Abu Dhabi Update: Vitor Belfort’s Manager Confirms Silva/Belfort; Grove vs. Munoz Rumored

(They’re both Brazilian, and they both like to wear t-shirts and hats. On paper, this one’s impossible to call. Image courtesy of Tatame.)

According to Vitor Belfort’s manager Fabiano Farah, the Phenom will indeed be getting his shot at Anderson Silva‘s middleweight title at UFC 112 (April 10th, Abu Dhabi). Though Silva’s manager Ed Soares wouldn’t confirm the booking yet, he did mention that Silva is training hard and is "very fired up" to face Belfort, who most recently scored a TKO over Rich Franklin at UFC 103

Farah’s confirmation follows the earlier report that Belfort and Silva are slated to train at Emirates Jiu-Jitsu in the days leading up to the fight. Strangely, Emirates Jiu Jitsu head instructor Carlos Santos has also been saying that the fight could be held outdoors: "I told them both they should come early because it will be an outdoor event, not indoors like they are used to, and that many factors and conditions will be different for them." Though that option may have been floated in the early planning stages of UFC 112, Dana White is now under the impression that Sheikh Tahnoon and the gang will be building an arena for him.

In other #112 news, a middleweight match between TUF 3 winner Kendall Grove and Mark Munoz appears to be in the works. Grove is coming off his first-round submission win over Jake Rosholt at UFC 106, while Munoz has won his last two UFC fights against Nick Catone and Ryan Jensen.

They should just use that indoor ski hill, and turn the a/c down a bit.

Just heard that construction on the Abu Dhabi UFC Stadium has started....

...and now it's finished. Amazing what you can do when you have unlimited amounts of money to throw around.

I'm in the construction business and my city just built a new stadium that will be hosting the Super Bowl in 2012. Construction took almost 3 years. Design & Engineering before the construction took probably at least a year if not more. There will not be a new stadium finished for an April event in Abu Dhabi unless it's something like an outdoor concert arena with just a roof and no walls. Mark my words. Even a small stadium would take too long to design and complete.

yea the fact that nate the great isnt getting a shot at silva is bullshit. Vitor beat rich franklin....a rich franklin who looked like shit in that fight and did you see the punch that belfort landed to send franklin to the ground??? he barely clipped him...unfrotunatley i see this one as silva all the way sorry belfort...
Hulk Smash- January 14, 2010 at 7:35 pm
nate marquardt is getting ass reamed on this one. yeah, belfort is a big name and might deserve a title shot someday, maybe even soon, but nobody has earned a shot at silva as much as marquardt and his 10-strike combos.

oh, and kendall grove can eat shit and die a horrible death by prison rape for all i care. that douche started emulating the king of douches himself (tito ortiz) on TUF 3 and hasn't done fuck-all but beat nobodies on the rare occasion that he wins.

check it - he beat kalib starnes and felt all great about himself. think of that when you see nate quarry inventing the 'rock hammer' as he chases starnes around the cage. where is starnes today? nowhere, and he's reserved a spot for grove right beside him.

LOLZ @ CheckHisPee..

Helwani by cleverly veiled insult.

Silva won't play 'The Matrix' with Vitor the way he did with Forest, that's for sure.
The Franklin/Belfort didn't exactly pop off as a gong and dash slugfest, so maybe Vitor has a little more patience than in the early part of his career.

I won't bet against the Spider, but I think (hope) this will be a real challenge for him, and the Vitor fanboy in me will be hoping for the upset. This is the first card as of late that I'm completely stoked for.

Franklin did look weird and Vitor is political pick #1, I think Marquardt should have gone first. Vitor is great with all he has been through and done in MMA, but as someone had stated before, when the fights does go his way at the begining(Randy Couture, Fucko Ortiz etc) he starts to lose. I think the fight has the potential to be good, but it may be a dare I say "typical?" Silva title defense fight.

Vitor only got a shot so quickly because Dana didn't want him getting exposed before Anderson could do it. Don't get me wrong I like Vitor allot and hope he does well and continues fighting in the UFC for a long time. But I don't think wins over Terry Martin and Matt Lindland warrant this kind of faith in him. I know he beat Franklin as well but I think that fight would end differently if Franklin was at a set weight with some clear goals, he was obviously not in the right state of mind that fight.

Sheikh Khalifa is a BIG BJ Penn fan. I heard they will meet up on the day of the fight and spend the afternoon witnessing executions as a friendly gesture from the Sheikh and then BJ will take him to the fights and let the Sheikh see how he executes people as a friendly gesture in return. This is gold for Dana and his new buddies!

Silva is black.

google taught me fluent portuguese.

But I just saw that re-translates back to "Hell, I could even reach the top of my wife."

Which kind of means something different?

Kendall Grove is the 185lb hawaiian Nate Diaz.
CheckHisPee- January 14, 2010 at 1:48 pm
I say give the winner...Ariel Helwani.
831 Son- January 14, 2010 at 1:47 pm
Silva is going to smash Vitor. No one poses a threat to that man besides Fedor.

I hope Munoz wins against Grove too. Just the fact that Kendall's nickname is Da Spyder deserves an ass whoopin.

Diabos, eu poderia até chegar no topo da minha mulher.

They'll probably make the cage out of chicken wire and palm tree trunks.

Better put extra security on the Octagon Girls for this one, if my trip to Egypt was any indication.

@ Art Gibs:

You can when there's no union. And by that I mean slave labour.

Not being subject to any kind of building code or safety regulations also helps a bunch, I bet.
Clyde- January 14, 2010 at 1:42 pm
I think Silva will opt for one of his elusive approaches. Vitor does have a tendency to give up if things aren't going his way for more than 5 minutes.
