Interview: UFC Champ TJ Dillashaw “Could Absolutely Take Ronda Rousey”

(via Getty.)

Team Alpha Male’s TJ Dillashaw has had perhaps one of the quickest and most unexpected rises to greatness in the sport’s history. In just over a year, he has gone from the guy that P4P king Renan Barao was going to eat for lunch to the UFC’s reigning bantamweight champion and a top pound-for-pounder in his own right. On the heels of a vicious shellacking of Barao in their UFC on FOX 16 rematch, there’s really only one challenge left for Dillashaw to face: Women’s Bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey.

Yep, we’re talking man vs. woman fights again, it seems.

Dillashaw recently sat down with our partners at MadeMan for a lengthy interview, dishing on everything from how to get six-pack abs how he would take down a heavyweight in a street fight. Of course, with Ronda Rousey being the talk of the town these days, Dillashaw was eventually asked how he’d see himself fairing in a hypothetical fight against “Rowdy.” His answer was about as good as you could hope for.

It wouldn’t be much of a fight?
Umm… of course. I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt. But it’s one of those things where I’m going to be the bad guy no matter what if it happens. You know? I’d be an asshole for knocking her out or I’d be looked down upon for losing. So it’s a lose-lose situation, but yeah, I mean, I definitely see myself winning that fight very, in my mind, easily.

Yeah, but could he do it while sporting an evening gown and six inch heels? These are the kind of questions we should really be devoting numerous articles to, Nation.

Head over to MadeMan for the entire interview.

Conor McGregor and Urijah Faber Combine For the Greatest UFC Tonight Interview Ever [Video]

(The gang engages in a rousing game of Fuck, Marry, Kill: Dana White, Ronda Rousey, and Bigfoot Silva)

I may not having been putting much faith into the 22nd season of The Ultimate Fighter, because, you know, it’s the 22nd goddamn season of The Ultimate Fighter (Unofficial tagline: “Where not even the coaches fight, because whatever, fuck you.”), but after seeing Conor McGregor and Urijah Faber‘s amazing interview on last night’s edition of UFC Tonight, I might just have to see how this season plays out. It’s a testament to both the salesmanship of McGregor and the unflappable likeability of Faber.

For close to 15 minutes, the two coaches playfully bickered about everything from pay-per-view numbers to whether or not TJ Dillashaw is a “snake in the grass,” all while hosts Kenny Florian and Brian Stann tried to contain their laughter and occasionally chimed in. But what separated this interview from most was the near complete lack of malice between the two — perhaps because they aren’t actually scheduled to fight anytime soon. It was like watching two old friends argue about who was the better high school athlete, in that you could sense a mutual respect underneath it all (despite McGregor’s early assertion that Faber was “harmless”). Even when McGregor was aiming his best zingers at the members of Team Alpha Male, Faber never rose above the level of “slight amusement.”

VIDEO: WMMA Fighter Monique Bastos Chokes Out Would-Be Mugger

Reason #1001 Not to Rob *Anyone* in Brazil: If they aren’t ready to lay you out with a 2×4, chances are they know Jiu-Jitsu.

It seems like fairly obvious advice, but it’s something I bet Wesley Sousa de Araujo (aka the desperate sumbitch in the video above) wish had known before he and a friend attempted to steal strawweight fighter Monique Bastos‘ phone on her way to Jiu-Jitsu class Tuesday night.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Officially Retires From MMA, Accepts UFC Position as “Athlete Relations Ambassador”

(No, Antonio, we salute YOU. via Getty.)

Following a heartbreaking two-year stretch that saw him submitted by Fabricio Werdum, KO’d by Roy Nelson, and outpointed by Stefan Struve, Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira has finally decided to end to his legendary 17 year career.

Said the man himself (via MMAFighting):

I have mixed feelings. I’m sad for leaving but happy with this new job in the UFC. I remember when I met [Junior dos Santos], he was brave in training, and before his UFC debut against the current champion Fabricio Werdum, I told Dana White to watch for his uppercut. And that’s how he beat him. I have good eyes for new talent, and I will look for new talents in this new generation.

