Just heard that construction on the Abu Dhabi UFC Stadium has started….

…and now it’s finished. Amazing what you can do when you have unlimited amounts of money to throw around.

I’m in the construction business and my city just built a new stadium that will be hosting the Super Bowl in 2012. Construction took almost 3 years. Design & Engineering before the construction took probably at least a year if not more. There will not be a new stadium finished for an April event in Abu Dhabi unless it’s something like an outdoor concert arena with just a roof and no walls. Mark my words. Even a small stadium would take too long to design and complete.

Silva won’t play ‘The Matrix’ with Vitor the way he did with Forest, that’s for sure.
The Franklin/Belfort didn’t exactly pop off as a gong and dash slugfest, so maybe Vitor has a little more patience than in the early part of his career.

I won’t bet against the Spider, but I think (hope) this will be a real challenge for him, and the Vitor fanboy in me will be hoping for the upset. This is the first card as of late that I’m completely stoked for.

Franklin did look weird and Vitor is political pick #1, I think Marquardt should have gone first. Vitor is great with all he has been through and done in MMA, but as someone had stated before, when the fights does go his way at the begining(Randy Couture, Fucko Ortiz etc) he starts to lose. I think the fight has the potential to be good, but it may be a dare I say “typical?” Silva title defense fight.

Vitor only got a shot so quickly because Dana didn’t want him getting exposed before Anderson could do it. Don’t get me wrong I like Vitor allot and hope he does well and continues fighting in the UFC for a long time. But I don’t think wins over Terry Martin and Matt Lindland warrant this kind of faith in him. I know he beat Franklin as well but I think that fight would end differently if Franklin was at a set weight with some clear goals, he was obviously not in the right state of mind that fight.

Sheikh Khalifa is a BIG BJ Penn fan. I heard they will meet up on the day of the fight and spend the afternoon witnessing executions as a friendly gesture from the Sheikh and then BJ will take him to the fights and let the Sheikh see how he executes people as a friendly gesture in return. This is gold for Dana and his new buddies!

Well not up to American standards anyway…. They’ll just put up some dried mud, a few planks of wood, a few rusty nails, and an aluminum foundation, then presto, you have the Abu Dhabi arena in a month and a half. Problem is when you have 30,000 people in it, as the past has shown, literally, a big crowd of people will fall through the floor.

Dude you could build a house in one day if everything is coordinated correctly and everything arrives on time. I’m sure an arena built in 3 months with all that Indian labor in the UAE would not be a problem.

Mark Munoz is looking good as a fighter now that he’s at Black House. His striking looks crisp and he looks a lot more confident on his feet. It’s a big step up from his fight with Matt Hamill who knocked him out and made his chin hit his knee on the way to the mat. I think a rematch would prove dramatically different results. I say Munoz is someone to watch in 2010.
