Anthony Johnson Injured; Rick Story Steps Up to Face Nate Marquardt at ‘UFC on Versus 4′

(Get used to this mug. Props:

Anthony Johnson was slated to welcome Nate Marquardt to the welterweight division at this month’s UFC Live event (June 26th in Pittsburgh), but due to a rotator cuff injury suffered in training, ‘Rumble’ won’t be able to make that date. Coming in on short-notice against Marquardt will be rising welterweight star Rick Story, who was in action just last weekend at UFC 130, picking up his sixth-consecutive win against Thiago Alves.

It’s a gamble for Story, but taking out a longtime middleweight contender like Marquardt would earn the Washington native even more respect in the crowded contender pool at 170. Will Story be able to use his wrestling to stifle Marquardt in the same way that Chael Sonnen did at UFC 109, or is Nate going to put the welterweight division on notice, starting with Rick?

The current lineup of UFC Live: Marquardt vs. Story (aka ‘UFC on Versus 4′) is after the jump…

Main Card
Nate Marquardt vs. Rick Story
Cheick Kongo vs. Pat Barry
Martin Kampmann vs. John Howard
Matt Mitrione vs. Christian Morecraft

Preliminary card
Tyson Griffin vs. Manvel Gamburyan
Joe Stevenson vs. Javier Vazquez
Joe Lauzon vs. Curt Warburton
Matt Brown vs. Rich Attonito
Charlie Brenneman vs. TJ Grant
Nik Lentz vs. Charles Oliveira
Ricardo Lamas vs. Matt Grice
Michael Johnson vs. Edward Faaloloto

The under card has better fights than the main card.

Like most things, I'm not sold until I see it. I think Marquardt has the potential to look and perform like James Irvin when he cut to middleweight.

@RwilsonR - STILL wrong. Rumble walks around at 230! So he a heavyweight. Dats crazy.

i doubt it his diet. i am sure he doesn't take orals but injects.
mDino- June 3, 2011 at 9:20 am
haha yeah exactly!
Payday- June 3, 2011 at 9:07 am
@mDino - would that be the same...ahem..."diet" that Shane Carwin is or isn't using now?

War Story! Best nickname in MMA.
mDino- June 3, 2011 at 8:56 am
if nate straightens up his "diet" im sure he will make 170 no problem
RwilsonR- June 3, 2011 at 8:55 am
You are all wrong - Rick Story is a Welterweight, Nate Marquardt will be making his Welterweight debut, and Anthony Johnson is a Light Heavyweight who can occasionally cut down somewhere in the middleweight range, but still gets to fight Welterweights.

i thought that too but someone on here pointed out that he walks around in the 190's. johnson cuts way more than that. i still think it will be hard considering that he has little body fat at 185. wonder what his cardio will be like.
btw. @rear naked spoon nice.
haus66- June 3, 2011 at 8:28 am
I still have no clue how Nate Marquardt is going to make the cut to 170. He was gigantic at middleweight! The only way he makes weight is if he cuts off a limb.
GILL-uh-TEEN- June 3, 2011 at 7:52 am
as shit. I meant to type welterweights... I can't be right today. Isn't Miguel Torrez a heavyweight?
ExpectJesusBro- June 3, 2011 at 7:20 am

lol. Just fuckin with ya!
TellaTruth- June 3, 2011 at 7:20 am
"crowded contender pool at 170" ??? What? Just crowded class of fighters. I don't see anyone breaking out or being established.
bgoldstein- June 3, 2011 at 7:03 am
@ExpectJesusBro : Ugh, sorry guys, I mistyped. Yes, obviously Nate would be putting the welterweight division on notice...
Sloppyspray- June 3, 2011 at 6:56 am
I hope marquardt ktfo's him. His fight with Alves was another example of why we need pride scoring and a showing that judges could careless if u stuff a take down b/c 1 successful take down (where the other fighter stands up immediately, and u do no damage) is better than 10 stuffed attempts.

Does anybody else think that this card is stacked with better fights than 130 and 131? And i wouldn't be shocked if Barry snaps Kongo's twig legs in half with those thunderous kicks.
rogerw- June 3, 2011 at 6:30 am
I think it's not a gamble at all for Story. If he loses, he's still young and has lots of time to claw his way back to contender status and if he wins it's a big boost to his status. Reward>>>>>>risk.
ExpectJesusBro- June 3, 2011 at 6:22 am
sorry, stupid caps lock.

no you're still wrong. Keep trying...
GILL-uh-TEEN- June 3, 2011 at 6:10 am
oops... wrong... they are all middleweights...
GILL-uh-TEEN- June 3, 2011 at 6:09 am

Rick Story is a Welterweight.
Nate Marquardt is a Middleweight.
Anthony Johnson is a Middleweight.

The article implies that Story will go up in weight to fight Marquardt.