The First SFW Trailer for Ronda ArouseMe: Grounded and Pounded Has Arrived

Having just finished watching the first trailer for Burning Angel’s much talked-about Ronda Rousey porn parody, Ronda ArouseMe: Grounded and Pounded, I am irate, Nation. Not because it contains absolutely zero nudity, and not because of any personal bias I have against star Kleio Valentien since she slapped that restraining order on me, but because my long and detailed list of spot-on casting suggestions for the project was completely, inexplicably ignored.

It’s as if ArouseMe director Joanna Angel didn’t appreciate or even take notice of the countless hours I clearly spent researching and drafting up that list, requiring no less than three recuperative naps in the process. Did they think I was only after a few extra clicks on a once mid-tier MMA blog, and not auditioning for a position in the multi-billion dollar industry that is porn casting? This was supposed to be *my* moment, god dammit! This was my chance to be a somebody!! (*kicks can*)

All that said, I’m sure there are a handful of you who’d still like to see the trailer for Ronda ArouseMe regardless of the fact that it took a steaming dump on my dreams, so check it out after the jump.

Edgar vs Mendes (!), Dos Santos vs. Overeem (!!) Locked In For TUF 22 Finale, UFC on FOX 17

(What could’ve been, now finally is. via Sherdog)

It may have taken two extra years, a failed drug test, and a series of tough, tough losses on both sides of the equation, but it looks like we will finally be seeing Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem throw down after all.

The announcement came via the UFC last night:

It’s the most heated rivalry in the heavyweight division today, and on Saturday, Dec. 19, Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem settle the score in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night at Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

In the FOX-televised card’s main event, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone challenges for a UFC title for the first time when he battles lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in a highly-anticipated rematch.

That’s right, not only are we getting Ubereem vs. JDS, but we’re getting it on a card that is already ridiculously stacked, and FO FREE. Get hype, Nation.

Nate Diaz Returns, Faces Michael Johnson at UFC on FOX 17 (and Other UFC on FOX 17 Fight Bookings)

(Oh gee, you think, Wikipedia?!)

On the heels of a technical draw with Khabib Nurmagomedov’s crew in the WSOF lobby, it appears that Nate Diaz is once again ready to do some fighting *inside* the octagon. You know, for money this time, because apparently the royalty checks he’s collecting for being the first guy to use the middle finger as a taunt aren’t quite cutting it.

A little over a year removed from his last actual in-ring confrontation (a one-sided decision loss to Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC on FOX 13), Diaz will return to the octagon at UFC on FOX 17 in December, facing rising contender turned recent robbery victim Michael Johnson.

Fight Night 74 Highlights/Results: Oliveira Tears His Esophagus, Perez Retires, Cote & Burkman Go to War + More

Fight Night 74 was a night full of surprises, and that’s not just referring to the fact that seven underdogs came out victorious on Sunday night, or the fact that the highly-anticipated main event ended before it ever got started. No, the biggest shock of the night came in the form of 26-year old Frankie Perez, who followed up an impressive (if not necessarily surprising) KO of Sam Stout by retiring in the ring. Check out the video above.

“I train with the best team on the planet” said Perez, “I have the utmost confidence to beat anybody in this division. (But) me being 26, this is my first win in the UFC and my last. I’m done after this. I’ve brought my dreams to come true and I’m on to the next chapter in my life. I’m done putting my family and my body through all this.”

It was an incredibly honorable moment for Perez, which could only mean that one of the UFC’s analysts for the evening, Michael Bisping, could only lob insults aimed Perez’s “cajones” when discussing it with Dominick Cruz in the studio afterward. Thankfully, Cruz set the record straight by both lauding Perez’s discipline and shitting on Bisping’s gatekeeper status/lack of two functional eyes.

Check out the complete list of Fight Night 74 results (with highlights) after the jump.
