Another Group Wants a Dana White Apology

(‘If I have offended any of you in any way, please line up right over there in the corner on top of that trap-door looking thing to receive your apology.’)

During Dana White’s brief apology tour following his use of the word that starts with “f” and rhymes with baguette in a recent video blog, he made two things abundantly clear: 1) he never meant to offend or attack gay people, and 2) he totally meant to offend and attack Loretta Hunt.  Amazingly, point #1 seemed to be good enough to get people to mostly forget about point #2, but now the Association for Women in Sports Media (the AWSM, if you’re nasty) is calling on White to apologize for calling Hunt a bunch of ugly words.

"This is disheartening because this behavior is unacceptable," (AWSM President) Jenni Carlson wrote. "It establishes a hostile work environment not only for Loretta but all women who cover the UFC. We cannot accept that any female sports journalist would have to work in an environment of intimidation or a hostile workplace. … It is a mystery to me that a man who is always seeking more coverage and exposure for his sport would disenfranchise some of the very people who are covering, sponsoring and watching his sport — women.”

There’s been no response from the UFC or White as of yet, but we imagine that after an intern informed him of this request from the AWSM, Dana White looked up from his buffalo chicken pizza and replied: “What have I told you guys about messing with me while I’m eating?  At least come up with something that sounds believable.  AWSM.  Like that’s a real thing.”

Seriously though, I am not optimistic about them getting that apology.  Hunt declined to say whether she thought White should apologize, so it seems like this is being pursued without her directive.

The bizarre thing is that White was so concerned about accidentally offending one group of people, but has so far shown no remorse at all for purposely offending a much larger group.  Maybe if the AWSM had jumped on this as fast as GLAAD did they’d have a better shot.  Something tells me Dana only has one apology per year in him, and he already used it.  Yushin Okami already has dibs on next year, since chances are he still won’t have a title shot by then.

You are a dumbass
Sup Hoes- April 14, 2009 at 5:37 am
Dana should tell this people to fuck off and then apologize for it.

Hey Armfarmer,

the more you talk the more idiotic you sound. You're even speaking for Dana, who I'm sure you have posters of in your room.

Let me guess, you're one of those guys that has tapout stickers on his car and wears affliction t-shirts... and spends his nights defending Dana White on the internet.

Its alright man... really, its alright.
Darkerthanyou- April 10, 2009 at 1:56 pm
I am black and I think I should get an apology and perhaps some $. Even though he never said anything bad about us.
iamdaghost- April 10, 2009 at 3:03 am
Here's an idea. If a woman or any reporter doesn't want someone to call her on an article, maybe you shouldn't print a story using only an uncorroborated anonymous source. That would be journalism 101. Websites like sherdog have been printing rumor as fact for so long that I don't think they know the difference. Dana just got tired of them not being actual journalists and called her on her BS.
Anonymous- April 9, 2009 at 7:22 pm
Fucking stupid cunts.
Dana is not legally liable for creating a hostile work environment since he does not employ you. Are you fucking stupid?
Anonymous- April 9, 2009 at 12:44 pm
"Like someone else said, Lorreta doesn't fucking work for Dana so he isn't responsible for her "work environmnet" and if she didn't want a hostile work environment maybe she should've chosen a different career."

"I guess Freedom of speech doesn't when you say the truth and people's feelings get hurt. I wish Dana would tell them to all to go to hell and leave it alone."

That's the facking truth.

@ Armbreaker:

That would definitely follow suit with Dana's other strong-handed tactics. I'd love it for him to do it out of principle. Teach one of these fucking organizations a lesson that sometimes your voice doesn't mean shit when people can see through your crap.
Dr.- April 9, 2009 at 11:29 am
It's about COMPETENCY. Dana made it a gender thing to sensitive people through foul, derogatory language.

Gender shouldn't mask one's competency. If the person sucks as a reporter, it's about their abilities. That's what Dana attacked but did it with a poor choice of verbal punctuation.

Bottom-line. Lorretta is a shitty reporter. Not a shitty female reporter.

Once you piss off even ONE woman, Dana - you're fucked. It doesn't even matter if your opinion had merit, women look past that to make it like you're attacking the ENTIRE gender.

Wrath > Reason

I agree with BackBacon Billy. Dana shouldn't issue press credentials for UFC and WEC events to female journalists. Fuck Jenni Carlson and AWSM.

