Belfort vs. Okami at UFC 122 to Decide Next Middleweight Title Contender

Last week, Vitor Belfort let us all know that instead of expecting a title shot if he defeats Yushin Okami at UFC 122, he expect[s] Jesus, bro, every day. Well, it seems that the Lord has rewarded Belfort’s devotion. The UFC’s Marshall Zelaznik confirmed today that the Belfort/Okami main event in Germany will determine the next challenger to Anderson Silva‘s middleweight belt. "Both Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami are one win away from a shot at the UFC middleweight title and are coming to Germany with a great deal to win and lose,” Zelaznik said.

Now, we all know that the UFC 122 main event has been upgraded to an official title eliminator because Chael Sonnen pissed hot and will be suspended for up to a year. Obviously, that wasn’t mentioned in the announcement. At some point, the UFC is going to have to make some kind of public statement on the fact that their Fight of the Night-winning former #1 contender won’t be around for a while, and won’t be getting that immediate title rematch that Dana White told everyone about. But for now, promoting Belfort vs. Okami is a more pressing issue, I guess.

As for Belfort, he’s just living proof that if you put your faith in God, you’ll experience miracles. I mean, the dude who said Lance Armstrong gave himself cancer by taking steroids failed a freakin’ steroid test the next month? Honestly, who saw that coming?

Why did I just get deja-vu when I read this? Oh I know, cuz they've both been promised title shots before but Vitor got hurt & Okami got bumped cuz he's boring as fuck (but still a pretty good fighter). I'm taking Vitor by KO rd 2.

so now they're saying it wasn't a "natural" steroid, just the old fashioned synthetic kind.

Oh agentsmith...awesome idea. That shit would be perfect.

What's up fellas? It's justfappin back in action after a long layoff. Switched more internet access at work....mad pouty :(..... Anywho...I wish they would just let Vitor fight Anderson now. This will still be entertaining though...with Okami's improved striking and Vitor looking like a real mw. I don't think that he will get pushed around or blanketed like he did at lhw. As far as Chael goes......really bro? You drown a city in your shittalking....look kinda scrappy for four rounds...and then get your kryptonite thrown at you to finish you Silva might possibly have been injured, and you destroy all the positive before the fight even started? Oh Kurtis Blow says.....THOSE ARE THE BREAKS!

@ agentsmith - I know... but it was funnier to ignore those stoppages. Plus, a few of them like the upkick in the first Alves fight, or the Carneiro gassing hard and looking for a way out, were stoppages in spite of Fitch's best efforts to take them to a decision.

@ ArmFarmer - "...and facing Jake Shields is dangerous striker, Jon Fitch, whose deadly hands have won him an impressive 13 career wins in the Octagon, with zero finishes."

If Yushin"steal your thunder" Okami does what I think he will do in this fight, I could see him winning and then losing to Silva in an equally boring match.
This was Jesus giving Joe Silva and Dana White another chance to make it right, to bring forth a truly compelling fight with Silva v. Belfort for the strap.

Let's see how this #1 contender fight goes, but if Belfort loses I can't see him getting a shot against A. Silva for the MW title, Silva will prbably be gone from MW in the next two fights.
I really hope Belfort takes it, but Okami blankets guys and Belfort tends to call it in if he falls behind on the scorecards.

I have to say Chael made my Sunday after the fuckin cowboys lost. I'm glad the tables turned on his politician ass. Think about would this all play out if Sonnen did finish the round and took the title? It would be a big show! But I do think its worse to take PEDS and still lose! What an idiot?!

If I was Belfort I'd be a bit jaded. Wasn't the winner of Franklin vs Belfort set for a title shot (which Belfort won)?

Anywho, Belfort is most likely gonna walk through Okami...
BrutusBox- September 20, 2010 at 1:58 pm
why are they both facing the same way, it looks like their the double dragon bros. getting ready to finish level 2.
agentsmith- September 20, 2010 at 1:23 pm
@ RwilsonR:

It seems hard to remember (or imagine) now, but Fitch actually finished 4 of his first 6 UFC fights... 3 subs and one TKO over Thiago Alves. That was 8 fights ago though, so yeah...

Somebody photochop a turntable and headphones on Okami.
ArmFarmer- September 20, 2010 at 12:58 pm
Wonder if they are still going to market him as "striker Okami".. I shook my head every time they played the ads for Okami vs Munoz... I guess if two wrestlers are fighting and one of them is ok at striking he suddenly becomes "striker (insert name of wrestler)"
Stak40- September 20, 2010 at 12:57 pm
Man this shit is fucking HILARIOUS! I had a horrible start to my Monday morning until I got to work and saw the (former) CP/Peoples Champ pissed hot!
danomite- September 20, 2010 at 12:47 pm
you know what would be really cool of jesus to do? give Chael ball cancer.
Dante- September 20, 2010 at 12:47 pm
Okami looks like an Asian serial killer.
