Axe-Wound of the Day: Miguel Torres

Yeah, that's a bad one. In the co-main event of WEC 47 on Saturday, Joseph Benavidez struck a gusher on Miguel Torres's forehead before finishing him with a guillotine choke in the second round. Now, the former bantamweight champ will have a very prominent scar to remind him of the ugly loss. So what happened? Is Torres slipping, or was he undefeated for so long just because he never faced opponents as dangerous as Benavidez and Brian Bowles? Your thoughts, please.
A photo of the stitched up aftermath is after the jump...

CP, I think the pictures should be switched around. Especially for us ones who look at CP at work.
Gruesome pick either way. Sucks that he lost.
Robocop Didnt Tap Says:
Maybe it's me, but it seems like Torres has been doing just as much partying as fighting over the last year. It seems like everytime I see afterparty pics, there's Torres...drunk and acting crazy.
That said...nice forehead vagina!
Viva Hate Says:
No career in modeling but acting could be in his future, a lead in Frankenstein with that forehead shot seems about right to me.
fightfan Says:
I cant believe how fast he tapped. Not saying I wouldnt of, but I'm no bad ass like him. I hear he rarely gets tapped in practice. I guess he really needs to get away from ALL "yes men" and have some LWs and WWs beating his ass daily and subbing the shit outta him.
That is why the sport is so great. It is evolving so fast. A couple of years ago, there was no one on his level. But at the rate at which people are training and gettign better, Torres is still bad ass, but now is just one of MANY, many bad asses
rearnakedchicke... Says:
Yeah, I thought he tapped quicky too, but realizing your skull is about to pop out of a massive gash in your forehead will do that to anyone.
thekid Says:
That white stuff is his skull by the way lol
dannsd Says:
apparently I can't read
shitbag Says:
WOW
That is the most perfect Goat's Vagina ever!
Congrats Miguel!!!
G Funk Says:
I never understood all the hype behind this guy. I mean two fights ago people were talking bout him being top P4P! LOL. On top of that, not too long ago he was believing the hype. Remember when he said that he wanted better competition and was going to bypass 145 and go straight to UFC's 155! LMFAO!
Almost like Urine Faber, these guys never fought great opponents and an undefeated record is what you get in return. At least Urine showed/shown cool athletic styles, this bean always looked like, well a weak beanstalk. Never was impressed or liked the guy...
shitbag Says:
Hey G Funk,
Why don't you get in the cage? Miguel may not be as good as advertised, but you're an idiot. 'Urine'? You're a fucking joke. The worst fighter to ever step in the cage in the WEC would rape you like a 2 dollar whore.
Lysol Says:
^^Um, dipshit, you're talking about him like he's fucking Bobby Lashley. He's been fighting Top 10 guys in his weight class ever since his run in the WEC. It's not like he lost to some gatekeeper, either, he lost to another Top 10 opponent. Give the guy a little credit.
Bowles beat him on a fluke knockout, plain and simple. He was too conservative in his fight with Benavidez, as are most guys coming off of KO losses. Either way, both losses came to the best fighters the WEC could throw at him. You're talking like the WEC brought in some joker with a 10-6 record to pad his record.
Lysol Says:
^^ The dipshit comment was directed at G Funk, by the way.
budsellers Says:
from a career standpoint, if miguel had taken a year or so to build up his body for a potential move up to the ufc 155 division, it would have been a better career move than taking the bowles fight last summer. considering how quickly diego was given a title shot, torres would probably be fighting bj penn at ferrari world in abu dhabi next month. plus, the payday would have been much better than both of those losses were for him(or for his promotion).
Professor Choas Says:
bowles v torres rematch would be good both of them will need a while to heal up tho
paskhl Says:
Never been impressed by Faber! The guy fought a whole 5 round with both his hands broke(1 broke, and the other all fucked up).
If this guy doesn't "impressed"you,who does?The guy's a machine.
He had as much energy at the end of the fight, that he had in the beginning.
The guy is on the top of the game!Yes,he lost twice to the same guy;
so what! They are all (most of em)world class athlete. And you know what;shit happen!Faber will get his belt back for sure,he's too good.
Anyway, you wrote so much shit in there that I don't know why I responded to it.
That was in response to G Funk
ReX13 Says:
....and that was when G-Funk realized that no one liked him and his mommy dressed him funny.
danomite Says:
ahhh....G funk, where rhythm is life and life is rhythm. Except in this case, where it's a 300 lb racist keyboard warrior with acne.
That picture was disgusting by the way. I thought usually you guys put up warnings when you are gonna show gross shit like that. Showing a guy's skull would warrant such a warning in my opinion.
Gogo Platypus Says:
I think you have to give Benevidez a lot of credit for having a solid game plan and executing it nicely. It seemed pretty obvious that Miguel Torres was too timid and conservative beginning the fight and Benevidez took great advantage. Torres is the better fighter, but he wasn't Sat. I can't wait to see him and Bowles come back.
And the bantamweight division is now more exciting with more top-level names in the mix.
Also screw you G Funk. No one wants to hear your moronic racist bullshit.
JamesToneysContract Says:
Damn, I said to my buddy when that elbow connected that it looked like Benavidez almost put his elbow into Torres' skull. I didn't think at the time he actually F'ing had!
jizzninja Says:
Torres just got fkd up people look too deep into it. Its a fight he got jacked up period. Yeah he's a good fight top p4@ prolly not but he's no can. But franken mullet would be and awesome movie

ahhh....G funk, where rhythm is life and life is rhythm.
+1
EzMoNeY Says:
competing in the featherweight division is basically like playing Russian roulet, you might get on a winning streak for awhile, but eventually your gonna get scarfaced like that, the division is to deep+improving to ever permanently dominated.
ghostboner Says:
What Rex said.
MMAINMYBLOOD Says:
I think its time for the Mullet to go guys. He needs to change his hair style a bit. Other than that hes good. He just got cut up. Its a fight, shit happens in fights. He will be back.
scott281289 Says:
I wish he would do us all a favour and pull that vagina off his head... lol
scott281289 Says:
oj i love miguel..
Carl Sagan Says:
Racist fail, G Funk. Miguel and Bowels will be back. 1 year from now we'll be glad they lost!
Jubbie Says:
Somehow I'd rather see his skull than that sick stitching.
I think he would've been better off fighting a can than Benavidez to build some confidence. It might take a while but I'm sure he'll get back to where he was. Kudos to Benavidez, the timing on that shot to get him down was sweet.
The Flying Canadian Says:
Harry Potter
Lorenzoe553 Says:
harry potters a bitch that got cut by a stick. torres is the man. just got fucked up in his last couple fights. he'll definitely be back.
