Alistair Overeem: The Incredible Expanding Man

I don’t want to speculate as to what kind of diet Alistair Overeem has been on, but as Robert from Free Fight Videos points out with this helpful timeline, dude has gotten progressively bigger over the last few years. He dwarfed Badr Hari when they squared off at Fields Dynamite, weighing in at 254.3 lbs for the fight. This is a guy who used to be tall and lanky. Now he’s a mountain of muscle, with a noticeably bulkier face, and the transformation has happened mostly while fighting in Japan. There, I said it.
Just take a look at this video of Overeem’s fight with Chuck Liddell back in 2003. He looks like a beanpole compared with the monster who knocked out Hari. They must have some really excellent weight-gainer shakes in Holland...

The guy is juiced outa his mind! You don't really go from 205 to 255 in only a few years, taking flintstone vitamins.
Dr. Gonzo Says:
it's very easy for someone who is tone like that to put on weight in a couple years. He has stated that he has never been able to do proper strength and conditioning bc of his cut to 205. That's why he has gassed in all his fights. Now that he has determined he will stay at HW, he can let his body naturally progress. Don't forget he was only 22 when he fought Chuck.
But I'm sure there will be more than one fat ass on this sight who hasn't touched a weight in years that is drinking the Haterade and will scream "steroids!!"...
Dr. Gonzo Says:
and he didn't go from 205 to 255, he went from 225 to 255. He always had to cut dramatically
Jimbo Slice Says:
Overeem is the man and has been impressing the hell out of me the last few years. I've always been a huge fan of his since the beginning even when he didn't always do well but lately he's been just kicking the hell out of guys. I really hope some day he goes to the UFC and kicks the shit out of losers like Cheick Kongo. I hope he starts coming out with that giant wooden hammer again. That thing was awesome.
RIfightfan Says:
Apparently he's on the Brock Lesnar diet. His new nickname should be Alistair HGH Overeem. Pathetic....
emo sux Says:
Steroids!!!
TUF Guy Says:
Good for him. That's why he is unstopable now. I just took some roids this morning & I feel awesome, because I am.
PingPong Says:
50 pounds in 5 years = 10 pounds muscle gain per year...which is very doable if you train and eat right like say...a professional athlete.
Plus he has great genetics.
I give him the benefit of the doubt
Biohazardone Says:
WOW, that is impressive....steroids or not, one can put on the muscle weight in five years. There could be steroid use involved but I doubt it. He should be invited to the UFC. He could then kick the shit out of Prick Lesnar.
peace out
Clyde Says:
I'm mostly impressed by Dana White going for almost 5 minutes without saying the word "fuck" in any way, shape or form.
emo sux Says:
Yeah... only he doesnt walk around at 255 unless he is about to do his part in the fight FOR birthcontrol
Farthammer Says:
I love it. As soon as you point out someone has done steroids, you are immediately labeled a "fatass" or "nonathlete" as though that has anything to do with the subject at hand.
Jay Says:
Speculating that a person takes steroids because of a gradual increase in size over 6 years is like accusing Britney Spears of overdosing on men's genetelia to improve her music career. Both individuals have simply found their niche. Alistair is destined to dance as a heavyweight, and Britney is destined to dance as a stripper.
Ryan Says:
FYI:
He weighed in at 224 against Buentello back in November, 2007. He was 242 against Mirko in November 2008. He weighed in at 254 against Hari 3 days ago.
30 lbs in 13 months? And I'm sorry, that's 90% muscle weight, the dude is absolutely shredded. Not to mention, he's NOT a full time bodybuilder, the dude has to constantly train technique and do intensive, crazy cardio. He also fought in June, July, September, and November. Doesn't leave a whole lot of time for bulking.
I don't get what the controversy is about. It's not illegal to roid in Japan; why WOULDN'T a fighter juice?
But whatever, I must be just another out of shape, fat pud wannabe fighter who's jealous of Overeem's work ethic and genetics. Yup.
WilliamShatner Says:
The people who are conspiracy mongers who can wait to throw the steroid card at someone with a muscular build should really get a life. Aren't there other things to occupy your time than accusing people of doing shit with no proof. The person who wrote the article should at least have the stones to accuse him of using steroids instead of just insinuating it. Otherwise leave the topic alone. Which should have been done.
Dave Says:
Every single Overeem defender in these posts is conveniently overlooking the most damning evidence of all, and it's not his physique. It's his face. One of the trademark side-effects of steroid use is cranial swelling, which typically takes the form of a pronounced brow ridge, or "neanderthalism." Look at pictures of HHH if you don't know what I'm talking about.
