Aleksander Emelianenko Returns Tonight for M-1 Challenge

(“Well, it was nice knowing you.” Photo courtesy of M-1 MixFight; props to BloodyElbow for the heads-up.)

M-1 is holding an M-1 Challenge event today in St. Petersburg, Russia, with Team Russia Red Devil taking on Team Korea, and Team Russia Legion facing Team Holland; the full lineup is here. Headlining the team competition will be two “superfights” that reflect the card’s nation vs. nation theme. The Legion/Holland main event will be 1-1 rookie Alexander Timanov vs. Dutch bad-boy Gilbert Yvel, while the Red Devil/Korea feature will be none other than Alexander Emelianenko vs. Spirit MC/DEEP/M-1 vet Sang Soo Lee (10-4). Soo has won four of his five fights this year, including a submission victory over Emelianenko’s Red Devil clubmate Roman Zentsov. The Korean fighter may be a step up in competition from Aleks’s last opponent, but we still think The Grim Reaper should be able to take this one relatively easily. More photos from yesterday’s weigh-ins are after the jump, courtesy of

(Come on, guys. You’re better than this.)

That's a shame; Aleks is a good technical striker, something US fans haven't seen in their respective Heavyweight divisions for a while.

He has yet to do any further testing and has not disputed his licensing. What do you think that tells you genius. I'm almost certain, you won't get anyone that will want to fight him here in the U.S. even if he could get a license. Cleary a d1ckwad, but thanks for giving me something to do.

SUCK IT POOSAY!!! Aleksander Emelianenko, the younger brother of WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko and an established MMA heavyweight, has tested positive for Hepatitis B according to, confirming earlier rumors that Emelianenko was pulled from Affliction “Banned” on July 19th after testing positive for the virus:

“A source close to the situation…explained that the blood tests came back right before Aleks and Buentello were scheduled to weigh in and that is why there was so much confusion around the stage and why the fighters did not weigh in. Gary Goodridge ended up stepping up on extremely short notice and filling in for the Russian heavyweight.

The tests were positive for Hepatitis B which resulted in the CSAC cancelling the fight.”

Common symptoms of Hepatitis B include liver inflammation and vomiting and, while the virus could potentially be career-ending, approximately 95-percent of those infected with the virus fully recover within months.

Acute hepatitis B infection does not usually require treatment because most adults clear the infection spontaneously.[22] Early antiviral treatment may only be required in fewer than 1% of patients, whose infection takes a very aggressive course ("fulminant hepatitis") or who are immunocompromised. On the other hand, treatment of chronic infection may be necessary to reduce the risk of cirrhosis and liver cancer. Chronically infected individuals with persistently elevated serum alanine aminotransferase, a marker of liver damage, and HBV DNA levels are candidates for therapy.[23]

Although none of the available drugs can clear the infection, they can stop the virus from replicating, and prevent liver damage such as cirrhosis and liver cancer. Treatments include antiviral drugs such as lamivudine, adefovir, tenofovir and entecavir, and immune system modulators such as interferon alpha. However, some individuals are much more likely to respond than others and this might be because of the genotype of the infecting virus or the patient's heredity. The treatment works by reducing the viral load, (the amount of virus particles as measured in the blood), which in turn reduces viral replication in the liver.

>It has been confirmed that he will not be licensed on American soil due to medical reasons, so >he will never fight here.

Nothing has been confirmed shithead.
Its the same rehash from a phrase from some douchebag commissionner.

Show a link to a real confirmation and not to your buttfucking partners or shut the fuck up.

If I were to ever go crazy on go on a murderous rampage, i would start with Gilbert Yvel. I would fly all the way to Holland just to put on in the back of that big ugly head of his. I hate that guy. He is such an asshole. I wish he would be banned from MMA and all other contact sports.
