Anderson Silva Superfight with Chuck Liddell at UFC 95 Looking Like a Real Possibility

Britain’s The Sun confirmed that the UFC is headed back to London for UFC 95 in February, and they’re adding weight to the rumor that it might have Anderson Silva vs. Chuck Liddell as its main event.

SunSport understands Middleweight champion Anderson Silva, 33, has been asked to appear on the card, with a potential bout with light heavyweight star Chuck Liddell already being mooted.

Dana White said Silva was “flipping out” about the negative response from fans and media types to his performance against Patrick Cote at UFC 90. Going up a weight class to pummel a former champ might be enough to silence those critics for good. The bout also has enough star power and intersecting story lines to make it a huge draw.

If it does happen, it’s a tough fight for Liddell. Even if he beats Silva, his detractors will just say it was due to the size advantage. If he loses — a real possibility against the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter — it becomes harder to ignore the call of retirement. Then again, after the loss to Rashad Evans you have to wonder how many interesting fights are left for him at 205. This could easily be his last moment in the spotlight. At least it’s a big one.

I dont want to see that fight and Chuck getting beaten again, if they want to make a super fight with the Spider get Randy down to 205 and let them two battle it out!
I think that would be a great fight and not a cat and mouse affair with the Ice Man being the mouse...

any thoughts??

W/ all due respect to Chuck, I think he will get mauled in this fight. Yes, he is a great fighter but I think his last few fights have clearly shown his weaknesses and Anderson won't play the Cote bullsh*t game and screw around. Anderson is extremely skilled & dangerous in all aspects, and Chuck seems to have problems w/ guys who use Muay Thai/leg kicks like Jardine and definitely Silva. Rashad was more speed than anything else, which Anderson has as well.

Anderson Silva should be used to fight the toughest, most exciting fights he can have, not one w/ Chuck just to get large numbers & please the UK fans b/c Chuck got hurt and had to pull out of the last UK card. Silva should fighting people like Machida, who is pretty much equal to him in skills & style, or even Forrest who would bring a standing and ground game, or Rashad depending on the outcome w/ Forrest. Or let Silva fight GSP after the Penn fight, b/c win or lose for GSP, that would also be a great stylistic matchup. And right now, Bisping is knocking on the MW door and even Maia. Let Anderson fight guys who will test his mettle; & it's not that Chuck couldn't knock him out, it's the liklihood of it happening due to his recent showings or lack thereof and Anderson's true all around game outclassing Chucks's, mostly due to Chuck having forgone using his ground and kickboxing skills for quite some time now. He shouldn't start testing them out on again on someone like Silva.

If this fight happens it was nice to know you chuck. I think we should all chip in for chuck's funeral.

So is it safe to say goodbye Chuck?

This could prove to really mess things up with the matchmaking. Let's say Silva win this match and Rashad pulls out the miracle against Forest. There aren't really any other middleweights that can claim they have the credentials to fight Silva. Silva's next fight would have to be at LHW again for fear of having another awful fight that fans don't want to see. So in that case it could potentially put Silva right at the top of the LHW food chain against-hypothetically-Rashad because there really wouldn't be any other LHW's that could say they deserve a shot at the title, unless Dana wants another promotional moment and sticks Couture in there. This fight could generally mess everything up, especially the career of Chuck Liddell.

if you have a size disadvantage and want to win against Lesnar, you need both speed (to get in and hit first) and power so that those first few shots you land do the damage needed.

"Liddel cant beat the homeboys." I'll have to check the record book on this one, but I'm not sure if I really care.

Anderson Silva versus Dana White's New Golden Boy BROCK "THE CocK" Lesnar.

I would love to see Brock get handled by a MW/LHW. Proves that size dont matter that much when it comes to fighting if you have the skills.

Liddel cant beat the homeboys.

Funk it - I bet you could line up GSP then Forrest Griffin, then Lesnar and the Spider would crush all of them in one night! Thats how good this guy is! The fight w/ Patrick A Silva was just trying to make it last for the fans - you could tell that he was controlling it throughout before the injury P.Cote incurred.

@ JAZACKED

Chuck beat Vernon White, Kevin Randleman, and Alistair Overeem
JAZACKED- November 16, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Liddell can't beat black guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fuck Chuck- November 16, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Chuck Liddell does, in no way shape or form, not deserve this fight. He has proven noting as of late he needs to fight a scrub or two surely Dana has a tomato can or two.

