Now that Lyoto Machida has established himself atop one of the most competitive divisions in mixed martial arts, MMA enthusiasts are dying know exactly how the soft-spoken karateka is managing to kick everyone’s ass. And now the Dragon is generously revealing his secrets in a new DVD set from Victory Belt Publishing. Over four DVDs, Machida covers his stance and footwork, attacks and counter-attacks, takedowns and footsweeps (obviously), and his ground game. Want it? Well, feel free to buy it. Or, be one of the two winners of a new UFC pick-off contest that we’re holding over the next five weeks…
That’s right, Victory Belt has given us two copies of the DVD set to give to our readers. They will be awarded to 1) the person who can most correctly predict the outcomes of UFC 99 and the TUF 9 Finale, and 2) the person who can most correctly predict the outcome of UFC 100. To recap the scoring system:
You get one point for correctly picking the winner of a matchup. If you got that right, give yourself an additional point for correctly picking the method of victory (submission, T/KO, or decision), and/or the round in which the fight ends. So, you can score a possible three points for every matchup. Please put your picks in this format:
- Paul Kelly def. Rolando Delgado via T/KO, R2
So, step one: Spend some time crafting your picks for UFC 99. When you’re ready, go to this thread in the CagePotato forums and post ‘em. (If you’re not already a member, register here.) Entries must be in by this Friday at midnight PT. Please double-check your work before posting, because all edited posts will be disqualified to eliminate confusion.
Other rules: Only U.S. residents will be allowed to enter (sorry foreigners). You are responsible for counting up your own scores after each event. Keep track of your total for UFC 99 so that you can add it to your score for the TUF 9 Finale show; we’ll post about that next week. Basically, there will be a thread later where you can post your total score if you think you might have won, and I’ll be verifying everything, but I’m not gonna do the counting for everybody.
If you have any questions, put them in the comments section of this post and I’ll try to answer them. Please, do not post your picks in the comments section; do it here. Got it? Let’s run this!

I'm assuming no tie breaker or did you forget to mention it?

UFC 99, TUF 9 Finale, UFC 100. One of these is not like the others, one of these just doesn't belong....

Thanks, Polish. I just added this to the forum thread:"For the tie-breaker: Please indicate what you think the quickest fight will be, and how long that fight will last."

@ BM2:That's why I decided to stack #99 and the TUF 9 Finale together!
Mon, 06/08/09 - 11:37
No problem, I doubt we have a tie but I just figured I'd mention it just in case.

Dude, not to sound nerdy, but do you want me to write an excel sheet that total that shit up for you? as long as everyone sticks to the same format it's just cutting and pasting. FML I am a nerd

...sorry foreigners...you can. CP broke my heart. The fact that your gambling tips for Strikeforce were quite awful should not prevent you from keeping a high level of international prediction contest in the forum. Go back to America where the competition is easier !

@ Wyatt:We have the technology to make that happen? MY GOD THESE 1990s.If you think it's feasible, then go for it...if it works out, we can hook you up with a shirt and maybe some other DVD from Victory Belt.

You could really make this whole fight picking thing a ton easier if you just used an application like mmaplayground...

US only? C'mon Ben, i've been a faithful for awhile, using CP as my default MMA news page, laughing at your witty captions and posting nothing but severely insightful comments. I've been away for awhile...but I have been faithful. We Canadians deserve better than this. Not only do we have to wait forever for our merch purchases but we also get hammered with shipping charges. I feel as though I would surely win this contest and finally gets some compensation. Plus, Lyoto may hold some secrets of the universe and I need this knowledge to further my studies into astro physics, the space and time continuum, astral travel and human biology. I need this DVD set. Any chance you'll create another contest for the non Yankees?Than you for your time and attention to this matter.

...and now I see the whole thing about the tie breaker...

@GetUpAndKill: If you want to do a bet on the next fights, we could do it for a cagepotato t-shirt. The loser buys and ships it to the other. I'd be down for that.

CP doesn't celebrate Canada appreciation day sorry.
