It’s no secret that the UFC middleweight division is a bit of a mess right now. With Michael Bisping set to fight Brian Stann, Alan Belcher squaring off against Vitor Belfort, Cung Le fighting Rich Franklin and Chris Weidman and Tim Boetsch sitting on the sidelines, it’s no wonder we’re possibly looking at a middleweight tournament to sort this mess out. In theory, the tournament would give Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva plenty of time to go to barbecues and fight Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones while the division sorts itself out. In reality, that will never happen.
With the middleweight division being such a gigantic question mark, it may make sense to just ask someone in Anderson Silva’s camp who they’d like to see him fight next. There’s just one small problem: Anderson Silva’s camp are, how should I say this, pricks. Case in point, here’s what Silva’s manager Jorge Guimaraes said about the possibility of Anderson fighting Chris Weidman, Tim Boetsch and Alan Belcher, who have all recently called out “The Spider” (via Tatame):
“That’s a big joke. Everybody saw that it worked for Chael, and he got really famous with that, and now everybody wants to be on the spotlight. No opponent makes sense for Anderson at this moment*. Unless we do a catchweight against Georges St. Pierre.** They didn’t offer the fight, but he’s the only one that could do a super fight. Anderson has the biggest paycheck in the UFC, and you can’t promote an event with these amateur kids that are coming up now.***”
*Except for, you know, the winners of the fights in the first paragraph that aren’t Le vs. Franklin. Include Weidman and Boetsch on that list, too.
** So, a guy who is undefeated, has won five fights in the UFC’s middleweight division and just destroyed a consensus top middleweight doesn’t make sense, but a welterweight who has been nursing an injury, is booked to unify the UFC Welterweight Championship/Interim Championship in November and will then need time to put on weight for a middleweight fight does. Right, sure, why not? Just tell me, is Chael Sonnen the middleweight champion of this parallel universe you’ve created, or did Travis Lutter manage to knock him out?
Look, the rest of us have given up on this Silva/GSP super fight years ago. With the time it would take for GSP to put on enough weight to fight at 185 – not to mention rehab from an injury in the all-too-likely case he gets hurt in November – it’s safe to assume that ship has sailed. Silva/GSP is pretty much an MMA pipe dream, the same way that Pacquiao vs. Mayweather is one for boxing.
***Didn’t we have this exact same discussion before UFC 117? And then didn’t Chael Sonnen make himself famous by calling out Anderson Silva, like you, you know, just said seconds earlier?
Eh, I give up. If you guys in the comments section have any better ideas for Anderson Silva that don’t involve middleweights, Jon Jones or Georges St. Pierre, let us know.

Second, since the idea of future reference I made escaped you and you wish to argue past, bones and his DWI sure didn't help since he had about as big a sponsor as you can have in bud light. Silva and his clowning and temler tantrums basically killed a market. Note, even with middle east partner the ufc has NOT gone back.
But to finish my thought, going forward the sport does not need champions who pick and choose opponents like in boxing. I like dominant champions, but I like the iceman/Penn version who SEEK the best. Say what you will on sonnen, he wanted the best. He lost but at least had the balls to go after them. Liddel went to pride doing the same, Penn fought in 4 divisions doing it. Its no mistake they both fight down a weight class from their natural body size, its no mistake they refuse to fight each other, and its no mistakespider will fight down (if GSP moves up) but will not fight up.this is the exact mindset of major sports (which I quit watching) and boxing. No go back to school boy and maybe learn to argue what someone said, not what you wish they said.

I never said that I hated him, nor did I say that I want him to act like a brute so where you pulled that little bit of brilliance from is lost on me.
How spoiled we are becoming (the complaints here are laughable at best)
First off, it was "picky diva" not "pink Diva", as in trying to pick his own fights, which there is plenty of evidence of.
Secondly, I actually enjoy watching Silva fight almost more than anyone because of his fluid almost "Ali" like style. But when he tries to avoid competition that doesn't suit his style (like he did with Chael and appears to be doing with Weidman and Lombard), than it becomes frustrating because that is not the kind of tact that I believe a champion should display.
Now you can say that it was his it was his managers that said that about wanting to fight GSP(who by the way is much smaller than Silva) but if Silva didn't agree with what they were saying than he would have stepped up and said so. There job is after all to represent him.
He's not bringing down the sport CMAN, be quiet. If anything, he's gaining fans for the sport by his never ending ridiculous highlight reels. Just think about if Silva never fought in the UFC; if you think it would've been good for the UFC in the long run, then you're the opposite of smart.
SHATTERPROOF- He's not a pussy, actually he's fought everybody the UFC's put in front of him, even when he didn't want to fight them. Calling Silva a pussy makes you look like an idiot, period.

I am a huge fan of dominant champions since that is always what pushes divisions foward, and still I find myself disliking both of these champs more and more. They are bringing all the bad with them, I.e. picking out the green m&m's reference. And it is not by accident they will not fight each other.
I feel sorry for some of you cats like, joshuan29 who says "I wish Sonnen hadn't gone for that stupid backfist". The fights over bro, get out of your feelings like that in front of other grown men on this site, it doesn't look good on you.

How about all those times that you stand there and thank the fans for making it possible, that you show your apprieciation by fighting whoever the fuck we want. In the end you'll gain more respect for being a tough motherfucker, opposed to being a picky diva.
How can anyone say he is the greatest of all time without surpassing at least that yard stick?
He needs to make a title run at 205. He still has to cut weight for it, he can abandon 185 to build more mass to match the other 205 fighters if he absolutely needs to.
Look at Rory MacDonald, how is Silva ever going to be remembered if these beasts are the future of the sport who can conceivably hold titles in two divisions at the same time. Fast forward to a much more populated sport with more divisions crammed in (like boxing) and no one is going give two shits about some can crusher in a single division.
Do not see why the man is complaining about fighting someone. He has highlight reel knockout chance of 100%, and 400k+ in the bank, and he gets to put another fool in place.