LOL Matte are you serious? unless the other two fights are like 92, i.e. Rampage vs Axe Murderer, Griffin vs Evans i would not pay a puddle of piss for this fight I really don't find this interesting at all, Imagine Silvas pin point accuracy and his timing for Chuck to lower the left again and its over! or he could always just take it to the ground and its over! just dosen't look good for Chuck no matter how you slice it. No interest at all! i would how ever catch the free stream online!! COME ON CP wut were the buys this weekend im really quit interested in seeing the #s

There wouldn't be a big size differential. From what I understand, Anderson Silva walks around between 215-220. The dude is able to adapt his diet to hang out around the 195-200 mark and then cuts water weight and whatever else to make 185. He's a big middleweight. Size would not be much of a factor like say in Couture-Lesnar.
Matte- November 16, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Why would they book this in England and give it away for free?

People would pay for this kind of main event attraction.
2Centz- November 16, 2008 at 6:48 pm
I think that this fight makes for a very interesting match up, although, win or lose, this could very well be the last time we see Chuck in the octagon. Chuck is coming off of a big knock out loss but you have to give the man respect where respect is due with what he has accomplished. I'm hoping for Chuck to do the impossible and knock Anderson Silva out cold.

In regards to the Fedor war, I agree with mayhem420...Fedor hasn't fought any legitimate names in years, and he's over rated. Fedor just got OWNED in a sambo match by someone you have most likely never even heard of this past weekend. If he can destroy Arlovski, then you might have a little bit to talk about, but I doubt that will happen.

anderson silva is by far the most dangerous mma fighter on the planet, but i fear the fight with chuck will NOT be the exciting fight that we saw 2 times with rich franklin.
thiago silva however would be a very exciting fight, expecially once he deals with machida.
if not him then maybe rampage.
anyhow, unless he is willing to take a run at the belt at 205, there will not be much left in the way of talent for him to fight an exciting fight for fans.
Jay Smith- November 16, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Girls, girls, quit all the bickering. The truth of the matter is, that Chuck has always, and will always be Danas boy. Dany is going to make sure he gets paid. Even if he has to fight from a wheel chair. If Tito would have sucked Danas dick a little better instead of outing him in public, he could still be in that number 1 spot. I'm sure you're all aware by now that if you say something bad about Dana or the UFC, you're put on the blacklist. When's the last time you've heard anything about Roger Huerta??? Because after his fight with Ken Flo, he was talking about money matters with the UFC in public.
I've always liked Chuck, but he doesn't deserve this fight, nor can he win it, but he is getting "the hook up" from his boy.
Silva and GSP would be the sickest fight possible.
Anonymous- November 16, 2008 at 6:43 pm
wow can't believe people think liddells not worthy of silva!? really!? a year ago he was the ufc goldenboy, just cause he lost a couple don't mean shit he's still a good fighter. i'd like to see this fight who the fuck else is their in the ufc? theres no MW contender and wandy page are the only other lhw contenders.

@Horselton McDouchery:
Wow did I hit a raw nerve?
I never said he (Fedor) wasnt skilled just pointed out that he has not fought anyone other than Timmay who was ranked in the past 4 or 5 years. I also did list his last what 7 fights.... How did I NOT bring up his career? I actually pointed that out to you.
Its not like I even brough the guy up you did... in an artical that had NOTHING to do with Fedor in the first place. Just relax and dont be afraid of the truth homie.
No need to get all cranky and bent outta shape. Take a deep breath and go take a shit or eat some fiber that might help work some thing out.
TeeReks- November 16, 2008 at 6:34 pm
and the reason he doesn't want to verse against Machida isn't because he's scared of him, it's cause they're buddies. If Machida said something about his momma Silva would certainly end his hype in a heartbeat.
Geriatric Peon- November 16, 2008 at 6:33 pm
"And you left out all of his career that supports my statement, very convenient. Your high, and your an idiot. Why don’t you quit nut hugging hippies and weed, get off your moms computer and go blow your boyfreind in her basement where you live at 34 yrs old. Thank you." ..........that sounds angry to me

.... anyway, you should really try to make a point other than calling other people names. Fedor is a powerhouse but MMA tends to be a What have you done lately type of business and until his managers allow him to fight the best he can't prove he is the best.
