Reminder: Watch the UFC 149 Press Conference from Calgary, Alberta, Canada Live Right Here at 2:00 p.m. ET

(“We may even have Justin Bieber at the show as a special guest.”)

Just a friendly reminder that the UFC is holding an impromptu press conference today in Calgary, Alberta to announce its next Canadian show and that we’ll have the live stream starting at 2:00 p.m. ET. On hand for the open event will be UFC president Dana White, director of Canadian operations Tom Wright and Alberta-based fighters Mitch Clarke, Jason MacDonald and Nick Ring.

It’s expected that the main event for the July 21 show, which will be announced as UFC 149, will be a featherweight championship bout between 145-pound kingpin Jose Aldo (21-1) and former TKO, Shooto and Sengoku champ Hatsu Hioki (26-4-2), however an announcement will likely not happen at today’s presser.

In related news, a Canadian senator introduced a bill into Parliament yesterday that would see MMA legalized nationwide. Section 83 of the Canadian Criminal Code as it currently stands deems prizefighting illegal, which is why some provinces and territories have been reluctant to allow events in their jurisdiction in spite of the fact that others have amended the rules due to different interpretations of the archaic law.

Booking Roundup: McCall/Johnson Rematch Set for UFC on FX 3 in June & More

(As Mighty Mouse looked into the crowd to see his wife flirting with another man, a deep seated rage began to boil inside him.)

After a judging error in the UFC’s first ever flyweight match between Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall robbed us of a much needed sudden death fourth round at UFC on FX 2: Kampmann vs. Alves, many of us took it as a sign that the 125 lb. division was ultimately doomed to fail. Perhaps that was a bit of an overreaction, but now we can all rest at ease, because the rematch between these two scrappy contenders has officially been booked for UFC on FX 3, which goes down on June 8th from a location TBD.

Now, we here at CP understand more than anyone that mistakes can happen, but for fuck’s sake, someone please assign a judge who can count to 30 this time around. As we’ve all griped over, the first meeting between McCall and Johnson was originally scored a split decison victory for “Mighty Mouse.” Considering how badly he was dominated by “Uncle Creepy” in the third round, this decision seemed as if it was destined to go down as one of the worst robberies in the history of the sport. Again, maybe we were overreacting, but thankfully, the error was quickly overturned, and the fight was declared a draw. Its good to know that we can now move past this debacle in as timely a manner as possible, lest we end up with a Strikeforce Heavyweight tournament situation again.

Pancrase Fighter Scores Soccer-Kick KO, Freaks Out, Continues to Beat Opponent’s Ass [VIDEO]

(“I see no problem with this.” — Rousimar Palhares)

Perhaps in an ill-advised tribute to Kid Yamamoto, bantamweight veteran Seiya Kawahara went full you-know-what at Pancrase Progress Tour 3 on March 11th, utterly destroying Yuta Numakura with punches and soccer kicks in the first round, then continuing his attack when the referee — then several cornermen — attempted to restrain him. Nightmare of Battle explains what happened next:

No fight money, dropped off the Pancrase rankings, fight overturned to a no contest, and can’t compete in Pancrase pro or amateur events for 50 days. After losing the title fight with Manabu Inoue last year he has had trouble with injuries and this was his first fight in 10 months so I believe he got a little overexcited. His management said that this won’t happen again.

Yikes. I’d hate to see how Kawahara would act on a blind date after a long dry-spell. Check out the carnage after the jump…

Video Proof That Justin Bieber Has Made a Fist at Least Once in His Life

(“Hit it? How about I just dance around it and lip-sync?”)

I don’t know why people feel the need to constantly lump Justin Bieber in with the sport of MMA, but even if you can’t stand the pigeon-chested pubescent Canadian, his latest fighting-related project may not be so bad.

Video of the Day: Cung Le and JCVD Star in ‘Dragon Eyes’ [TRAILER]

(Van Damme was convinced that the man before him was in fact Cung Le, no matter how much he pleaded that he was “just the delivery guy.”)

Somewhere in between having his nose turned into delicious mashed potatoes by Wanderlei Silva at UFC 139 and accepting a match with Rich Franklin at UFC 148, it looks like Cung Le managed to squeeze in another movie to add to his list of credentials that includes such films as Fighting, Pandorum, and Tekken. Being the only one of the above titles I have seen, I can honestly say that Pandorum wasn’t half bad, and neither was Le in it. That’s more than anyone say for Rampage Jackson’s film career thus far.

In any case, Le’s newest entry is called Dragon Eyes, and despite it’s ridiculously cliche title, it looks like it could actually be a pretty damn entertaining flick. Co-starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Peter Weller, and JCVD film veteran Kristopher Van Varenberg, Dragon Eyes hits stores on April 9th.

Oklahoma Bans MMA: The Time to Riot is Now

(We hear you there, bro.)

In a move that is sure to upset hundreds of thousands of dozens of people, the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission, and specifically its Executive Director Joe Miller, recently issued the following statement to promoters statewide that has more or less banned MMA from the land of fried okra:

The purpose of this letter is to inform you the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission will not be accepting applications for event permits for events scheduled after March 31, 2012. The Commission is faced with an out-of-state threat that, if successful, could greatly affect the Commission’s ability to provide for the public safety and for the health and safety of the athletes for future events throughout the state of Oklahoma. The Commission is currently trying to address legal and legislative efforts which have given us serious concerns about how we move forward with adequate oversight of Oklahoma’s boxing, mixed martial arts, and professional wrestling events. As you know, the primary focus of this agency is to make sure the athlete’s health, and safety is not compromised. We take this charge very seriously. The Commission and I will be working diligently to address these issues and develop a plan of action to return to a normal course of business.

Now why, pray tell, do you think Oklahoma would do this to us? Here’s a hint: Dana M.F. White.

In Case You Were Wondering, LMFAO’s Love Affair With The Reem is Still Going Strong

(A few months ago this woman would have gotten face-pushed.)

We’re not exactly sure why, but that terrible dance music-making duo made up of  Berry Gordy’s relatives, LMFAO, sure do seem to love Alistair Overeem. The former Strikeforce, K-1 and DREAM heavyweight champion made his second consecutive cameo in the group’s most recent music video for Sorry for Party Rockin’. Maybe Alistair will be the Captain Lou Albano to their Cindy Lauper.