There is no amount of lifting and/or dietary improvements that cause the same type of malformation to the face and head that Overeem clearly exhibits.
End of discussion.
Anonymous Says:
Dave you carefully made some good points but you also have absolutely no proof whatsoever. Just your own assumptions based on the size of HHH's head. Who gives a fuck. I mean really.
END Of Discussion.
Anonymous Says:
Overeem uses a secret face bulking technique at his secret gym in his garage. Using only his car's battery and some jumper cables he's managed to increase the diameter of his visage by 23%!
Also anyone that mentions "good genetics" in any given sports article clearly has a homosexual attraction to black men.
Anonymous Says:
^^^^
Attributed to the fact that they only use the term to describe black men. The only time I've ever heard the term "good genetics" used for a white guy was Brock Lesnar referring to himself.
Jason Kidd Says:
Explain the size of my kid's head then?
my father gave me that truck u fucking wrestler Says:
you can take all the roids you can but when i shank you in the spleen you will die in yr own piss. you think am gona stand by the side lines and watch people like brock and overem poison my sport with yr steriod using buttock injecting bullshit.or are we gona anti up and do something about it yr god dam right we are. this is about decent hardworking mmartists getting the shaft because the ufc carnt be bothered screening for convicted users chuck worked there gracies worked there and now brock works here and dana is making a fucking killing cos he employes juiced up wrestlers.i see this shit going on and i dont see anyone doing anything about it and it fucking pisses me off .people like tuf guy dont come to embrace this sport they come to exploit it.so make a choice this isnt are sport its a fucking battlefield
Anonymous Says:
It's understandable to think that this guy is on the juice i mean you can do the same thing with barry bonds with this guy comparing pictures at the beginning of his career with later i know this theory might be far fetched and a bit of a reach to make a comparison because i'm using to different sports/ athletes but in sports when ever someone transforms like that and there's a huge difference in muscle definition obviously their is going to be speculation of steroids here's my question since Alistair is over in Japan we may never know and this probably hurts whatever chance he has in fighting in the UFC now
Anonymous Says:
^^^^
what the fuck are you talking about? You're asking us to compare the changing head size of an adolescent to a fully grown adult man? I pray for your kid's sake it isn't as retarded as you are.
Anonymous Says:
He's on roids.......cos i said so!!
amad Says:
I think the recent history of athletes lying to the public, being busted outright, of having really good circumstancial cases against them, kills any chance of "having the benefit of the doubt" I think he should come the UFC, because as the rest of PRIDE fighters have shown, once they are subjected to drug testing, they go from invincible to very beatable. Truthfully, other than Rampage, who has been consistantly sucessful in the US from fighting primarily in japan???
fourTwenty Says:
Look at him! Duh.
Kimbo's A Bitch Says:
huck knocked his fng small head off so he went out and bought a bigger one. End of discussion.
Kimbo's A Bitch Says:
Chuck i mean. Not sure who that Huck guy is. Fynn maybe. But I am sure it's not him. Nope, couldn't be.
Anonymous Says:
I lol'd
Anonymous Says:
5 years of training and diet you can put on some serious lbs without juice. that being said he does have meathead traps now which are tough to excuse.
Sweep the Leg Says:
+1 to Amad, Dave, Ryan, and Farthammer. -1000 to whoever says "you don't have any PROOF, you shouldn't make unfounded accusations." Well, if there was "PROOF" then it wouldn't be much of a debate, would it??
This isn't an American criminal court where you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. It's the court of public opinion, and as fans of the sport, we have every right to openly question and give our speculative opinions about the subject. The fact that the Japanese conveniently bury their heads in the sand to the pink-elephant-in-the-room of PED use among athletes, and the fact that Overeem never fights outside of Japan, only adds more suspicion. Like Ryan said, 30 pounds (of nothing but muscle) in 13 months on a guy who probably has consistently maintained 3-8% body fat, all while fighting in an organization/country that doesn't test for PED's, is pretty blatant.
If you're not even the slightest bit suspicious about Overeem, then I guess you probably would have drafted Tony Mandarich in the first round, too.
Hermit Says:
Amad: you think rampage is the only guy who has moved from Pride to do well in the UFC? You should check out this guy named Anderson Silva.
Turbo Says:
it's shameful to imply that the Demolition Man is juiced, just because he looks like he ate Arnold Schwarzenegger... i happen to know his protein shakes are 100% pureed rhinoceros pituitary gland, which is perfectly legal and ethical in certain cultures...
