It’s not like we didn’t see this coming. After Phil Baroni and Antonio McKee lost their jobs, there was no way that the axe wasn’t going to drop again on UFC 125‘s other repeat-losers. Here’s the latest…

Brandon Vera: The Truth has been released from his UFC contract after his shutout decision loss to Thiago Silva, which represented Vera’s third consecutive defeat, and sixth loss in his last nine outings. Due to the nasty broken nose he suffered last weekend, Vera won’t be able to compete anywhere until March 3rd at the earliest.

Marcus Davis: The Irish Hand Grenade has also been bounced out of the Octagon. Davis’s knockout loss against Jeremy Stephens was his fifth loss in his last eight attempts, and second-straight defeat by stoppage. The TUF 2 vet was hoping to re-invent himself as a lightweight, and had controlled Stephens in the first two rounds before having his lights put out in the third. Davis is one of only eight UFC fighters who have earned five or more performance bonuses.

Instead of piling on the abuse, let’s remember Vera and Davis for the dangerous, exciting fighters they used to be before their luck abruptly ran out. Video proof is after the jump…

Vera is a douche and I will miss him getting his face wrecked every time he fights.

I always liked Davis because he came to fight no matter what and put on some awesome performances.

I vote that Davis moves toward a training spot. Even though age may be catching up to his life in the octagon, he still has amazing striking skills which he can teach outside of it. That, coupled with his overall experience, I think anyone would be lucky to learn from him.

fuck vera, davis on the other hand will be missed. The grenade just needs to explode 2-3 cans in dream or regional shows and he'll be back. It seems a little unfair since he always brings 100% to his fights.

Sad to see Davis goes.

As for Vera, considering he was robbed in the split decision against Randy Couture, I would only call that his second consecutive loss.

Like I said before: UNLIKE strikefarce UFC doesn't keep weak ass losers.
On the other hand I sure hate to say it about Marcus Davis, I use to like to watch him fight, but he has pulled a Chuck Liddell and needs to get another job. You have the chin of brain-damaged Mongolian woman.

Vera has some of the best kickboxing in the LHW division, too bad his cockiness and overall shitiness off of his back caused him to get booted out of the UFC.

When Vera came back from his contract dispute his ability to pull the trigger had mysteriously disappeared. He be standing in front of his opponent and I'd be thinking, "Go dude, do what made you famous," and he's just be standing there. Watch those old videos... he could unleash some fury. Whatever it was, he lost it.

I hate it for Davis. I've never really cared too much whether he won or lost, but if I saw his name on a fight card I felt it added to the card... because without a doubt he always brought it. He has the FotN bonus' to prove it. Shame. He's up there in years so I doubt we'll see him in the Octagon again.

I'd love to see Davis and Vera in a Strikeforce cage, but Coker and co. seems pretty serious about not taking any of UFC's "garbage" (even though they've build their brand with guys like Scott Smith, Robbie Lawler, Jorge Gurgel, and Nick Diaz).

I thought that ex-UFC fighters like Keith Jardine, Ben Saunders, Todd Duffee, Gerald Harris, and Gabriel Gonzaga would help SF round out their divisions and add familiar faces to some of their relatively shallow cards...but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Regardless, I wish Vera and Davis the best. At one time, they were two very exciting fighters.

Could never hate on Davis, that guy had the welterweight division shitting their pants for a while, and he fought the once dangerous Swick to a decision with a broken arm.

Vera VS Jardine for the fledgling OMGDangerFights LHW belt in Nicaragua or somewhere. Nobody gets paid. Fighters act surprised and start a charity to get their money back.

And they say CP is only about piling on the negativity. That was a very fair sentiment expressed to these guys, and both of these guys definitely had their moments. Too bad they haven't had many lately.
