ADCC 2009 Quick Results: Estima, Werdum, Ribeiro, “Jacare” Lead Brazilian Sweep

(Braulio Estima vs. Xande Ribeiro in the men’s absolute finals. For more ADCC videos, check out YouTube.com/sourceBJJ.)

The level of Brazilian domination at the 2009 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championship was, as they might say, absolutely hidiculous. Brazilian grapplers swept every single division at the two-day event, which was held Saturday and Sunday at the Palau Municipal d’Esports de Badalona in Barcelona, Spain. Complete results are below; props to MMA Mania.

Yeah I can blame them why would you cut a top 5 HW for getting caught by a one punch? (specially when the divisions allready weak)

"The UFC has lost him as one of the true talents in the heavyweight devision..."

After Werdum's last two showings in the UFC can you blame them for cutting him? He showed up out of shape, won a questionable stoppage in one and was then blitzkrieged by a much more inexperienced dos Santos.

It seems that being cut by the UFC has been what's driven him to improve himself - he looked great in his first Strikeforce fight and smashing everyone at the ADCC is an amazing achievement that maybe would have eluded him if he was still walking around at 260 instead of 230ish.

Hopefully he'll keep up the good work and maybe bring Overeem's arms with him to put next to that ADCC gong sitting on the mantle.

I think the fact that Joel Tudor, a professional surfer, making it to the quarterfinals in his division is pretty awesome. Dude makes a living as a professional surfer, not a mixed martial artist or jitsu guy, and held his own.

That just made my day.

that video was awesome, the sephiroth music really had me going. What a lame ending though, very anti-climatic. I wonder what happened to Xande's arm...its hard to tell. Wish those guys could have gone at it longer.
