We were all a little shocked when Affliction’s impressively bloated salaries were made public following their "Banned" show last July. But the word on the street was that the super-high payouts were more of a publicity stunt than a part of the actual business model, and several fighters were reportedly asked to take pay cuts for their next Affliction appearance. Well, it looks like at least one "Day of Reckoning" fighter will be taking in considerably more bread this time around. Yahoo! Sports has the scoop:
Assuming Affliction keeps half of each $44.95 pay-per-view purchase, Arlovski would need to pull in nearly 44,500 buys himself this Saturday to justify a million-dollar salary. Tom Atencio was adamant that "Banned" drew over 100,000 buys, which is impressive for a non-UFC event, but when your total fighter payroll is over $3 million, you’re kind of effing yourself in the A, financially speaking. Plus, Donald Trump Jr. gets his cut whether Affliction turns a profit or not. And Affliction’s partners/underminers in Golden Boy have already sold 17,000 seats to the Shane Mosley vs. Antonio Margarito boxing match in L.A. on the same night as "Day of Reckoning," which should steal a lot of spectators and media attention from Affliction. And of course, many MMA fans will be saving their money for "UFC 94: St. Pierre vs. Penn 2" on January 31st.
So yeah, a million bucks sounds about right.

commentsI am tempted to take Saturday off and just drive down to Anaheim. This fight is gonna be good.
Is competition good for MMA? Yes, but in the cage, not out of it. Who is the competition for the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL? Those organizations are the best of their respective sports. The best atheletes play in those leagues and the rest want to be in those leagues because they are the at the top. And thats where the UFC wants to be.
I'm all for the lower level and local promotions, and guys working their way up to the top. But I want there to be one top organization so the fans can the the best fight the best, the dream matchups be made, and questions of who is the best get answered.
Fucking idiots.
Dana "lets try and spread 10 good fights over 8 ppv's"
Tom "lets put out the best fights we possicly can in one ppv card and pay our fighters really well"
how can you hate them?
There's no 401K's for fighters, they need to make it while they have the chance to.
Boxers make a butt load of money...why can't we have MMA superstars? Not for nothing, but Chuck Liddel should have been making 1 million a fight back when he was champ. The guy was a ridiculous draw and a superstar. UFC really F's their fighters with $$$.
Colts Neck is a good place to pick up cougars. I know this for sure. Check out Mary Annes on 537 for the best pizza around.
So yes, I see those over tanned fucks a lot. FYI, I'm also Italian, but I'm not a fucking retard like most of these Gotti wannabes.
Sooo you spend allot of time in NJ or what? lol
"Guido: Check out this fuckin' t-shirt, it's got chains and skulls on it! I'm so fuckin' badass! Gimme two Jaigerbombs down here chief! I'm in the fuckin' zone!"

I want viable competition for the UFC; it's healthy. Example A: Affliction shows up, and UFC puts on a show to counter it. We the fans get more choices and everyone wins.
If they dont like the money they make then go some place else. If there is nothing else then why blame the UFC? Its not like they caused Elite or Affliction to go under. Those orgs fucked it up all by them selves. If a fighter (Fedor) does not want to fight in the UFC cause he does not want to sign a contract then so what.
He did what was best for him and the org did or was trying to do what is best for them. Its about BOTH parties making money not just one or the other.
The reason why you see other sports stars making more is they are in a bigger market sport. How long has boxing been around? How about the NFL or NBA, MLB, NLH or even Nasscar. Give the UFC 10 more years if its still as popular then as it is now then maybe the fighters will be making more. Keep in mind that untill Zuffa took over the UFC was losing $$$ and no one was getting anything like they do now. Get over the pay scale thing, its not your paycheck so why get so pissed over it? I am sure we all have bettter things to get mad about.
probably a budget cut since arlovski's making a milli.
TV deals + sponsorship will take in a lot of money.
oh yea, i remember hearing something about that too.
i'm hoping not though. not to knock ozzy or anything, i just think that a live musical performance takes away from the quality of the event. it's an mma event, not an mma event/concert. of course, this could just be me.
I thought Ozzy was supposed to be playing this event?
A quick look at their site has no mention of Ozzy, though.
