Attn. ESPN: Soccer Players Pulling Each Others' Hair ≠ MMA

Womens Soccer Ponytail Takedown - Watch more Funny Videos

Just when you think ESPN is beginning to get a handle on this MMA stuff, it becomes clear that some of their on-air talent simply equate it with over-the-top violence.  University of New Mexico soccer player Elisabeth Lambert is, just for the record, obviously not to be trifled with, but just because she punches, elbows, kicks, and pulls the hair of opposing players from the BYU squad, that does not make her an MMA fighter.  It just makes her the kind of girl we’d love to party with.

Since ESPN seems as if they need some help distinguishing between general acts of violence and the sport of mixed martial arts, we thought we’d go ahead and offer a brief tutorial…

Hahaha, I was actually watching that and shook my head when I heard it.

punks -2 supermarket security +10 exept for the little scared and 1st sec guard

I wouldn't mind pulling that girl's ponytail. Not in a hateful, disrespectful way, but more in a ... well not in a hateful way, anyway.

Soo... how's about those weigh-in's huh?

I wonder how the Miller/Shields stare down went...

The only thing more queer than soccer is women's soccer!

soccer what is soccer ? It's football ! foot & ball. The game with monkeys playing with the hands for something like 99% off the time I call Monckeychecker.

well now we know which girl on the field is on their period.

In the guys defense all that running did sort of look like a Machida fight.

@BackbaconBilly

Soccer is for queers? Something tells me you wouldn't have the guts to say that to even one Russian football hooligan, much less a mob of one-hundred of them.

You do understand that there are tens of thousands of hools across Europe who are seasoned street brawlers, right? They're about as far from homosexuals as you can get.

I guess asking the mainstream media to pull their collective heads out of their asses before opening their mouths is asking a bit too much.

Even Gilbert Yvel thinks she plays dirty

@busted_cranium

LOL! Exactly.

Another fine post, bro. Keep up the good work.

This is horrible, I work at UNM and there has been quite a lot of controversy this year. First the football coach punches an assistant and now this crazy soccer player loses her shit! I was pretty shocked to see this on my favorite MMA site.

@knee_strike

You're right about soccer not being for pussies. But can we at least agree that basketball is for pussies?

@K.E.G.

I wouldn't go that far. I think basketball is just for men with very small testicles. Now tetherball, that's for pussies.

at least they mentioned MMA my cablebox doesn't even have MMA in my Sports search categories, horse racing, fishing and motorsports no MMA.

Damn!!! Those mormon chicks from BYU really need to get laid.

@knee_strike

LOL... let me guess, you play soccer? take a breather and calm down for fucks sake, stop being mortally insulted! There are thousands of English,Polish,Scottish Hooligans as well where I live, who gives a shit! their the ones who make the sport look bad to begin with. Not too many single soccer hooligans would start bullshit on their own with any other groups of people either, so your point is moot at best.

Now, who ya got in the Fedor vs Rogers fight? after all that Russian luv ya better have Fedor, cause I know I do,lol

Anyone thing CP might be being a bit sensitive here?

He said "has some MMA qualities to it". If she would have tackled her and he said "has some football (american...) qualities to it", should all football fans be offended and say "hey, that's not football!".

I don't think it was a literal comparison (even though that broadcaster may very well look down on MMA) and I think I'd let that one slide...

@K.E.G.

LOL! Yes, absolutely.

I think one of the main reasons MMA is becoming popular is because it's an alternative to sports like basketball.

@BackbaconBilly

Fair enough.

I've got Fedor in tomorrow night's fight. I think Rogers has a relatively good chance of at least making it a contest, but Fedor shall prevail. The guy is just too damned awesome.

@Meister574

BYU won the match, didn't they? Their players don't "need to get laid," the UNM players need to come out of the closet!

And Mormon women have plenty of sex, they just wait until they're married to do so. Do you realize how many kids there are in the average Mormon family?

I love haiku's

the mma comments were made as a joke/reference for violence(yes violence is funny) .... stop acting like the over reactive douchebag know it alls that annoy every decent person on mma forums and jtv

Soccer is boring as fuck and dumb. So is Baseball. Basketball, Hockey, Football all require more skill than those and are more exciting. MMA tops every one of them too.

@831 Son - I totally agree that Soccer is boring as fuck. But it requires more skill than football at least. Only a few positions in football actually take skill. Hockey and Basketball both require a tremendous amount of skill to make the pros though.

Cage potato needs to top crying about this kind of stuff, you dont see NFL fans crying when people call the CFL football.

Elizabeth Lambert would end up winning this game by split decision. Both Marcos Rosales and Nelson Hamilton scored the match 29-28 for Lambert while Cecil Peoples saw the bout 29-28 for Paine, later citing that leg kicks don't finish fights.
