Alvarez and Lombard Score Championship Gold, Guimaraes Scores KO of the Night at Bellator XII

(Props: youtube.com/BellatorMMA)

Bellator’s inaugural season came to a close on Friday night, with the finals of their middleweight and lightweight brackets. In the 185-pound title fight, Hector Lombard used his striking and ground-and-pound to open up some nasty cuts on the head of his opponent, Jared Hess; the fight was eventually stopped in the fourth round after Hess lost a few gallons of blood. Directly after, 155-pound favorite Eddie Alvarez completed his sweep of the lightweight tourney by knocking Toby Imada out of his jock with a big right hook early in the second round, then sinking in a rear-naked choke. Lombard and Alvarez collected $100,000 checks for their efforts.

In non-tournament action, Jorge Masvidal submitted Eric Reynolds via third-round rear-naked choke, Bodog/ShoXC vet Rosi Sexton submitted Valerie Coolbaugh via first-round armbar, and Stephanie Guimaraes became Bellator’s latest YouTube star with her 49-second knee-knockout of Yvonne Reis. The Guimaraes knockout is above; highlights from the Lombard/Hess and Alvarez/Imada fights are after the jump.

I really enjoyed following the tournament via the Bellator website. Great fights, good production, decent commentating. The tournament style really seemed to motivate the fighters. There were virtually no boring fights. I am already looking forward to the next tourney. Hopefully this time it will be broadcast on English language TV!

Once again watching the fight vids is completely pointless because the results are in the title... why even bother posting the vids?? I give up, spoil away.

ArmFarmer, if you don't like spoilers, watch the vids on MMATKO or Fight Hymn! Quit yer bitchin. Wow, Bellator is the bomb. War Alvarez. Brutal knee, one of the cleanest female KOs I've ever seen.

@ArmFarmer Please stop queering up the post section with all the whining you ignorant slut. Bellator was great this season, I had the pleasure of seeing one event live and followed the rest online. Great action, great fighters, I just hope their business model can stay afloat to keep this thing going.

Honestly I don't really care enough about bellator to bother looking for their fights, that's why I'd rather they just post them here without the spoilers. That way I can see fights I haven't seen without putting any effort whatsoever into finding them. But.. that's just me being lazy as fuck so I guess I shouldn't really complain.

Bellator is awesome. If you can go see it live you need too. I was at Bellator XII and it was so great. Good production. Little lag between fights. And Affordable. They have ticket deals sometimes 2-4-1. So we got really good seats at half the price. Alverez was the shit! Killer right hand made the entire Hard Rock Live crowd jump out of their seats. Also, Hector Lombard FTW!!! American Top Team has another Champ!
