Afternoon Video Dump: Irvin vs. Khalidov, Pitbull vs. Karakhanyan + More

(Props: pedrommabjj via Fightlinker)

If you have a morbid interest in seeing how James Irvin‘s last fight against Mamed Khalidov went, well, here you go. I’m not going to throw around the word “work,” but check out how wide and telegraphed Irvin’s punches are, starting at the 0:21 mark — it’s the universal non-verbal sign for “please armbar me so I can collect my paycheck and head to the airport.” And that’s pretty much what happens. Happy now?

After the jump: The brutal finish of Patricio “Pitbull” Freire vs. Georgi Karakhanyan from Saturday’s Bellator show, Junior Dos Santos pulls off a pretty damn respectable “Showtime Kick,” and the gif of Shogun tapping against Jon Jones at the end of their fight at UFC 128, in case you haven’t seen it yet.

Not a work in the Irvin bout you crazies... Mamed would throw his ass around every time they fought (regardless of if Irvin was juicing or not).

Nail in the coffin? Stay clean James.

yeah, I don't get the whole "Pitbull" name thing, I mean there's Piranha, Polar Bear, Rattle Snake, etc. And if you're gonna include the viral life forms, why not just go straight up "Black Death," or even "AIDS?"
And on to Irvin - if that wasn't a fix, that's sad, he was like holding his arms in punching position waiting for the dude to do something.

finally someone is with me with the honey badger thing. I'm getting a tattoo of a honey badger eating a lightning bolt

The Irvin fight was not a work, thats just really how good he his. Also you have to look on the bright side of this Shogun thing. The last time he was coming off a long layoff and surgery he lost to Forrest Griffen. He looked soft and out of shape, it is not outside the realm of possibility that he could have lost to Rashad. Then where would we be? We probably wouldn't be in the position we are now where the likely hood of another awesome Shad punch face is on the horizon. While this is bad for all us Shogun fans it is the best news all of us Rashad haters could have hoped for.

Only BITCHES tap!!!

Shogun looked like a scrub in that fight. Definitely not the same guy who KOed Machida.
macreadysshack- March 21, 2011 at 2:50 pm
Gist, are you saying Shogun is now more likely to become a differently-abled child?
DangadaDang- March 21, 2011 at 2:38 pm
I really hope the moves of Showtime Pettis inspire some kind of MMA/Slamball/Capoeira crossbreed because lets be honest, it'd at worst be better than Tag Team MMA.

On the JDS video, based on the high-pitched laugh, I thought Anderson Silva was recording it. Also, notice he has to jump off the post of the cage, because the fence probably wouldn't support him.
Fried Taco- March 21, 2011 at 2:31 pm
Shogun didn't tap, he was just petting the floor saying "nice floor, thanks for stopping my fall."

I did trademark the "Honey Badger" nickname. I'm waiting for someone to pay me lots of money to use it.

@ danomite - Good point. Although it is ManBearVerine. Not sure beavers are all that crazy tough, not counting Jenna Jameson's well worn labia.
@ macreadysshack - and neither Aleks Emilianenko or Tommy Morrison would have to think too hard on their nicknames if they went that route.

I can feel my liver imploding and my body doing that convulsion spaz out thing it does when I watch that. I want to have my liver either removed or armor plated.

Shogun hung in there like a champ. He lost nothing in my eyes . . . Bones just gained even more respect.

@RwilsonR Yeah, why not use viruses or something? 'eeeeeeee-bo-laaaaa'. I know one thing that kicks my ass every year: 'Raaaaag-weeeeeed pollennn POLLENNNNNNNNN'
GistoftheFist- March 21, 2011 at 1:45 pm
Damn that liver shot was so devastating it knocked the polio vaccine out of Shogun.
danomite- March 21, 2011 at 1:44 pm
Well, I think Manbeaverine is trademarked.
RwilsonR- March 21, 2011 at 1:37 pm
Pitbull, huh? Aren't there other tough animals out there to choose from?
danomite- March 21, 2011 at 1:33 pm
I probably would have tapped to that liver shot too. Actually, I would have thrown up and then tapped.
