Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman II Set for UFC 168 on Dec. 28; Rousey vs. Tate II Added as Co-Main Event

(Video via ESPN)

Never put too much stock in the words of a man who has just been knocked out. Anderson Silva seemed to insist to interviewer Joe Rogan immediately after getting KO’d by Chris Weidman at UFC 162 a week ago that he was not interested in a rematch.

But there was the language barrier thing and the typical Anderson Silva cryptic speech thing to take into account but perhaps more than anything — we were listening to the stream of consciousness reactions of a freshly concussed man. Maybe that’s why UFC President Dana White has spent almost every minute since insisting to the media that the mega-rematch between “The Spider” and “The All-American” would definitely happen.

And, it will. The middleweight title clash is now scheduled to take place December 28th as the main event for UFC 168. The organization’s big New Year’s Eve show will also feature the women’s UFC bantamweight title rematch between Ronda Rousey and Meisha Tate II as its co-main event.

White told Yahoo! Sports that he believes the Weidman/Silva rematch will be the biggest fight in the organization’s history. “White several times Saturday said he thought the bout would be the biggest in UFC history and said he thought it could do between 1.2 million and 1.4 million on pay-per-view,” they reported.

“The UFC does not release its pay-per-view figures, but it is believed that UFC 100, at 1.25 million, is the best-selling pay-per-view the promotion has done.”

Anderson Silva released a short taped statement to ESPN telling fans, “I back. Trust me. I back.” Of course, that was followed by a wink.

Oh, Anderson. We can’t quit you.

Oh, and to the guys saying that Andy was just keeping his hands down to stop the shot . . . That may or may not be true but what about when he doesn't do that absolutely infantile and ridiculous fake being flashed wobbly knee BS? That's how he got caught, if I remember correctly. Anderson will straight clown Weidman - if Anderson stops acting the clown.

A non-dipshit-clown Anderson Silva DESTROYS Weidman. Now, I'm not saying that's who will show up. Silva is about as stable as Chang on Community.

It's just like that scene in the movie Red Belt, where the obviously-a-Gracie fighter admits he's going to take a dive because the the real money is in the rematch

Keeping his hands up wouldn't fucking hurt, sure you drop your hands to defend take downs but jesus man silva went full " mental game" taunting and trying to avoid punches just by swaying at the hips hands down and feet planted, he got caught a few times not just the punch that dropped him. Get used to wrestling champs? Thats all there was back in the day severn, coleman, kerr, randelman and that rocky dennis fucker ben askrin still holds a belt. Weidmans base is definitly wrestling but he is at least willing to use it in more of an mma style not just wrestle fuck people, I like weidman but to think the silva will not adapt Is silly.

Anderson keeps hands up. Gets taken down and subbed. Having his hands down wasn't just him goofing around. He was looking to get under hooks and defend takedowns. Weidman is a horrible style matchup for Anderson and I think people need to get used to wrestler champions since I think that's all we're going to have from here on out.

I enjoy watching both tate and rousey fight, they're usually in exciting scraps but I would not have bought the ppv if that was the main event. I'm glad dana threw a must buy epic fight on the card. I see silva fighting a completely different fight, showing much more hespect, maybye even keeping his hands up , and getting his hand raised at the end if the night.
Hope weidman drops him again though.
