UFCE he would be able to give Silva a decent run for the belt.
