("Pee-pee-pee" vs. "Wobble-Wobble": Who ya got!?)
Ho, baby. From a new press release sent out by Strikeforce:
ST. LOUIS (May 19, 2009) – SHOWTIME announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr., announced today that top-10 ranked heavyweight and former UFC champion
Andrei Arlovski will face unbeaten heavyweight sensation
Brett "The Grim" Rogers on Saturday, June 6 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis and LIVE on SHOWTIME. The announcement was made at a kick-off press conference for
STRIKEFORCE: Lawler vs. Shields at the Atrium at Scottrade Center. The heavyweight showdown will precede the main event fight between two of the most highly regarded fighters in the world,
"Ruthless" Robbie Lawler and
Jake Shields.
The Fight Network (via FiveOunces) passes along these additional details:
“The Pitbull,” who will be making his first appearance for the California-based Strikeforce promotion, was initially rumored to make his professional boxing debut in the aftermath of
the loss to Emelianenko. But Arlovski is now set to return to his mixed martial arts roots against the less experienced Rogers. The winner of this fight will likely go on to challenge heavyweight kingpin
[Alistair] Overeem for the title later this year.
The above report also mentioned that Rogers was originally supposed to take on Overeem at the event, but the Demolition Man had to pull out due to a hand injury. Crazy. On paper, Arlovski takes this one, obviously — but then again, Rogers’s fists are granite, and Arlovski’s chin is silly putty. We can’t wait to see what happens.
The addition of Arlovski/Rogers means that Strikeforce’s June 6th lineup is stacked as fuck. Here’s the confirmed main card that we’ll be seeing on Showtime:
182 lbs.: Robbie Lawler (16-4) vs. Jake Shields (22-4-1)
HW: Andrei Arlovski (15-6) vs. Brett Rogers (9-0)
180 lbs.: Nick Diaz (19-7) vs. Scott Smith (16-5)
WW: Phil Baroni (13-10) vs. Joe Riggs (29-10)
LHW: Kevin Randleman (17-12) vs. Mike Whitehead (23-7)

commentsThis is just a way to have Arlovski have beaten a "top-ranked" fighter for Strikeforce so they have a bad ass card in the late summer with Overeem and Arlovski headlining.
And as soon as their contracts are up guess where they are going? Oh yeah, UFC.
Judo I'm Right, again you keep proving to be a moron with a horrible pun for a handle. You know what I know, you suck.
Probobly Arlovski.
Grim, holla.
Does anyone else see the potential here for AA Vs Overeem for the Strikeforce HW title?
HUGE for Strikeforce if this comes together.
You have to give Rogers credit where its due for taking this fight. Where is Kimbo?
Will Arlovski:
A) Play it safe (yet again)
B) Attempt his Fedor gameplan again and hope it works
C) Grapple
My vote is A with a smattering of B if Rogers gasses from chasing him.
Looking forward to this one.
He just looks bada$$ and has a cool mouthguard.
He'll probably "control the ring" by acting like he is gonna throw some sort of strikes then get KTFO again. Then everyone will claim fluke.
To be honest, I'd be surprised if Strikeforce would even add this fight to the this card. They'll probably use Arlovski's name, while they can, on another card instead of blowing their wod on one Showtime event.
Anyone know if there are any rumors for NBC? So, we can actually watch their events live somehow.
CagePotato nuthuggers hahahahah.
Not sure which was more funny.
Arlovski will get a tune-up fight before he takes on Overjuiced I mean Overeem.
The cards pretty stacked and not even a PPV.
If you think this card is shitty you might want to get Dana Whites balls out of your mouth before you call someone a nuthugger.
strikeforce actually has a pretty decent roster, they're gonna end up with pretty legit WW, MW, and HW champions. it's a good start.
Arlovski has a glassjaw, so I wouldn't count Brett Pudgster out.
This card will be good so long that Diaz and Baroni gets put into a coma. I'd also like see Randleman tear someone in two.
*Best thing about this card... no women's MMA.
I don't get Showtime, and don't want to pay $20 for the next however many months just to watch StrikeForce. Most sports bars that normally show MMA events (even HDNet ones) aren't showing this.