Btw "God".. I hope I don't see you ever post a negative comment on here about a fighter, Dana White, or anyone else that works in the mma field. Because you know that person is just doing their job and they are someone's father/son/grandfather/uncle/brother ect. and you can't call them a name becuase how would you feel if someone said that about your father/son/grandfather/uncle/brother ect. when they were just doing their job??
armfarmer- April 9, 2009 at 10:19 am
Or we can all just be a bunch of whiney little pussies and go cry about it whenever someone calls someone else a name. You guys better stear clear of elementary schools.. I think those kids are a little too hardcore for you guys you might get your feelings hurt. Then you'll have to create a random association to protect you from the 3rd grader that called you a poopyface.. and force an apology out of him.
J-Dog- April 9, 2009 at 10:16 am
DW knows it is only important to apologize to the gays, because they are a much much much more important demographic to the UFC. Most of the women who watch are gay anyway so why waste his breath apologizing to the other women? My wife watches UFC and supposeldy she's not gay but she doesn't give me sex anymore so sometimes I wonder...
armfarmer- April 9, 2009 at 10:14 am
If my mom wrote a shitty inaccurate article that personally attacked someone, and then that someone went off on my mom for the shitty article she wrote about them that made them look like a jackass.. I wouldn't really feel obligated to hunt him down and beat his ass. I would just be like "well mom if you didn't want someone to get mad at you then you shouldn't have written an article that you knew would really piss him off". That is of course assuming my mom even brought it up, because it doesn't look like Loretta asked anyone to stand up for her. That's part of the problem here. It looks to me like Loretta doesn't really give a shit and probably expected this kind of reaction. She was probably well aware that she was going to piss of White and well aware that he would respond.. and probably doesn't really give a shit. That's the whole point, this is between Dana and Loretta and if they are both content to piss eachother off and dislike eachother then why not leave it at that.
Adseven- April 9, 2009 at 9:31 am
Who wants to start an association against the creation of ridiculous associations. Can they get any more specific. Really, an Association for women in sports media? They're probably a non profit too.
Ladies, please do us all a favor and get another hobby.
Where are the associations for MMA photographers, or an association for all the fighters' corner men. What about an association for bloggers to combat harassment and deformation from mainstream media? Anyone?

I hereby announce the "Association Against People With Nothing Fucking Better To Do".
God- April 9, 2009 at 9:30 am
I'm not talking about Dana White calling your mom a bitch for no good reason. I'm talking about your mom making a living as a writer, asking Dana white to giver her an opinion, getting blown off, and THEN being on the shit end of a tirade because she did her job.

But I'm sure you can't wrap your head around this, as Mom is probably barefoot and unemployed.
nippletwist- April 9, 2009 at 9:20 am
he didn't insult women or gay people. he insulted crappy journalism.

this awsm fucktard is a dumb bitch
armfarmer- April 9, 2009 at 9:14 am
Let me give you dumbshit arrogant snobs some advice.. make a valid point or SHUT THE FUCK UP

(fyi irrelevant and inaccurate comparisons don't count)
armfarmer- April 9, 2009 at 9:09 am
At least us "trailer park fans" are intelligent enough to be able to differentiate between someone personaly attacking a family member, and a group of people going on a warpath for someone they have never met nor have any type of relationship with at all, and from the sound of it never even had any communication with whatsoever, simply because they are the same sex. But yeah someone using someone else's situation to draw attention to themselves so that they can get people to listen to them bitch and moan.. that's totally the same as someone calling my mom a bitch.

"Hunt declined to say whether she thought White should apologize, so it seems like this is being pursued without her directive."

RED- April 9, 2009 at 9:03 am
This is how the apology needs to go:

Dana: I'm sorry...that you're bitches, maybe its time to change the tampon.
God- April 9, 2009 at 8:35 am
To answer the question, "Would it be okay if it was your mother/sister/grandma in this situation?" I believe the trailer park fans would say, "Yes." These are the same men who sleep with their cousins, after all.
PoopEye- April 9, 2009 at 7:57 am
Armfarmer, FTW!!!
armfarmer- April 9, 2009 at 7:03 am
If Loretta had been a male journalist Dana could have said all the same stuff and more and not a damn person would bring up their "hostile work environment". Unless maybe they were black or homosexual. Equality for everyone.. except white males cause nobody cares about them and we don't have paper thin skin anyway.
armfarmer- April 9, 2009 at 6:51 am
I think some of you are confused. Most of us here aren't defending what Dana did. His outburst was not a smart move for several reasons I think most of us agree on that. The problem we have is that he's catching a lot of heat for the wrong reasons. If you want to give Dana crap for what he did, it should be because it wasn't a smart business move and it was a little immature. Not because he was insensitive to women because he wasn't, he was being offensive to A woman not all women. Anyone above a 3rd grader's intelligence that isn't up their own ass with this political correctness garbage can see that.

"Does he think people aren't allowed to right unfavorable articles about him or his business?"

Do you think people aren't aloud to get pissed off when someone WRITES an unfavorable article about them? Equality and freedom work both ways.. Do you think you have the freedom and the right to call me an asshole but for some reason I shouldn't have the freedom or the right to tell you to go fuck yourself in response? Same thing. She can say what she wants, but she has to be willing to take his response. That's equality.
