MMA Fighter Challenges People to Punch Him in the Face, Everyone Fails

And Now He’s Fired: Gerald Harris (Wait, What the F*ck? Seriously?)

(Remember to include "proficient in jabbing" on your resume. / Photo courtesy of UFC.com)

UFC middleweight contender Gerald Harris confirmed last night that he has been released by the UFC following his decision loss to Maiquel Falcao at UFC 123. Yes, Gerald Harris, the SportsCenter highlight-maker and all-around nice guy, who had come into the fight with a 3-0 Octagon record and two Knockout of the Night bonuses under his belt. Even considering how lackluster his fight last weekend turned out, this has to be the most unexpected UFC firing in recent memory. Is the UFC so dead-set on trimming their roster with the influx of WEC talent that they’ll bounce a rising star for one bad showing? Maybe. But get this…

It was also confirmed yesterday that despite going on a three-fight losing skid in which he never made it out of the second round, Matt Brown will get another shot in the UFC. Really. And of course so will Maiquel Falcao — who shares at least half of the blame for the Harris fight turning into a dud — as well as lightweight contender Tyson Griffin, who hasn’t won a fight in over a year. If there’s more justification to Harris getting fired (and we sincerely hope there is), we’ll let you know when it emerges. Blind speculation time: Harris had just completed the last fight of a four-fight contract, so negotiation disputes could have played a factor.

In the meantime, Gerald’s fans have started a #BringBackGeraldHarris hashtag campaign on Twitter to let the UFC know how they feel. Harris was touched by the support, but added: "If u are a fan, please be respectful in your choice of words towards @danawhite & @ufc – voice your opinion in a positive manner."

He got fired for being black on a Saturday night! He's not even as black as the back of Wesley Snipes neck- more of a mochachino or a walnutty shade.

Sometimes I wish these gents had another viable option outside of the UFC. It's too bad nobody else seems to be able to step up to the plate, you could sign with Strokefarts and get one or two fights a year if your lucky or go fight for Winnebago, Jr. and people will hear about your exploits vicariously through the golden prose of ReX13, the loyal scribe of the Bellatoranese.

Dana is the public face of a massive business, has more money in his pocket than you'll ever see in your life, and would most likely beat the piss out of you one-on-one. Maybe go talk to Fighter Relations Manager (?) Joe Silva about his choices.
MoTropolis- November 24, 2010 at 12:53 pm
Not to mention, he looks a lot like Phil Davis, and it was prolly confusing for the UFC trying to promote 2 up and comers that are hard to tell apart. UFC 123 was a showcase between the 2, to see who they would keep around. That one armed kimura Davis pulled is what really fired Harris.

@ Shane Darwin

I totally agree .. his monkey dancing bullshit is aggravating as hell to watch. He has had 2 seconds of exciting action out of every fight he has been in ... the slam of course. Other than that he has been boring as hell.
ghostboner- November 24, 2010 at 11:07 am
I'm getting "Gray (maynard) Pride tattooed on my chest. And I'm pink! So suck it racists!

@Rext13 message - Uh SentWest is just some dude on the intronet. I don't think he challenged Cort McGee.
Shane Darwin- November 24, 2010 at 10:47 am
Oh geez.

Of course there's more to the story. Why do you think he was fed first timers. Dana couldn't wait for an excuse to let him go. He's an arrogant prick.

He isnt all that exciting either. Even the Dave Branch fight was pretty boring until the slam. He showed absolutely no effort in his latest loss, and was completely outclassed in every aspect by a UFC rookie. There's nothing more pathetic than watching a one-dimensional wrestler get almost knocked out and resort to clinging to his opponent's leg like a homo (King Mo, that goes for you too). Even worse was his shuck and jive "standup", pawing at the air like a blind puppy. Harris will never be a contender, so the door can hit him on the way out for all I care.

You do remember that before his last knockout of the night was two rounds of God-awful Severns-Shamrock-esque circling, right?
El Guapo- November 24, 2010 at 9:44 am
Step into my office. "Why?" Cause you're f'kn fired!

Jesus, everyone is going off about poor Harris.

Am I the only person that suffered through that kalibesque crapfest??

Harris should have lost at the end of the first round, but even after getting 10 more minutes he still didn't do one damn thing in that fight. This fight is right up there with Nate Quarry vs Kalib Starnes or Houston Alexander vs Kimbo Slice. Falcao at least showed a few moments of greatness in the bout.
ReX13- November 24, 2010 at 8:32 am
SentWest challenged Cort too soon, and now he'll never wear his father's guns.
Sudos KFC- November 24, 2010 at 8:24 am
Complete BS that if he had tapped out to that choke or the clock hadnt fucked up he would still have a job with the UFC...

and don't you guys mean affirmative "blackaction" to quote everyone favorite racist TV father :) again...1,000,000 points for the movie reference.

cecils_pupils- November 24, 2010 at 8:11 am
SentWest has it locked

The pink slip reigns supreme as the most powerful move in MMA.
MoTropolis- November 24, 2010 at 8:08 am
Falcao is claiming Harris tapped out on 3 separate occasions during the fight. Maybe that has something to do with it, combined with the clock fuck up and Harris not really pushing for that W in the 3rd.
cagefightmon- November 24, 2010 at 8:04 am
Fuck you Dana!
Videodrome_NOW- November 24, 2010 at 7:45 am
@Bryan- Nice twist, but I'm sure old DW don't give a fuck about no affirmitive action bullshit. AA Laws are for the birds because Dana White has usurped the throne of God, apparently.
jimbonics- November 24, 2010 at 7:43 am
I like Viva's take.
BryanF- November 24, 2010 at 7:39 am
Rampage Jr will be back!
BryanF- November 24, 2010 at 7:36 am
@ Videodrome

Actually according to Affirmative Action Laws, for every 5 white guy bad performances they are legally obligated to have at least 1 bad black guy performance. Harris' turn was up, Rampage had his a few months ago.
