(If Dan had only faked an injury, it would have been a totally different story.)
After Nate Marquardt‘s brutal knockout of Demian Maia at UFC 102, Anderson Silva was faced with the possibility of having to rematch both Marquardt and Dan Henderson in title defenses — not exactly the fresh challenges that Silva wanted to focus on during the remaining fights of his career. Silva’s manager Ed Soares suggested that Marquardt and Henderson fight each other to establish a true #1 middleweight contender, and Dan Henderson suggested that Ed Soares get stuffed. Well, the Spider has found a solution to the middleweight contender problem, as he’s decided to undergo elbow surgery and will sit out the rest of the year.
So, unless Henderson wants to accumulate some nice ring-rust — and wait until the spring to get paid again — he’ll probably have to take the fight against Marquardt. (See? Just because Ed and Anderson speak that bizarre foreign language, it doesn’t mean they’re not clever.) If you’re Dana White, your first reaction to this elbow-surgery news is probably "Silva, you cocksucker." Your second reaction is to realize that UFC 105 still lacks a main event, and Henderson vs. Marquardt is probably as good a matchup as you’re going to get at this point.

commentsDon't forget Marquardt LOST a split decision to Leites....
Lets be honest he is crapping himself at the prospect of Marquart he has improved tenfolds since the first fight and looks bigger too Nate fucked Maia in 20 seconds and Gouveia the alleged most talented fighter a ATT pretty easily.
Silva & Soars are more interested in enhancing his record hence the reason they have fought average MW (Cote & Leites) and a glass jawed over achievers.
Fight Anderson man i know your ducking Sexyama you have been for years but Nate or Dan are no Sexyama fight them man.
Who would you want to see Silva fight?
But I would love to be in that room. Sans translater.
I do think for Silva there is not much reward to beating them again and he sees more chance for him at 205 to make a legacy for himself. I'd even love to see him fight at HW but he wouldn't be able to compete against the 265 lb class but to see him pretty much come in at his street weight and fight would be interesting. Silva vs Silva once Wanderlei's face heals.
Hendo is great, and I loved seeing him defeat Bisping but I don't see him competing at a high level for much longer. Much of that Bisping fight he looked in trouble and like he was much relying on that right hand, luckily it worked because of a terrible game plan by Bisping. I want to see Hendo keep fighting I don't think he is going to get tons worse, I see him like a Randy fighting forever.
Nate looks better and better and his last fight pretty much shows his game plan, and power. What would have happened had the fight gone longer? I guess it doesn't matter but I would have loved to see his game plan against that BJJ.
WWF style. Is this scripted or what?
I want to see GSP (the man who always talks about his legacy) fight silva
I think Soares and Silva are ducking the uneven risk v. reward of facing either fighter again.

But seriously, good. As much as I love Hendo, he's never going to beat Silva. Marquardt at least has a stylistic chance, but I'd rather see Andy fight at 205 until he retires. The remaining contracted Anderson Silva fights are worth their weight in cocaine-coated diamonds.
