And It’s Official: Starnes Gets Walking Papers

(Yeah, hilarious.)

If you told me six months ago that one day we’d publish three posts involving Kalib Starnes within a seven-hour period, I would have thrown my scotch in your face and damned you as one of Satan’s deceitful minions. And yet here we are…

As we all knew he would, Kalib Starnes has been formally let go by the UFC for embarrassing the proud nation of Canada with his relentless backpedaling. And it wasn’t a cordial goodbye, either. Said Dana White: “He just doesn’t belong in the UFC and after his performance the other night, he should consider a new line of work.”

We’re all still scratching our heads at what exactly Starnes’s game plan was on Saturday night. As a couple commenters pointed out in our last post, there’s a report going around claiming that Starnes’s performance was boring on purpose, intended to protest the UFC’s low salaries and failure to pay medical bills; apparently, he didn’t get his broken ribs paid for after his fight with Kendall Grove. The fight with Quarry was the last on his contract, and he wanted to use it to “screw over the UFC.” To which we can only say, buddy, you think you were underpaid before UFC 83? We can’t wait until you find out what the pay’s like for smoker matches up in British Columbia.

Tell me when he's fighting at EliteXC or K1. So I'll know not to buy tickets.
ucsdmike- April 29, 2008 at 8:43 pm
He just sucks period. End of story.
JonnyBoy- April 21, 2008 at 4:35 pm
I doubt it was a protest. After the fight he was giving the crowd shit for booing him. If it was a protest then he would have just taken the criticism and said "so what, that was my plan". I think the simple explanation is that he just sucks

GSP for Prime Minister brings up a pretty interesting point.. Doubtful, but interesting to contemplate none-the-less

If the UFC failed to pay his medical bills after his ribs where broken that is crap. But I think a better route to take would have been an in depth interview. NOT embarrassing yourself in on of the biggest events to hit your home turf in years.
GSP for Prime Minister- April 21, 2008 at 3:34 am
anyone else wonder if Starnes, questioning whether the UFC would re-sign him, dropped a few thousand on the vegas betting line against himself???

think about it... "i would like to put $50,000 on Quarry by way of unanimous decision!"

you never know!!!!

You guys haven't seen the last of Starnes. This is all an elaborate tactic, you'll see!

Maybe Starnes can get a job on the roller derby circuit.

What an idiot? Doesn't this dude know there are plenty of folks who want to be in the UFC so bad, they'll give up everything to do it? He throw away a good opportunity to be a top contender. Years from now, he'll be working at a crappy job watching UFC highlights in his home telling himself what the hell was I thinking?

If there's one thing I do like about Dana, it's shit like this. lol

i think we have a new addition to the 10 most dispicable people in MMA
Bemin- April 20, 2008 at 8:27 pm
The protest story is false, it was just a TCM guy starting a troll thread on Sherdog that got out of control. In other words he has no real excuse which makes it even worse, oh well so much for his career.

AND Kalib was complaining about getting hurt in the US when he was sequestered in a house on TUF. Canadian health care won't cover you if you get hurt abroad and seek treatment abroad. If Kalib flew home from Vegas and sought emergency medical treatment in Canada he would have been fine. If he went to the hospital in Vegas he would have had to buy Blue Cross Travel Insurance or pay in cash in full - with no Canadian compensation.
cw- April 20, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Not necessarily. Health care is province to province - some cover physio, recuperation, long term care and others don't. I play rugby and we have to have several layers of health and life coverage on our players on top of what we get from the government in Ontario.
jim- April 20, 2008 at 7:54 pm
why is kalib complaining about not getting his medical bills paid for???? isnt he canadian and can take advantage of the national health care they provide???
Turd Ferguson- April 20, 2008 at 7:35 pm
It's funny, I paid to see two guys fight. Not, one try to fight and the other one back peddle all night.

I don't really care what he feels about the UFC pay or his bills not being paid. Put on a show and go out like a good fighter. If he HAD done that then he could get signed by another promotion in like a few weeks im sure.

What a douche bag.
Kim Couture is a cunt- April 20, 2008 at 7:23 pm
I'm from Langley right beside Surrey and even though I was in Montreal for the fights my buddies were all at The Shark Club and apparently the Revolution guys were there booing and yelling at the big screen.

Kalibs a fuckin joke.
Republican_Grappler- April 20, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Well...he is American Top Team and Master Liborio was not in his corner...maybe Liborio knew something about what he was going to do and didn't want anything to do with it? On the other hand...he wasn't in McCarthy's corner either and he is ATT as well...
Alex- April 20, 2008 at 7:21 pm
The protest rumour is the only explanation that makes sense. Wouldn't his corner have thrown in the towel otherwise?
Republican_Grappler- April 20, 2008 at 7:02 pm
He really showed them. Stick it to the man, Starnes! Stick it to the man!
maud- April 20, 2008 at 7:01 pm
