Cris Cyborg’s doctor won’t allow cut down to Bantamweight; UFC future in limbo

Former Strikeforce Women’s 145 lb. champion Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos has been in a verbal war with Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey for some months now. When news broke last week that Rousey would be making her way to the UFC along with Miesha Tate, it appeared the window for a Rousey-Cyborg superfight was opened up. Unfortunately, news comes today that Santos’ heart doctor has medically disapproved her making the cut down to 135 lbs. With dire risks associated with the weight cut, Cyborg remains in

Junior dos Santos officially inks Nike sponsorship deal

News that had been swirling earlier has apparently been confirmed by Brazilian site SporTV, as UFC Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos has officially become sponsored by US-based sports apparel giant Nike. The deal will make JDS a member of a very select group of which fellow UFC champions Anderson Silva and Jon Jones are a part of. It also shows the amount of belief Nike has in MMA and will mark a huge step towards the advancement of the sport. Brazil is an area where MMA is absolutely booming right

Mike Pierce: Nick Diaz is ‘entertaining like Honey Boo-Boo’

UFC Welterweight Mike Pierce is a man that gets little to no publicity in the stacked 170 lb. division. However, he is a fighter who never seems to go away and puts on close battles each time out to the Octagon. Many MMA fans were salivating when they heard that Takanori Gomi was coming to the octagon.  Six fights into his tenure, and most of those same fans are looking less optimistic than they were before.  At three wins and three losses apiece, many have written off Gomi as just another promising fighter playing gatekeeper at 155 pounds.  All of his losses (Kenny Florian, Clay Guida, Nate Diaz) have been by submission, and these losses were, for the most part, very one-sided.  See

‘El Nino’ Gilbert Melendez is headed to the Octagon

Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez has been on a mission to prove himself the best Lightweight fighter in all of Mixed Martial Arts.  With the exception of veteran warrior Pat Healy, Melendez has essentially cleaned out the Strikeforce Lightweight Division.  In his last 7 fights, Josh Thomson has been the only one to defeat Melendez (unanimous decision), and Melendez has already gotten his win back twice, the first being a barn-burner of a fight at Strikeforce: Evolution, and the second being

Frankie Edgar: I’m going to push the pace at Jose Aldo

Heading into his Featherweight title bout with Jose Aldo at UFC 156, former Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar expects a full-on war with the famed Brazilian striker. However, that’s not going to change his mindset or gameplan in any way, because wars are what he’s become quite accustomed to over the last few years. Edgar knows he will have to take the fight to Aldo, and he addressed this belief in an interview recent interview with MMAFightcorner:“It’s tough to really put any chinks in any of these