TUF Guy Says:
I get juiced on the regular and I noticed that the only people that hate on it are hiding behind their computer screens. To this DAY I am yet to be approached by anyone in my gym about roids and how 'unfair' it is that I break every fool that steps in front of me. And I don't even hide it, I shoot up right in the gym in front of everyone. Sometimes I do it right in the Mall in the GNC store if I am feenin it, my connect doesn't like it but he can't do shit about it.
CJ Says:
TUF Guy I hope you never leave CP
Kuato Says:
He'll be attending UFC 93. I personally am excited about the prospect of seeing him in the UFC, and of course there will be drug tests galore. I'm sure people will still claim he's magically on the roids even then, but that won't stop him from knocking out your most favoritest fighter.
Jeffro Says:
TUF Guy drinks his protein shakes straight from the source. I've seen him do it. He never spills a drop.
WAR BONG Says:
badger milk...nuff sed.
NinJay Says:
Ahh beat me to it, Hermit. Yeah who can forget Mr. Anderson Silva.
Very well said, Sweep the Leg. I couldn't put it any better.
I just mentioned how big he looked in the results thread from Dynamite on this very website. Sure i admit it's possible to get the muscles he has without the use of steroids, i just highly doubt he did it that way. His head swelling is the biggest piece of evidence. He just doesn't look right. If the stats Ryan posted are correct then it really doesn't look good for all the overeem appologist because 30lbs of muscle in 13 months with all of the training he needs to go through for fights is pretty unbelievable.
Obviously my opinion is only my opinion but i think he is on some serious enhancements that aren't legal here in the States.
NinJay Says:
Tuff Guy makes me LoL more than anyone on this site.
TUF Guy Says:
Steroids... there G-R-R-R-R-E-A-T !!
(And having a mouthful of uncircumcized cocks)
Bootylam! Says:
What's with all the steroid excusers? Why do they care if he does juice, and I mean why make excuses? They let 'em do it over there, and so what? I like when they come to the UFC and find out about fighting OFF the juice and LOSE! [CroCop] And it's not the muscles that give it away, its the head and face. Normal people's heads don't get bigger or change shape beyond the age about 10. That's why lots of kids look like oranges on toothpicks until their body catches up.
Anonymous Says:
This guys face is fucking huge.
For all you BOTD people (Benifit of the doubt)
Lets just give Bob Sapp the benifit of the doubt too. I mean, maybe he just works really hard in the gym.
Xamot Says:
If you think a fat head and squishy muscles are natural then you are a fucking retard. Watch the newest Rambo movie if you want to see how weird fuckers on steroids look.
Richard Wad Says:
What, is the news so slow you have to fabricate some bullsh...article about this? Your site is superb, so I'll take the junk articles w/ the good ones. But honestly, a professional athlete who trains and lifts at least 3 days and has a goal can certainly put on a good deal of muscle weight. I hate it when weaklings who half-ass commit (or don't even really commit at all) to working out, are so quick to judge people who dedicate themselves to a cause.
Joey Says:
Technically, if the guy is using steroids, he's not doing anything wrong. In Japan that stuff is okay so they allow him to juice all he wants. Hell, he could come right out and admit it, and it wouldn't make a difference. If he came to the UFC, that would be a different story, but for the time being Overeem has found his place in Japan and he can stick whatever he wants into his body.
Anonymous Says:
But I loved the new Rambo movie D:
squirrel master Says:
@ Dr. Gonzo
Please refrain from EVER using the word “Haterade” in CP
NO…..never mind, don’t ever fucking use Haterade!!!!
FUCK!! next thing you know MTV and BET hippies are going to be in this awesome homoerotic website!!!!
Jburg Says:
looks like squirrel master has been chuggin some haterade, yo. time to flake out, dodo.
Goog Says:
Barry Bonds is innocent, too. It's total coincidence that their progressive photos are almost identical.
I'm around roids al the time in my gym. You an spot a guy on them like spotting a bad toupee. If you suspect they are, then they probably are. If it's not unnatural looking, you don't notice. But as soon as you can say "whoa... look at him" and it doesn't seem natural, call shenanigans. This guy is a textbook example. The traps, proportions, bloating of the face... it's there. So you can give him the benefit all you want, but that fucker is on roids. And so what? He hasn't "cheated" because it's not illegal in Japan. Bring him to the UFC and legitimately test him and you'll see him drop some noticeable weight.
Wandy Silva is what a person looks like when they work out HARD. Lean, sculpted, muscular, and believable. Overreem took a shortcut. Congratulations... you've permanently damaged your organs and you'll be washed out in a year or less.
